Our concierge highly recommended we stop in and try this restaurant as we were craving some Mexican food! The restaurant atmosphere is super cool and the vibe itself is dynamic, and we loved every minute of it! The service was outstanding I’d just caution you to ask for prices if they offer you a drink without looking at the menu first. Upon sitting down, our server asked us if we wanted a margarita to start, to which we agreed, however we felt like we got hustled when we were charged $20 usd for a single shot of tequila…our bad for not asking first, it just felt a little sneaky. Prior to knowing these prices, we did order 2 birthday shots for our friend however they brought out 3 and still charged us for the 3. The food is good, but I’d call it bougie Mexican, so if you’re looking for some good ol’ chicken enchiladas, look elsewhere. Overall it’s super cool, but it is very pricey, and not 100% worth it in my eyes.

As you walk in, you admire all of the design, art, and layout of the place. The bar and tables are nicely spaced out with each creating a enjoyable atmosphere. We were here for a 3 hour dinner and the music was incredible the whole time. You can feel the music and vibe in your bones. We ordered mango and spicy margaritas and each came out with a special attention to lighting the sage/lime at the table. They start with a complementary pork grind with salsas which are very tasty. We ordered guacamole which is prepared table side in a clean and elegant manner. We ordered the salmon, cactus tacos, beef rib tacos, and churro flan for dessert. Each was incredibly presented and the taste was spectacular. Each table has hand sanitizer and the waiters wear masks. They take the service to the next level and makes sure you are having a great time.

Best dinner ever

Yazmin was the best best server. She took care of us the entire meal. I can’t express how delicious the food is. From appetizers to main courses, we were all impressed by the flavors and service we received. Four of us ate for $250 USD, but it was FINE DINING in an immaculate environment. Candles lit everywhere. Couches with cushions. We will be back!

This might just be because Mamazzita was really not our scene, but I can’t say that we enjoyed our experience here. I’ve taken down my original review, which I felt pressured to complete before leaving the restaurant. I feel that all reviews are made in this way, which is probably why the majority include the waiters name, who more or less stands over you while you write it! The restaurant looks good and I can’t deny that the food was delicious, BUT the price really did not match our experience, in my opinion. It’s hugely overpriced: you’re paying purely for the location and the fact that those who clearly enjoy spending money like to post that they’ve visited here on insta. It felt like a backdrop for a photo and therefore quite inauthentic. It felt posy, pretentious and the girls swaying side to side made us feel weird and uncomfortable. Sorry to the staff who are clearly working hard for their tips, but who only receive one if you’re willing to pay on top of the service charge already added to your bill by the restaurant. Nice food, but we’ve enjoyed the same food in places with a more enjoyable atmosphere, and for half the price, elsewhere in Tulum.

We went to the restaurant Mamazzita to celebrate the birthday of my wife... what to say unfortunately it was really not a good idea, that caused by the waiter Christian! The first time in my life that I see a waiter not serve me what I order, because the prices of the dishes ordered are not high, in addition he insists with you so that you take what he wants, to the point where it becomes embarrassing. My wife had to tell him 4 times to propos her different dish wich is 200pesos more.. Same thing for the alcohol my bottle of wine was still filled and here he is coming back to fill my glass to the brim and tell me "Hahaha now you have to take another". We did not finish our plates that I asked the bill that arrives and all the prices were not equal to the menu (proof has the support) he tells me to put me 15% tips on it I refused because I had a very bad service, I give 10%! He calls the manager to tell me the tips are mandatory at 15%! Under terrible pressure I had to pay not to fear for my safety...

Amazing Food - Terrible Wait Staff

The food was great, although it was a little pricey, especially for Mexico. The service was a little overwhelming. We celebrated a birthday and the server suggested a bottle of tequila. We had an early morning start the following day so we politely declined. The server kept trying to sell us a bottle after we declined several times. We almost bought it just to get rid of her. In another occasion, My friend ordered a drink that she didn’t care for at all. I asked the server if she can trade it for something else. The server kept asking and asking what was wrong with it. SHE JUST DIDN’T LIKE IT. What do you want her to say?? The server would not accept that. She wanted to pinpoint the exact reason why she didn’t like it. She even had the bartender come to our table and keep asking the same thing. The bartender took the drink to the bar and remixed the same beverage and served it to her again asking if she liked it now. Being that it was the same drink, my friend still didn’t like it, but had to pretend she did just so they would leave her alone. She didn’t end up drinking it. It was about $16. Throughout the whole meal, the server would come by and asked how everything was, if there was anything else we would like. It sounds like she’s just doing her job, right? No. This was overkill. We couldn’t even enjoy our meals or conversations. It was really uncomfortable. Also, we did not split the bill, so we tipped 18%, which we thought was very generous considering the service we received made us feel uncomfortable. (Standard tip is around 10% in Mexico). And the server did not accept the tip amount. She asked if there was something wrong with the service and why we did not tip higher. One person in my group ended up giving her more money just so she would stop hounding us. I loved the food, I would go back. I got a seafood tamale and an octopus huarache. Both were amazing. The huarache was my favorite. I would maybe order to-go lol just so that I can eat peacefully.

If you’re looking for a dinner reservation, do NOT trust reviews for this location and look elsewhere. We went here to celebrate a family member’s 60th birthday. All looked well initially. Luis, our waiter, helped us pick out appetizers and described each one as “tiny,” which was very clearly not true when the food came out. We ended up ordering much more food than we needed (which was just average as well). When it came time for the bill, Luis stood there at the table counting the cash in front of us. I’ve never had that experience before at what’s supposed to be a “nice restaurant”. He proceeded to tell us that our 15% tip was not enough and had the audacity to ask for more. Service was dreadfully slow (which I’m guessing was by design to get us to stay longer in the hopes of spending more money and making the restaurant look busier to get more people in.) We saw all these photos of celebration desserts, but received nothing in terms of a celebration for a birthday. We told him that it was absolutely ridiculous to be asking for more tips and walked out. I’m sure a “manager” will respond to this review saying they’d like to have us back. The answer is a resounding NO. Avoid this tourist trap.

