The food here is OK nothing special. It is extremely hot and they do not have air conditioning. They had a floor fan on high all through dinner and it really took away from the meal. When I think of Japan and Japanese cuisine it's supposed to be peaceful. Also the order the food came out and was quite strange.... More

I cannot pass through Nanaimo without stopping here. In fact, if it wasn't for Bistro Taiyo and a few other awesome little holes in the wall, I would never stop in Nanaimo otherwise because it is such a crass, vulgar hole. I live the the Bistro Taiyo pressed vinegared Mackeral sushi, the umeshiso roll, and the salmon belly. I always... More

Best sushi I've had in a long time. Fresh and unusual menu items served by great staff in the most unexpected city for good sushi. This will be my go to when in Nanaimo!

Good place for a business or social lunch. Food is good quality and service is efficient and food well priced. Always impressed when we go. Only maybe 12-14 tables so can be busy. Have never had a bad experience

Service was good. Food was delicious! I had the Bento Box of the day - while my Japanese friend had a custom ordered salad! I loved the salad, miso and the salmon teriyaki.

I have visited Taiyo on an off for a few years they have good authentic Japanese food, the cuts of sashimi are skillfully executed, and this place offers a great selection on the menu.

Bistro Taiyo is authentic Japanese restaurant that is the concept of real traditional cuisine of Japan. How to cut of sashimi is called ”Usuzukuri” that is the most popular way which is the best fresh condition. You might feel that sashimi is very thin if you compared it with like steak or pizza but this is traditional way that how... More

For the past few years we regularly travel (every other week) to Nanaimo for our Sushi fix all the way from Duncan. 2hr car ride return. Unfortunately, it is not for THIS Japanese restaurant described here. Nanaimo Sushi fans surely know which TripAdviser #1 restaurant has us so addicted. For the first time in at least 5 years, we've decided... More

Without a doubt the best sushi in Nanaimo. In the same ballpark as Ajasai and Toshi sushi in Vancouver.

I don't have much experience with the menu. I've only ever had the Daily Bento Box lunch. However, it is delicious. I get it with the potato croquette and spring rolls. Yummy. There is usually also a teriyaki and a small amount of sushi included in the bento box. Everything is tasty and fresh. Much better than those cheap sushi... More
