What a fabulous find, not only was the food and service great, but the staff could not have been more helpful, despite the food officially stopping at 9 p.m. they still served us our desserts where usually we would be met with 'the kitchen is closed' they really did make us feel very welcome and did not hurry us in any way.
My daughter has a large number of serious allergies and again they checked and double checked every part of her meal to make sure that it was ok for her to eat. The food itself was fabulous and so much of it, they certainly did not skimp on portions and it was very good value for money. This will now be our restaurant of choice when visiting the island and I would not hesitate in giving them 5 stars for everything, food, service, helpfulness wonderful pub and restaurant.

I come here quite a lot with my friends (who I was with this time) or with my husband & also family. I have been coming here for around 30 years really with its various different owners & these ones have not let this pub down since they have been here. The reason that I come here so often is that it's a lovely cosy pub with a bar area you can also eat in if you wish & also a comfy closed off dining room area if you would rather eat in there. It also has a large garden with picnic tables dotted around it for when it's sunny or dry & there is also a covered open sided gazebo area with heaters in for the winter if you don't fancy being indoors. It's open all year round anyway so if it's raining or windy it's perfect to go in there. The pub is dog friendly & provides water outside & treats in the bar. There's a good sized car park too. The staff have always been really friendly & helpful if you ever have a query about anything. They cater for allergies (both my parents have serious nut allergies & my mum also is lactose intolerant & has other issues & this has never been a problem. Neither have ever been ill from eating here which is no small feat with all their issues! The food is really really tasty & good sized portions. They offer smaller appetite meals for some of the choices too which are a good size also. The puddings are to die for! Drinks are a bit pricey but they are in most places nowadays. Never just turn up here, always book as it gets extremely busy, especially at the weekends & throughout the summer months. You might be lucky for going outside though as usually there's a table free out there with no time limit on them. If I had to be fair & say of a negative here (apart from it barely has a functioning bus route lol) it would be that they do 'sittings' for every booked table (including the outdoors gazebo) so you can't just spend a whole evening or afternoon relaxing & socialising with who you come to eat or drink with. It can feel a little like a production line because of this. I guess because it gets so busy here it gives more people a chance to eat here with these 2 hour slots, but then it kind of ruins the ambience of relaxing with the people you are with as you are clock-watching after a while & it can make you feel rushed. That's the only negative I can think of though. If they're not busy & no ones booked after you, you can stay where you are, but that's not guaranteed. We have had to leave on quite a few occasions & go & carry on somewhere else as the next people are ready to come in & take our table for their own slot. So just bear that in mind for the kind of visit you will want to do when you come here. But it's a lovely place on the whole & well worth a visit whether you live here like me or are visiting. Definitely a pub not to miss & they do cracking roasts as well!

We received a warm welcome when arriving and the pub has a cosy traditional feel which we love.
We arrived at 12.30 and there was no delay in service. I would recommend booking as all the tables had received boards on with atleast 2 sittings. My son has a dairy allergy which can make eating out a pain or he has the same food everywhere. It was a nice to see dairy free/vegan options available. He had a jacket potato with beans and cheese. It was a good size potato which was oven baked, loaded with beans and cheese severed with side salad. My partner had the homemade steak and ale pie with mash and veg, he said it was the best he has had for a very long time.
I had roast and couldnt decided between lamb or beef so had both (pork and vegan nut roast are also an option).
It was severed with roast potatoes, parsnips, mash potato, veg (carrots, broccoli, red cabbage and mashed swede) stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
My son had a pudding, which is a treat for him (due to allergy) he had vegan chocolate and caramel fudge cake served with dairy free chocolate ice cream. He said it was really good.
All the portion are of good size, we all left feeling very full.
We highly recommend and will visit again soon.

