We were visiting Banff and had heard of this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. Service was exceptional, from the greeting at the door right till it was time to pay our bill and leave. The food was very good, especially my fish and chips and the beer was excellent. We were never... More

We really enjoyed the food, drink and atmosphere of this Irish Pub. I’m not a beer enthusiast, but my wife is. We were both awe struck by the taste of the oak aged Innes & Gunn Scottish beer. So much so that, another day, we went back for lunch. Recommended are the Steak & Guinness Pie, the Shepherd’s Pie and... More

Coming into Banff on our Key West Circle West Tour, my wife and I were looking for reliable good tasting food, and on previous trips to North America, found Irish Pubs consistently provide good "tucker". We were not disappointed. Warmly welcomed, we sat watching the sights and sounds of a busy pub. It seems to be obligatory to have either... More

I had a soup and salad my wife had the mussels. The mussels were plentiful and well prepared. The soup and salad were very good also. Though it was busy the service was fast.

Our first trip to Banff! Our friends brought us to St. James' Gate pub for lunch... what a bit of fun! Having been to Dublin, it was interesting to learn that this pub is apparently taken from the actual pub at St. James' gate! (Really?) Regardless, it's full of Guinness memorabilia and has a very cozy, Irish pub ambience. We... More

10 of us stopped in for tea, coffee, drinks and appetizers on a Sunday night. All the coffee shops were closed so we found this place. The service was friendly, the place big enough to set up a table for 10 and they didn't mind that some of us only wanted tea or coffee. They had a special on for... More

Great atmosphere in this typical Irish pub. We had two dinners here during our stay in Banff as we found the food very good and excellent value for money.

My wife and I called in for lunch today after reading some reviews on trip advisor . We were pleasantly greeted by our waiter "John" who explained the menu and took our drink order. Our drinks arrived promptly with the Guinness pint perfectly poured.my wife ordered the shepherds pie and I the chicken , bacon & leek pie. Both were... More

Visited the Pub for dinner and were pleased with the food, beer and general atmosphere. The waitress was nice and helped us choosing a local and tasty beer. We ordered the Guinness beef stew pie and the Bangers and mash and it was so good, my husband and I switched plates halfway so we could taste each others choice.

We went for lunch - the pub has become a bit of a mainstay for us when we are in Banff. The Irish Potachos are always a hit and are fantastic. Service is good with an excellent beer selection.

Our Story Begins in Ireland Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, St. James's Gate, established in 1996, was built and manufactured in Dublin, Ireland. The authenticity of the imported Irish woodwork and fantastic artifacts make St. James Gate one of the premier Irish Pubs in the world. The Gate has a warm friendly atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. Rub shoulders with local residents and tourists from around the world. The bartenders are friendly and prepare the drinks with care and consideration and the staff proves just what a capable & fun group of servers is worth. It's everything an Irish Pub should be.
