Great to sit outside in the summer sun by the canal. Staff varied from friendly to unhelpful. Food portions were good except for the scampi which was over priced for what you got, but lasagne is excellent value

We're on a canal holiday. 5 adults and a grumpy teenager& two big dogs. So a 'Relaxed visit'! We'd been cruising for a few hours and lunch was due and this was about as far a we were going to travel on our trip. The weather was glorious and people were all sat outside in the beer garden. It looked... More

We stopped here for lunch and though I got a panini and not the sandwich I ordered it was delicous. The memorabilia in there is great and the other 5 in our party got the food they were expecting and it was good. Very welcoming .

We are exploring the Kennet & Avon canal from Bristol to Reading bit by bit with our bikes. Hence trying out many of the canal-side pubs - this pub is very average in comparison with most, and I would not recommend seeking this out by car. The inside is generally one large space with a bar set in the middle.... More

Out exploring the lanes and white horse spotting on motorbikes and this was a must visit. Had a pint and a stroll along the towpath. Will definitely return, probably with tent to pitch in the campste.

Interesting location, looked like a nice pub. Woman behind bar had no training at all and I think had never previously worked behind a bar. Not a clue what drinks they had, how to use the till - absolutely clueless. The bloke (landlord?) was training her on the job - should have been done BEFORE she was allowed to serve... More

We recently called into the The Barge without knowing of any of its history. We found an old-fashioned pub, with an interior that reminded me of some large pubs in Australia or the East End of London many decades ago ie a large bar in the middle of the pub surrounded by Spartan furnishings. The bar staff were friendly enough... More

So named as it is a stop for barges that travel the canal it is on, the Barge Inn caters to holiday makers that camp in the camp grounds and those that travel on the canal. It is known for the decor - a great painted ceiling and various artwork depicting crop circles, not so much the food. "The ceiling... More