We called in for a casual drink but when we went to sit down we noticed all the tables had reserved on them. If we had been told we could not sit down inside but had to go outside we would not have bothered. Another couple did offer us to sit with them but we already felt uncomfortable and we will not be recommending this place to anybody unless they prebook for food

With family and friends we have eaten here for years a few times a month. Always been our first choice or pub. This evening was the biggest disappointment - new and unimaginative menu, very poor ‘roast’ dinner, the lovely team departing shortly and an empty pub. The food was extremely poor, little to no veg that was badly cooked, roast potatoes that looked liked they had sat on the plate a few hours and chicken that looked and tasted like a frozen chicken dinner. Please take note that loyal customers will walk away if something is not done to bring the joys of this pub back - a team that knows you by name, great food that is amazing value, great portions and proper cooking and above all a knowledge that you don’t change something that people love.

Nice building in a nice setting. However rude staff and mediocre food that is overpriced. Staff wouldn’t accommodate another person on our table because it would “block the walk way” however there was plenty of room. And the waitress was complaining to us that she’d been there since 5pm and it was 7pm at that time. So wouldn’t recommend, I’d recommend the blacksmiths outside Newport, where the previous owners of the pointers now run.

Visited the Pointer Inn with family, the service was very poor, one young girl who was a waitress was evidentially new, the other who couldn’t crack a smile and was well above her station, also not supportive to the new waitress at all. Left her on her own to take drinks and food order, and she didn’t know many answers to our questions and we had to prompt her to go and ask the kitchen. Lack of staff training there and allowing someone to be front of house when they are clearly not confident is a failure in itself. We only visited as a couple in spring and had a lovely meal and great service, however in such a short of space of time, the food standard has gone down hill, lack of flavour, portion size poor and salad I had ordered had hardly any salad at all and such tough chicken, no one came to do a table check and ask us how our food was, it took 15 minutes to get sauces. The pub was fairly empty, which is unusual for this place, so I think that speak volumes, with this in mind, the food took an hour to come out! I would not recommend this pub now.

So disappointed. This has slipped from one of our favourite Sunday Roast venues to possibly the worst. Was told there would be vegetable wellington for me - a vegetarian - in the event, I was given a processed veggie burger, which I didn't want to finish. We were given a small dish of plain steamed veg between two of us; the roast potatoes felt like they'd been kept on reheat for days, and the veggie gravy was too gloopy to pour. Pointer kitchen staff: you really need to sharpen up your act. It might work for you in the busy summer months, but we locals won't be coming back in the quiet winter months.

We ate here during our stay on the island. Having been recommended to it by friends we were extremely disappointed by the quality of food and service. We ordered chicken satay to share as a starter which took over 30 minutes to come even though others that had ordered well after us had got their mains. When it did come it was luke warm. After another 20 minutes we asked where our main was and overheard the staff discussing the fact that we were ‘complaining’. No apology was offered for the delay and eventually when it did arrive it was underwhelming. The belly pork was bland with the plate filled with mash and red cabbage. The lamb cutlets lacked flavour and the jus - at an extra cost of £2.50 - was fairly tasteless. Staff were friendly but showed no empathy. Overall, disappointing and cannot recommend.

Thank you for your review.
Unfortunately you are another diner who gets behind their keyboard and doesn't tell the truth.
You waited 25 minutes from ordering for your satay starter. Your chicken was piping hot as I probe every Satay to make sure the chicken is cooked sufficiently. The sauce is warm...if it is hot the peanut sauce splits.
It took you 3 minutes to share your starter.
You then waited 14 minutes for your mains.
You obviously didn't wait 20 minutes before asking where your mains were. It was more like 10 minutes to which i would say you were being impatient.
Our belly pork is one of the top 3 best selling dishes on our menu and we sell a lot of it. The menu tells you the pork is served with mash, sugar snaps and red cabbage and topped with cider sauce. Far from bland.
Your cutlets were seasoned and the red wine sauce freshly made.
You had a check back and never made a complaint.
The other table you mentioned had their mains before you received your main meals as they didn't have starters.
I think you were hoping to get something for free and this is why your disappointed.
You had eaten a freshly cooked 2 course meal in just over an hour at the peak dining time.

