I went there with my girlfriend last week as a last minute trip to scape Corona crazyness from my city. Even though it was short notice, the reservation team (Polina) was very helpful to find a table for us and gave us information for our booking like restaurant being cash only, estimated price points, nearby parking lots, cash withdrawals in town, etc. Every doubt I had was answered. Arriving to the restaurant the hosts are very friendly and helpful too, they quickly offered us a drink while waiting 5 min for our table to be ready. Our waiter told us about the menu and made sure to accommodate some allergies and food restrictions even though the menu is made by the Chef daily, they were able to make sure we had a great meal. Prices are some of the highest we paid in Tulum but we believe it’s worth it and if you are looking for a special treat, this is it! We left very satisfied and even had to take some of our food to go as we were to full already. Also we felt very safe since the restaurant is open air and all staff wears face masks, during our time in Hartwood we really enjoyed ourselves and the atmosphere. Thank you Hartwood for being a great getaway and a real experience in Tulum!

Booked a table for 2 at 8:30 on Valentine's day 2020. We arrived 15-20 minutes early and checked in with the hostess and waited for our table to be ready. Within minutes of sitting down to wait for our table, a server from the bar came over to us and asked us for drink orders while we waited. All in all, I believe the value you receive for the food, service and ambience completely exceeded all expectations. Having lived in New York City for the past three years, a restaurant of this caliber would set one back upwards of $275.00. We each got 2 cocktails, ordered one appetizer, two entrees and two sides, with tip included, we spent around $130 USD. The short ribs and catch of the day were both cooked to perfection. We'd absolutely return on the next trip to Tulum.

We went there with high expectations due to the nice atmosphere, for the last dinner of our Mexican vacation. Food was presented well from a board. We took in total five dishes to share. Food and drinks was served very fast and our total dinner lasted approx 45 minutes. The food was good but in no way great. Prices was way above the quality of the food and they don’t take credit card. You really got the feeling that the main ambition was to get you in and out of the restaurant as fast as possible. It is a good place to eat, but there are many better options in Tulum

We booked a 7pm table a month in advance. We arrived a few mins early for a drink at the bar, and were seated shortly after. We ordered 5 starters and 3 main courses between 4. The grouper fish ceviche, vegan tostada and prawns in particular were amazing appetisers, followed by delicious octopus, aubergine and sea bass. Everything incredibly fresh. The service does seem slightly rushed - they obviously want to turn tables around quickly - with starters coming out within 3/4 minutes. Drinks post-meal didn't seem encouraged. The prices for the food seemed fair, but about ÂŁ12 for 700ml of water seemed unnecessary.

We have been lucky enough to dine at Hartwood 3 times now. The first and second times were incredible! I was obsessed with their lobster salad. This time they took my favorite salad off of the menu, which I get because their menu changes constantly. They offered a rock lobster not on the menu and I swear up and down that the waiter said it was 800 pesos. It ended up being huge and 1800! Pesos. It was ok, but it was simply a huge lobster. For the cost I was super disappointed and then we were rushed off of our table. I am happy for the great memories, but I will be looking elsewhere for our special dinner in Tulum next time...unless they bring back my precious lobster salad ;) I will say the ceviche is pretty incredible- do yourself a favor and order that if you can get a reservation! Emailing a month in advance is the way to go!

We got a reservation for 5.30pm on Valentine’s night about a month before but actually we could have just walked in at that time. Staff friendly, talked through a slightly complicated menu which was on a blackboard. The prawns were massive and came with a spicy sauce. Although it was a starter it was plenty big enough for my main. My husband said the pork ribs in tamarind sauce was amazing. We had a couple of the cocktails and a bottle of water and it came to about $100 including tip. Not cheap but a special place.

Hartwood is a staple for fine dining in Tulum. Reservations are required about a month in advance and yes, it's expensive and cash only. With that out of the way, the food is excellent and Hartwood truly is an experience. We tried a ceviche, the shrimp (some of the best I've ever had!) and a jicama salad to start and a beautifully grilled fish with roasted beet (seriously??? wow!) and a zesty key lime pie for dessert. Servers were knowledgable without being pretentious or pushy. With drinks and tip, the bill was 3800 pesos for two.