Wow, not good wow, but wow. Went here for dinner. Our waitress upsold us to a $400 USD dinner for 2. We dont speak good Spanish so we didn’t know what we were in for. The food was just ok, but, flies EVERYWHERE! Like everywhere you couldn’t eat without swatting 20 flies away from your food the whole time. The waitress, Carmela, I believe, was selling herself at every point. “Leave me a good review”…constantly. And if that weren’t enough, we started with nice ambient music and 15 minutes in, we were in the club. Couldn’t enjoy the company because it was so loud. Very overrated part of the franchise including Taboo and Tantra so if that’s your vibe please enjoy the overpriced food and beach club scene.

Worst night ever

The restaurant served us a soup with stones that had been heated on fire as a decor next to the dish and did not warn that these were hot stones that should not be touched while eating. Burned my whole hand and was offered some Vaseline and that’s it. Worst night ever to end my holiday. Will definitely recommend all my friends who go to Tulum to avoid this incompetent place. They did not offer any discount or a drink as an apology.

Poor service, angry manager

I was going to just not write a review since we’d had great experiences at two other Rosa Negra restaurants this week, but the manager at Mamazzita was so out of line that by the time we left I felt I had a moral obligation to warn the public to not go here. So what happened? My food was actually fine. The problem was half my wife’s octopus was so overcooked that it was impossible to chew. We’re not talking a little tough, we’re talking totally inedible. Like leather. At the thickest point it was too tough to even cut with a knife. We told our server who told another man; both were apologetic and the man mumbled something about “will fix it”, only to disappear. 10 minutes later, he reappeared with some plates and spoons that he sat in front of us and then he ran away again. Another 10 minutes go by and by this point we just want to leave. Fix it guy is nowhere to be found. So we ask our server for the check. 10 more minutes. A smaller man who I figured must be a manager of some sort appears with a credit card machine. He asks how everything was and if we want to add a gratuity. Evidently he’s completely unaware of everything we just went through with the other two people. We tell him the service and food were terrible and we would appreciate it if he just ran our card so we could leave. This made him very angry. He mumbled something in Spanish I didn’t get, and with great fanfare he ran our card. Finally we left. I had a flashback to “Amy’s Baking Company” from Kitchen Nightmares and we got out of there. If you don’t know what this is, Google it and watch. You’re welcome. So the moral of the story at Mamazzita is you better like the food or you’re wrong. What an incredibly strange experience. Like the other restaurants in Rosa Negras arsenal, a great deal of money and care have obviously gone into both the facility and the menu at Mamazzita, so to conclude our final night here in Tulum with a perplexing experience like this one is a real shame. I was expecting more.

Great night out with fun dancing

Overall great choice for a night out until noon. This was our first night here and it was a great start to our vacation. We arrive around 10 PM when there was a series of shows with sparklers singing and dancing. The singer is amazing and the staff does a really good job of getting you up to dance and enjoy. This is definitely an experience type of restaurant so it takes time to order and get drinks the food takes quite a while but you can see the cooks making fresh tortillas and they also make the guacamole at your table which is kind of cool. I loved how involved and genuinely engage the staff was in making sure everyone’s having a good time and dancing with the customers. I also love that they handled sparklers quite a bit and encourage the ladies to stand on the chairs and tables and really enjoy and celebrate. No the food I would say was average at best. It is a sharing style so everything that is ordered is brought out to the table for everyone to share. They do have a couple of vegan options but they are very small. The mushroom quesadillas were OK and very very small and the tacos no palace we’re not really good at all unless you’re around vegan and then you might like them. The guacamole was nothing special. Then to split the bill they only take three cards which was annoying and it would’ve been nice to know in the beginning but they don’t charge a minimum, there’s no cover charge and there’s no time limit which apparently is not super common so this is a great place to go overall it’s super fun it’s a great night and I would recommend it! Shout out to the DJ as well, music is very good. @djafner

This isn’t the place for a quiet snd intimate dinner, but if you’re into pulsing high energy vibes and great food, this is the spot. We were lucky to grab a table for dinner at literally the 11th hour (11pm-midnight) and were treated like royalty.

To say Mamazzita’s was amazing is an understatement. From Angela in the beginning of our visit to Agostina helping with suggestions of the area. Angel helped us along through our meal and made it an incredible experience. Angela sang to our table to celebrate my friends I CAN. NOT. Say enough good things about Aaron. If you are coming to Mamazzitas you need to request Aaron. His knowledge of the menu and honest suggestions was by far the tipping point that brought this visit from a 10/10 to a 10+++\10. If you miss out on this gem while in Tulum you have made a large mistake.

Came to celebrate my 30th birthday in Tulum. Been to Cancun and Playa Del Carmen several times however Tulum was a first. Stayed in an airbnb literally next to Mamazzitas. My lady and I had a reservation for 8pm. Luis and Toño attended us the whole time up until past midnight. Great food, overall great service. Luis and Toño were 100% attentive to what we needed and recommending food/drinks. Will highly recommend this place as the music is also great. Overall, very happy with their service. Coming back for sure. The vibe was great.

The worst experience

The food was good but too much expensive. The waitress had the audacity to ask us for more tips after we just left more than 20€ of tips. The music was so loud that we couldnt even talk to each other. We dont recomend at all. It was a really unpleasant experience.
