Went back the The Old Hatchet after a very very long time due to a terrible meal the last time we went, now new Management and Staff. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table, the menu was not the biggest in the world but for a Sunday lunchtime it had a good selection, the food arrived as ordered and was a good size portion and was good quality, maybe a little on the pricier side for the area but still nice. However, what i do strongly object to is eating my lunch with dogs wondering around some not on leads. One owner was sitting on the leather soft with his BIG dog sitting next to him ..... It was soaking outside so the dog must of been wet and dirty to, after he left i saw a couple wiping down the seat so they could sit on it.... The table next to us had a dog on a lead who kept jumping up and the bar area was full of dogs. I'm sorry but even as a dog lover I do not want to sit and have my lunch with dogs all around me, its a restaurant not a Dog Kennel. Leave your dogs at home they don't want to be there ! - What about people who have allergies to Dogs, I'm sure something would be said if someone had a peanut allergy as I was sitting eating a bag of nuts. - Maybe make the top bar area dog friendly and the restaurant dog free maybe ?
In short would i go back? for the location and food yes, but the dog thing has really put me off so I would go to a dog free restaurant first which is a shame as things are a massive improvement on the last Managers.

Hello reidwb,
Thank you for posting a review about your experience with us here at The Old Hatchet. We were ecstatic to read that you enjoyed great food and great service while you were with us. We do offer a more extensive menu for Dinner and Lunch Tuesday through Saturday. Sunday is all about Roasts with a strong focus on providing a great Sunday experience of the highest quality fresh ingredients, and a warm and relaxing environment for all of our guests. We are a dog friendly pub and of course Sunday's are often about long walks with the fur baby and then a nice roast lunch and a tipple or 2 in Pub. Sunday's are when we welcome most of our 4 legged friends who bring their families along. We are pet friendly in the bar area and in the Dining Room, which is where you were seated. However we are very much aware that some of our guests prefer not to have a pet nearby whilst dining, therefore our Restaurant is a pet free area. Should we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future, please let us know that you wish to be seated in our pet free Restaurant area and we would be pleased to accommodate you. Again, thank you for dining with us and for your valuable feedback. Kind regards, Camille

Well for our trip this week we ventured into Berkshire and visited the Old Hatchet pub. It's been well over a year since we last visit, and even though now it's under new management we were not disappointed. We had a very warm welcome from the lady behind the bar,and after having a welcomed drink and ordering our meals we settled down to enjoy the warmth and ambiance of this quaint pub.
Our meals were served to us,and they were absolutely delicious, we were both well impressed.
We would like to pass on our heartfelt thanks to the staff for making our visit so nice.
From
Ray,Rosemary, and our dog Susie.

Ventured in for dinner after avoiding the place for years. What a great surprise. The place is still steeped in character, with a nice long bar and open fireplace, but the difference in the staff and food is amasing. Canadian waitress was a delight and the bar staff very attentive. The food prices might be nominally above the norm for the area, but it not expensive - starters, main courses and a bottle of wine was £60 for two. Keep it up guys, the area needs places like this.

This was our first visit to a bar following the easing of lockdown and we were so impressed by their covid protocols. Since then we have enjoyed a superb sunday lunch and dined several times under the bedouin style tent, complete with lighting and heating, in the large garden area.
The food is excellent and beautifully presented served by a well trained and knowledgeable team. The emphasis is clearly on using top quality ingredients skillfully prepared. The menu offers a good choice with daily specials, "Wings Wednesday" has developed a strong following and on Friday there is a a fish special. The wine selection is well balanced and very reasonably priced. The Old Hatchet is a great addition to our local dining choices.
Highly recommended give it a try.

Four of us went for a Sunday roast including a 12 month old baby. The pub was very friendly and baby friebdlt
Since Covid they have a really lovely outside seating area and are following guidelines
The roast dinner was really good and I would really recommend it.
The only thing I would say is there were a few tables with dogs and they were walking there dogs around and getting close to the tables. When my daughter became restless in the high chair and we took her away from people to have a look around while we waited for the bill we were told to go back to our table due to Covid guidelines. However, those walking dogs around the tables and getting close to us were not told the same advice.

