I stumbled on East of Main a couple of weeks ago. I was totally surprised and delighted by the menu, service and utter charm of the space. It is also a treat because the music was such that one could actually have a conversation. Even tho' it's not quite around the corner for me, I will be going back again... More

I would have never realized that there was a hidden street in Vancouver. On that street is this hidden gem. This restaurant is small but a great place to go for lunch. The menu is simple with really great food. The service is priceless the owner came by to make sure we were enjoying ourselves.

East of Main is our go-to place for meeting friends for dinner. It's one of the quieter places in Strathcona, cozy enough to allow for good conversation. The menu is inspired by traditional Catalan tapas (personally one of our favourite world cuisines), with tortas and patatas bravas prominently featured. Everything we've had there is delicious. The wine list features a... More

East of Main offers tasty tapas, sharing plates, and more substantial entrées. Three of us dined very well on: Zucchini slices with a tapenade made with green Manzanillo olives, parmesan and pistachios Eggplant with a crunchy currant couscous and spiced with earthy paprika and cinnamon Chickpea and kale salad dressed with feta, chopped walnuts, roasted red peppers and garlic Hot... I've been for lunch twice and dinner once. Always excellent. Food is delicious with some conventional dishes and some for those who want to try something new and different. I have introduced six others to this place and all have been back since. My son and daughter-in-law say it's their new fave. The next best thing about this place is... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.
