New ownership and still great dishes

Heard from friends that our old fav Chinese restaurant was under new owners recently. Decided to try it just this Summer. Ordered 3 dishes for the three of us. Had the Braised Rock Cod Slices with Bean Curd and Pork Juliennes; Fried Rice Noodle with Beef Slices and Bean sprouts; Gai Lan veggie with... read more

Really disappointed, the wonton soup was awful, it was fish broth. Tried a spoonful and that was all we could eat. The chicken chow mein was bland and tasteless. Another dish not eaten. And the beef and broccoli was mushy and the meat was questionable. Not eaten. The last time we came here it was awful and we thought we... More

This is the original location, with others in Richmond, two in Vancouver(1 in China Town) and one in Coquitlam . Have been patronizing them for well over 25 years. I've tried them all but the New West location is our favorite. They have done a reboot on the menu in recent times and a reno of sorts at this location.... More

Have eaten at this restaurant for over a decade and drove from North Surrey just for their wonton soup which was superb. The broth was very flavourful and the wontons were perfectly moist and a great balance between the minced pork and shrimp. Now, the wontons are too dense and the broth has an excess of fish sauce that dominates the chicken... Hmmm, not sure what all the fuss is about. Hon's is supposedly a go-to place in New West but I didn't find the meal, service or atmosphere all that good. Most disappointing was the food. The meat and shrimp dumpling soup didn't have a good broth and the pork meat wasn't nice. The seafood chow mein had far too much... More

Pretty much your average Cantonese diner. Food isn't stellar but it isn't expensive either. Went with a friend who goes to this location fairly frequently. Char siu - order it "half lean fat". It doesn't look that good (steamed for reheat?) but it was tender and very tasty. As promised, half was lean and half was fatty. They apparently tend... More

When we saw the windows papered over several months ago we were lamenting "was it possible that someone else is going to over this spot". Alas, they were updating and now we have the best Pot Stickers in the lower mainland right in our humble town. If you haven't been to Hon's, make sure you make the trip soon and... More

Huge portions, good food, however we try not to eat there too often because they use msg. Before I didn't care about that and we ate there weekly. Very cheap for what you get. If you're not fancy about msg it's a great place to eat.

Hon's is a favourite in New West for Chinese food and is always busy. It's a different kind of Chinese food though... not the common sweet and sour pork with chicken chow mein kind of place, which is what I prefer. Many others would prefer Hon's food. I found the food here to be fresh but a bit bland, although... More

Right on the main street, but there is parking at the rear. The restaurant was almost empty when we came in, but full and overflowing by the time we left. Service was excellent. We chose their famous pot stickers -- so tender and tasty! Also house Chow Mein and chicken & Shrimp with green beans. The food came quickly and... More
