I order oysters and beef tartare. oysters were ok but the beef tartar was a disaster. The taste was weird with a lot of vinegar as if they wanted to camouflage the smell of the meat. Very small portion for price plus they served on a toast but the bread was all wet and smoochy. NOT GOOD AT ALL. Only... More

Oysters are always a draw, as is a patio in the summer. We came here on the recommendation of a friend to eat oysters and appetizers on a warm summer evening and waited and waited and waited for our oysters (nearly a full hour)! While we ordered other appetizers, those were slow to come (2 arrived BEFORE our wine) and... More

I like oysters, so when a friend booked this place to celebrate his birthday, I was excited. We were a group of ten people. I had sweet tea which was actually really good. I ordered a half dozen oysters, tagliatelle with prawns and strawberry panna cotta - I didn't go for the set menu because to me it makes no... More

Went for an early dinner & by the time we left, the place was packed. Great vibe, very friendly and attentive service. Decent wine list, and the food was excellent. They offer 3 set price menus, ranging from $34 for 3 courses, to $42 for 4 courses, which is pretty good value (may need to pay a few extra dollars... More

I usually go to merchants for the oysters but today we tried it for bunch. The pasta was delicious! You need to be in the mood for savory tho, so fair warning.

Went on a Monday night and had the three course menu, snack, appetizer and main for $36. Menu had a lot of variety and everything was delicious, tuna tartare and Sockeye Salmon were the standouts but everything was presented beautifully and tasted great. If you order just a main you might think the portions are small but as a 3... More

I like the food menu and oysters...so fresh and unique. Small portion but good quality. Love the surrounding on Commercial Drive. Hidden gem for sure!

My youngest daughter Erin invited me here and we both knew we made a mistake as soon as we arrived. We went for lunch, Erin knows I love oysters and wanted to check the place out. It was very small, bar to the left and a few tables opposite with a pony wall separating the 2 spaces. There was only... More

It was obvious the owner/operator takes tremendous pride in his menu and service. Definitely a place for oyster and seafood specialty lovers. However, one of the few non seafood dishes was the 'Merch' burger. This was my choice and It truly was delicious. The couple of pasta dishes were smaller than normal portions. The wine by the glass was expensive... More

We arrived on a Wednesday evening, without a reservation. I gave the waitress my list of foods I can't eat (gluten, rice, soy, dairy, eggs, nuts, beans, tomatoes, mustard) and the chef made the best meal we've had in ... probably since the last time we visited a year ago! Nicely rare, thin-sliced tuna on smoked mashed potatoes with a... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighborhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