There are many pricey places to eat in Tulum and we hit up many of them. Hartwood was the only one that I felt was worth it. Their vegetable appetizers are outstanding. Best I’ve ever had. Drinks, entrees, desserts also fantastic. Plus the atmosphere is quite romantic (open air, candle lit, tho somewhat loud music). Will definitely come back.

We visited Hartwood because the concept is known internationally. This place is quite good from a food perspective, however, excellent restaurants in Tulum are now in plethora. The issue with Hartwood is the compulsory 15% service fee (which was unknown to the diner) and the seemingly arbitrary pricing, particularly with drinks. I don’t mind paying for best in class, but needing to carry huge amounts of cash with me to eat at Hartwood is not something I intend to do again. Overall, I’d rate the experience a low B or high C.

I usually do not spend too much time and words on negative reviews but this place earned every one of them. For starters, food and drinks are highly overpriced. Service is far from ideal but things get really nasty when they bring the check and let you know they don’t take credit cards. The “Overpriced” and “no credit cards” combination means a lot of cash, which is not particularly smart in Mexico and much less in Tulum, where safety is far from ideal. We volunteered several cards to settle the bill but the waiters started to insult us for not carrying cash. We asked for the manager and this shirtless teenager shows up to insult us again. Terrible is an understatement. Trust me, after 60,000+ readers I’m sure this is not the idea of the consumer experience you have in mind coming all the way to Tulum...Stay away.

This was our second time dining at Harwood and it did not disappoint. We booked a month in advance for a 9:15 seating. We arrived a few minutes early and were greeted warmly by the hostess and told that our table wasn’t ready but we could sit on one of the benches and order drinks. Drink orders were quick and we waited maybe 10 minutes for the table. Our server (Hunter) was friendly and walked us through the menu and gave guidance on the dishes. We ordered two starters, the cerviche and grilled shrimp; shared a fish dish for the main with a side of the beets (amazing). Everything was so flavorful and well presented. The special grapefruit cocktail that night was tart and refreshing as well. We asked if we could have dessert (ice cream, very good) at the bar and that was no problem at all, they moved us right over. Last year we tried a house coffee mezcal and it was available again this year. We had a lovely time chatting with the bartenders, especially Rob. The ambiance of Hartwood is lovely with the outdoor setting and the low lights. We would definitely return here but be sure to book ahead and the later seating makes for a relaxed evening. The food is fantastic- we loved everything we ordered.

I had such a great time at Hartwood! It was raining so I ducked into their restaurant and sat at the bar. I'd never tried Mezcal before and the bartenders were so knowledgable and willing to share their expertise as I did a small sampling. The food was delicious too. If you're looking for a place to have a nice dinner with really unique and creatively made local food - this is your place!

We have been here on most of our trips to Tulum. This may have been the best visit ever. We got in with 6 people with only a cocktail's worth of a wait. Every dish for every person start to finish was magnificent. We hit all the better restaurants in the area that week and hands down all 6 of us felt Hartwood was the best meal. Our server was a real pro. I have multiple dietary restrictions so not having explanations on the chalkboard menu is difficult, but our server knew the ingredient so well, he could easily help me modify and navigate without having to run back and forth to the kitchen. The kitchen is absolutely a well oiled machine. We couldn't believe how quickly and coordinated they got out so many dishes so hot and so fresh in such little space. It's one of the best restaurants I have been to anywhere.

Really, who is posting that this is great???? Please, if you look for good food, don't come here. This is vastly overpriced bland food, served by lovely people, but 200 euros for two is rediculous. I promise you, if you go after reading this, you WILL be dissapointed.

This restaurant was recommended by several family members and it was with a little trepidation that we went, sometimes good recommendations can lead to a let down. Hartwood was great from the moment the maitre de led us to our table till we left. The ceviche tropical was to die for and the lobster was done and presented to perfection. The guys waiting are fantastic and great fun as was the music playing. A great vibrant barbecue style restaurant with no pretensions, will never get a Michelin star because fine dining it is not! But for me it epitomises Tulum. My only reservation is I hope I can afford to go back again before I leave Tulum!!