Came across this lovely jewel of a pub on a day out in the area and actually contemplated returning the following day it was so good. The pub is situated in Cranbourne between Windsor and Ascot and has a large car park. It has low beamed ceilings and open fireplaces which on the day of our visit were roaring invitingly. The service was impeccable from start to finish, drinks ordered and delivered immediately. The staff were attentive and available despite the pub being reassuringly busy as we placed our order. The menu is extensive with plenty for all tastes. I can honestly say the food was beyond good and far better than I have had at some higher end restaurants in the area. My wife accidentally spilled her drink at one point and the team jumped in to deal with it discreetly and replaced the drink free of charge. The cost for 2 courses plus drinks and coffee for 2 people was £70 in a warm comforting environment, served by well trained attentive staff was money well spent and in a period of gloomy economic outlook, an investment in total pleasure. There was even a fantastic playlist of music at perfect volume as to be audible but not overbearing. The team at the old Hatchet deserve to be congratulated for impressive hospitality, top class unpretentious cuisine in a clean welcoming , comforting environment. Faultless! We will be back and will be bringing family and friends. This place should not be a secret!

While doing a roadtrip through the UK I stopped at the Old Hatchet for a quick pint and lunch. This proved to be a nice surprise because they served an absolutely gorgeous lamb shank and the atmosphere was kind of precisely what I was hoping for. Very relaxing place (staff interaction was great during visit) and definitely coming back when I’m in the Windsor area.

Fantastic food with excellent service. I had the rack of lamb special which was delicious. However the prices were on the steep side. Most people would probably visit only for a special occasion. It would be good to see a few pub staples at a slightly cheaper price. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed all our food & will return for a special occasion. Perhaps a set menu would be an option to encourage locals to visit regularly.

Me and my family visited this pub/restaurant for some lunch All our food come out cold the steak and kidney Pie was stone cold in the centre and my sons Pasta was still hard not even cooked manager had a disgusting attitude.
And this pub is great because it’s dog friendly but they should do a bit better on cleaning the dog hairs off the carpets/floor .
Smelly.
Would not recommend.

Sunday lunch 4th July 2021.
Great welcome by staff and seated promptly, drinks order taken and delivered swiftly. The menu was varied and interesting and portions of good size. The lobster bisque starter was excellent I could have eaten it again and the Apricot Nut Roast is the best I have ever tasted,
Well done team Hatchet, wishing you continued success.
We'll be back.
Cheers

Visited on Thursday evening, everything was perfect and is how a great British pub should be. Cosy, lovely decorations, warm fire and great hospitality.
We went for the burger as it was the special so
great value for money. It was great cooked nicely and not at all greasy, can also recommend the chunky chips.
The service was also super attentive and we felt very relaxed and not rushed, arrived at 18:30 and ended up staying till closing.
I recommend this pub and hope they continue to do well

Booked in last minute for a late lunch, never been before, had a quick look on TA of local pubs in the area. All I can say is Wow, what a find, very cute outside and in, cosy and clean, little shaky entrance only because we’ve never been before and unsure where to go and I think they assumed we had, totally helpful when they realised we haven’t. The waitress was very friendly and attentive but not too much. They made us garlic bread to share for starter but wasn’t on the menu which was very garlicky and fab!! I had the Tiger Prawns chicken and chorizo linguine, I can honestly say it was perfect, my husband was shocked as I ate the whole lot, unlike me, he had steak and ale suet pudding mash ann veg, he said it was great, the Pinot was also great, the stowford press a cider which is his least fav was crisp and tasty, the best stowford he had ever had. A really lovely last minute treat, we will be back for sure, thank you guys 😊

Had a work dinner at the pub and the food was outstanding!! Beautifully presented and very, very tasty. Everyone in our group thought it was excellent. I had the avocado seafood cocktail to start - very fresh ingredients and totally yummy; my 'main' was two other starters - chorizo arancini (very tasty) and Crab & Mushroom Bisque (gorgeous but very rich and filling). Other meals on the table included lamb shank, prawn & chorizo linguine, steak & kidney pie, beef burger and frech onion soup. Everybody was highly complimentary of their meals. Staff were so very friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be going again.

My husband and I chose the Old Hatchet because we had looked at other venues in the area but none of them where is the same league as the Hatchet. We booked the Back Room as Richard and Camille call it and it was just perfect for our guests. With Richard's and Camille help we gave our friends and family three starters, three mains to choose from and if anyone wanted a dessert they could order one from the main menu, this worked very well
The food and the wine (Camille knows her wines) were amazing. They are great hosts and their staff were very attentive. We are looking forward to eat at the Old Hatchet again soon
A very big Thank You Richard, Camille and Staff for making our Golden Wedding Lunch perfect
