The salmon and tuna sashimi were so fresh, they melted in my mouth. The rolls were all tasty and the use of whole wheat rice added a bit of extra "bite" to the texture. Tea was lovely. Service was quick and friendly. My only complaint is that its very small so we were all a bit squished at our table.... More

Planned to dine at this restaurant prior to my visit to Vancouver and it did not disappoint! Organic, delicious brown rice, gluten free and vegan options... Not to miss if you love sushi and want to experience the best in Vancouver. Try Geisha Girls roll... Vegan and fabulously delicious!

I visited here recently on a trip. It is a unique menu and some eclectic sushi choices. There is a healthy orientation to the sushi. The wait was longer than expected but the service efficient and quick. Food tasted good. I would say for the price the portions were small. It is a small place but a unique healthy sushi... More

Looked for a low key place for dinner. Got there at 9:15, had a 10 minute wait (place is really small). I was afraid it would be a rushed dinner, but the food was so good I didn't notice. The brown rice was every bit as good as the reviews said, the beef teriyaki was outstanding!

Normally at sushi restaurant you rave about the fish but in the case of shizen the rice was out if this world as well as the fish. Combined with terrific service and very reasonable prices our family gives shizen the highest recommendation.

I just love Japanese food. This place rocks. The food is prepared with care and the restaurant is organic. Plus, brown rice. The place is small, so plan accordingly.

This is a small restaurant, less than thirty covers, that does slightly offbeat sushi. There is very little sushi or sashimi. They do plenty of rolls and vegetarian options. They specialise in using brown rice.

A day trip to Vancouver meant an opportunity to enjoy Asian food ! Following Cocktails at the Sheraton Wall Centre Libby Bar, we walked across the street to the Shizen Ya, a small space with seating for about 30 people. The menu was generous with different Japanese plates, and service was fast. We both enjoyed the Chicken Breast Combo with accompaniments... More

Shizen Ya on Hornby is a very small restaurant but with some very nice food at a reasonable price. We had mixed Shashimi (marvelous), Beef Teriyaki and Tempura. The last two were OK. The restaurant caters for Vegetarians as well. Prices are modest by Vancouver standards.

Some of the best sushi I have ever had. The place was packed even at 4pm on Sunday afternoon. The tuna was "melt in your mouth" tender. I had the Tuna Tataki Sashimi and my wife had the Mango California Roll, both of which were good, but the simple Spicy Tuna Roll was fantastic (and cheap). The Tuna Avocado Roll... More

Staying in Granville Street

Neighborhood Profile
Granville Street
Granville Street spans many, multiple city blocks and has become so fastidiously known for its nightclubs and watering holes that it's fondly nicknamed the city's 'Entertainment District.' Friday and Saturday nights are the most popular and lively, with young revelers taking to the streets in droves and keeping the party going until late. Granville Street, being mostly open to pedestrian-only traffic, has a healthy social life along its main thoroughfares, even outside of its cafes and pubs, spilling onto the sidewalks. The locals are chatty, the shops at its expansive Pacific Centre Mall are trendy, and the whole area seems to be on a sugar rush: in a good way. Exuberance and camaraderie classify this neighbourhood.