The pub is very good, the food we had was very good and as expected, unfortunately I cant get over the issue I had with my drink.
I specifically asked for half a pint of soda in a pint glass and half a pint of Amstel, this was initially paid for together with our meal.
before getting our meal, I went to the bar for the same soda and Amstel, I paid separately and was surprised the cost was £4.90, I asked for a breakdown as I thought this was expensive, I was advised half a pint of soda was £1.00 and half a pint of Amstel was £3.45, even though very expensive it didn't add up to £4.90, the member of staff who served me didn't take the necessary action and moved onto someone else.
I felt intimidated and was embarrassed to take this further.
With the 2 drinks I had, with the inflated prices I was well overcharged, nearly £1.00, in this present atmosphere eating out has become a treat and paying far too much is not acceptable.
On a positive note the wine was very good
I have eaten and drank at most well established pubs on the island, including The Pointers several times, and this is the only time I feel I have been ripped off.
I may have accepted the situation if I was offered a refund of the overpayment.

Great little find! Out for the day and really fancied Sunday lunch. Hit the jackpot here! Made so welcome by Lauren and her staff. Nothing too much trouble. "Of course, no problem" response to every question. Loved that serve 2 sizes of meals as we tend to waste so much nowadays. The roast was delicious, real food cooked well and served with a smile. They even provided me with a takeaway dessert as I had no room for it at the time. We highly recommend.

Took my Mum for lunch as it was her birthday. The choices on the menu were superb and it was great to see many of the items had an option for a smaller portion instead of the usual one or two. Perfect when you have an elderly relative with you or if you want to leave room for a pudding (many of which also had a smaller portion option!)
The food was simply excellent, beautiful, home cooked, very tasty and clearly prepared with love, care and attention.
Would love to eat here again, it’s also excellent value for money and not charging prices beyond itself like so many places do lately.
The only observation I would make is that the service could have been a little quicker… I think one more member of staff would have just clinched it. However, they did a superb job and were very busy, not surprisingly.

Had two wonderful meals at The Pointer Inn on Sat 10th July and Wed 13th July 2022.
Eating outside is in a lovely veranda or picnic benches with parasols.
Their slow cooked Steak and Ale Pie and Minty Lamb Pie were the best that I have ever eaten. The meat was of excellent quality, lean and tender.
The landlord and waiters were very polite and attentive.
Most items on the menu could be ordered in large or smaller sizes, and were all at a very reasonable and competitive price.
Looking forward to returning next year.

We popped in for a meal mid afternoon on a Thursday as they serve food all day. Nice welcome from the landlord who showed us to our table. Drinks all good. This is a fullers pub so reasonable choice.
Good menu choices. Food was really tasty and good. Proper chicken, ham and leek pie which had lovely chunky bits of meat in it served with choice of potatoes. I had chips which were good. Others had a really decent macaroni cheese and garlic bread and a lovely Caesar salad. Great thing is the menu has a smaller portion for most things for those not so hungry. We didn't have pudding but saw others in pub who did they looked lush. Noted on menu a nice choice of lunch sandwiches etc.
Great to see some locals in the pub enjoying a pint. Proper village pub with decent food. Recommend a visit.

I went here for lunch a few weeks ago with three friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I enjoyed my choice so much I’ve forgotten what the other three had!!
I liked it so much I went again today, this time with hubby.
We had starters this time, he had the salt and pepper squid, which he said was delicious and I had the garlic mushrooms which were equally tasty.
For mains we both had the belly pork, he had the regular portion, me the small.
It was just as good as I remembered - melt in the mouth pork, gorgeous crispy crackling, smooth creamy mash and a mixture of mange tout, curly kale and broccoli green veg.
Absolutely delicious!
No room for a pud this time, I had the biscoff cheesecake last time, which was gorgeous and beautifully presented.
Well worth the diversion to get there because of the roadworks in the village!!
