The food and drinks in this friendly restaurant are very good indeed. Delicious cocktails, perfect jerk chicken skewers, very good curry goat, flavourful fishcakes, good rice 'n' peas, tasty hot sauce on the table. The service was a little too hurried, we felt rushed - at one point a server tried to take a cocktail that wasn't finished. That marred... More

After being on a cruise for 7 days.. and touring. You palate desire some home cook food, so Calabash Bistro was found and my palate desire was fulfilled. I got the brunch menu of the oxtail bowl which include rice and peas and plaintains. Yummy in my tummy, my friends got jerk chicken and so they raved so much about... More

This review is to notify and encourage the owner of Calabash Bistro rather than to offend. Calabash was my second attempt to find an authentic Caribbean Restaurant in BC and my second failure to do so. My niece and I visited and was displeased with the taste of the food and drinks. As West Indians we know what our cuisine... More

For people from Trini the roti is not busup but plain roti and not dahlporri as on the menu. Disappointing. 'Doubles' are interesting but not like the ones we bought on the way home from school. The draught was warm and probably will not go back. This is not even close to the food from Trinidad including the flavours or... More

We went to Calabash,a cute little Caribbean restaurant, for brunch. We tried the Rise and Shine Roti, which was Jerk scrambled eggs, roasted cumin potatoes, tomato & garlic choka, coconut rundown hollandaise served on an open roti of jerk pork belly; the Caribbean Crab Cakes served with two poached eggs, coconut rundown hollandaise, roasted cumin potatoes, and mixed greens; the... Awesome fantastic restaurant, food, drinks, service. We often miss the caribbean when in Vancouver, its people, its food, its vibe. Calabash makes a good attempt at consoling us when we do, but Calabash goes further: it serves great authentic and original food and drinks, and an incredible rum and cocktail selection. The overall experience can easily compete with the great... More

I was a part of a large party and we all were disappointed in the service and the food. It was bland. The oxtails were not seasoned. The jerk chicken had no jerk in it! It was very disappointing. The music area and bar that is located on another level is the best part of this place.

We ate here with two other couples. All of us liked it and would visit again. To be honest our server was a bit lax, seemed to be wandering around when we most needed her. The menu was extensive and it was hard to decide. The most popular dishes at our table were the chicken Roti, which were like giant... More

It is small and the décor is very Jamaican and Caribbean but, very nice servers and great rum drinks. Nothing fancy but very good food and service.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.
