We have passed by this pub many times but never stopped before. Wish we had as the welcome and the food served was really good. Large portions and well cooked. I had the sea bass with fresh vegetables and it was very tasty, the fish...was perfectly cooked. Covid precautions very visable. The pub is very clean and the decor looked freshly painted. We will be back.More

After explaining that our food might arrive more slowly due to an unfortunate staff illness, our lovely and friendly server (whom I believe to be the proprietor) took our order and charmed our little girl. After 1/2 an hour our food arrived (an acceptable length...of time even without the staff shortages) and it was all fantastic. Prawn and Chili linguine, steak and ale pie & chips, and a child's (very generous portion!) chicken nuggets and chips, with peas. All of the food was tasty, the large tender chunks of steak in the pie were scrumptious! We had a pudding of Salted Caramel Cheesecake, and an Eton Berry Mess, which were also 5*! The food was perfect, the service was warm and courteous, and we highly recommend The White Lion at Arreton!More

An extreme friendly staff and very nice ambience. The mushroom risotto was absolutely delightful! I am an addict for this dish and this is def one of the best I ever had! Thank you so much to all the lovely staff and chef for looking...so well. I will be back many times and will spread the word!! Very nice pub if you come to Isle of Wight it is a must! Also all very clean and I could tell they do take hygiene seriously! Thank you again, now I will dream about the risotto until next time!More

Unfortunately, our experience of dining at The White Lion in Arreton was not a pleasant one. Two simple meals could not be delivered hot and as ordered, even though the pub was not busy. I suggest the ‘homemade’ steak and ale pie is best avoided...at all costs. In fairness, the staff were friendly and apologetic, offering a discount for poor food and a service mix-up. The ladies toilet facilities could be improved with a minimal amount of heating, instead they are stone-cold. The ambience could be improved with background music rather than playing a radio station. Minor shortcomings can be overlooked when the food and service are good but in this case the basics need to be improved.More

Just had the worst dining experience of my life. Lunch time on a Tuesday, not very busy, the food took over 1 hour to arrive, asked where our food was after 45 minuets, the bar person said they were busy though only a handful of...people were in there at the time. No apology or explanation were given. When our food eventually arrived we commented about the wait and again no apology given. I ordered a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw, the meal came without any cheese and the jacket potato was cold. My son had a Steak and Ale pie. It was burnt, dry and way to salty ! The food was terrible. If you are brave enough to try this place I guarantee you wont not come back a second time.More

During a week of pub lunches whilst visiting the Isle of Wight we twice visited the White Lion and we were most impressed with the friendly service and generous, delicious food. Conveniently situated in the centre of the island next to Arreton Barns shopping its...the best place to go!More

Great food friendly staff nice interior BUT…and it’s a big BUT Why oh why do the gents toilet have to suffer. Damp wet floors, toilet cubicle way too small. Pan not clean Dodgy lock. And can you believe it there was no toilet paper. For...this reason I won’t be using this place again. We visited this evening as a group of 3 without a reservation. The pub was fairly busy so we were advised of a 30 minute wait for food, this wasn’t a problem. We ordered a chicken korma off of the specials board, a steak and...ale pie and a vegetable lasagne. The food came out 30 minutes later and was delicious! It was all really well cooked and the portion sizes were generous! The staff were friendly and welcoming. Will return again as never had a bad meal at the White Lion.More

we travelled to the iow on a sunday and booked the white lion because it was one of the few that did a roast. big mistake when we walked in and gave our name we were told we were not in the book and was...asked if we had phoned the other white lion oh but they could fit us in - we were the only ones there we ordered drinks but they didn't know what a virgin mary was and had no idea how to make it the drinkj was absolutely unbalanced and awful we ordered our mains, two roast dinners - one chicken and one lamb we ordered starters from a different waiter soon after our mains came to the table we asked them to take the dinners back to the kitchen and keep them warm we did eat the starters - no comment when the mains came we just stared with our mouths open the chicken was half a chicken chopped into 4 pieces where it had been kept warm you couldn't cut it absolutely dry and solid I could go on but previous reviews have already mentioned the failings with the veg which we also experienced we didn't have a sweet just wanted to leave asap we will not be recommending this place and will never returnMore

Went here with my brother for dinner. One particular waitress had a stinking and judgemental attitude from the moment we walked in, huffy and puffy with no customer service, seemed like she could even be the Manager. We could hear her repeatedly saying to anyone...that would listen (and customers who had left their tables to approach the bar for something) that they were understaffed due to people isolating.. however, the other staff members seemed calm and in control and friendly. It wasn't very busy. This one waitress had a 'chip on her shoulder' and she seemed to have a problem with us, being specifically rude to me for some reason... Not wishing to psychoanalyse but it seemed a weird power thing, like she didn't want to 'serve' me and wanted to assert herself. There was no pleasantries or polite customer service with her, everything was too much to ask for, although we barely asked for anything. When she took our order, I requested to remove one simple item from the burger and my brother requested something for his chips, she didn't write it down and I said to my brother "watch, your order will be fine but mine will be wrong" and surprise, surprise.. you can guess what happened. The food was nice, possibly over-priced but similarly priced to other places we looked at. Over the course of being there, her demeanour with other customers seemed to reflect more positively, and we realised that they were people staying with a room there. The atmosphere was tense, there wasn't much privacy, food wasn't anything to write home about. She made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. All in all, it was a horrible experience and we couldn't wait to leave.More

What a find!!! Visited there last night before sailing back to the mainland. Super friendly staff and landlord and landlady (turns out she went to same school in London as my wife). Good was top notch - genuine Manzies pie mash and liquor - had...to be done. Will definitely be back next time I am on the island. Highly recommended!More
