Just like Tulum itself, this is overhyped and fake like the people from LA. It’s all about status and trendiness, not quality food. The food was meh. Lacked seasoning on the fish. The steak was not cooked right. The only thing that saves this place...are the two waiters from Spain. Great guys. However the rest of the staff watches you as you eat, rushes you out, wouldn’t let me pay at the table. I travel all over the world, I’ve never been more disappointed in a place in my life. I went in with high hopes and positive vibes. Maybe it was the girl from LA in line who said isn’t Tulum great because of the hippy vibe? Lady, you wouldn’t know what a real hippy is if it hit you in the face. Stay on Instagram. Don’t bother. Do yourself a real favor. Take a 20 dollar cab ride into downtown, meet some actual locals and eat actual Mexican food from the street vendors. It will be a 50 dollar total night, cab cost and all and you’ll have some of the best food you’ve ever eaten. And, if you’re open to it, you may actually take in some real culture, not the fake bullsh** along the beach.More

BEST MEAL I'VE EVER HAD. Not an exaggeration. We loved everything about this restaurant. We loved watching the bartenders mixing up delicious and unique cocktails - the best we had in Tulum. The kitchen looks so cool with the wood fires. We loved the sustainability...efforts here - chalkboard menus, candles on the tables, very few lowly lit lights, wood fires. The service was impeccable. I don't know our waiter's name, but he was from Spain. He knew that menu inside and out. Was able to describe every dish and provide great recommendations. The rest of the wait staff was on top of it. The second we finished a dish, someone was there to take it. If someone saw us looking around for a second, they recognized we wanted something and came to ask us if they could assist. We ordered the Ceviche De Quelites, Salbutes de Cordero (lamb tacos), Filete de Robalo (grilled fish), Costillas al Agave (shortribs), and the Betabel (beet). Every dish as it was brought out kept getting better and better. The Ceviche was so flavorful! But the LAMB...!! So juicy and had so many amazing flavors. The fish was probably the least favorite, but was still delicious. It just was much lighter compared to the other dishes we got. THE SHORTRIBS were our favorite dish. It was so so so so juicy, tender, fell right off the bone. We couldn't understand just how they cook it so perfectly. It made us want to go back for another night! Honestly, if we come back to Tulum, we could eat here every night.More

One of the best meals I have ever had. From start to finish. The menus are on standing chalk boards with only titles, so the servers come and recite the entire menu and each dish's preparation BY MEMORY. Over 20 items... in great detail! And...then the FOOD was UNREAL. Such incredible flavor. The wood fire approach is a huge win and the open, outdoor seating is so nice. Can't recommend enough.More

The food was damn good. Delicious ceviche, tacos, cocktails. Fresh fish was wonderful. On food alone it’s 9.5/10. However they are really hurting for some air movement. It was hot AF (as the kids say) and there was no fan or anything to help. My...girlfriend is NEVER hot and she was sweating. Service was excellent, but almost too fast. Felt a little like they were rushing us out of there. Overall still very good tho.More

My husband and I went to this restaurant for our honeymoon. We heard that this place was exquisite but my lord we had no idea that we would have the best meal we have ever tasted in our lives. I never knew such a simple...dish could be the most amazing. The flavors and combinations are just incredible. My husband and I are so happy we got to go here and if we get the chance we will be back for more food for sure! Whats even cooler is that the menu is always changing so when you go you get to find out what surprise meal you will get!More

Hartwood was our last dinner during our week-long stay in Tulum. It seems to be the most critically acclaimed restaurant in the area, and after dining there, I understand why. In a town with one of the best culinary scenes in the Yucatan, Hartwood delivers...on all fronts including service, ambience, presentation & exceptional food & cocktails. We were fortunate enough to sit at the bar where Israel & Robert delivered the best hospitality experience of our entire trip. They were able to entertain our conversation while absolutely crushing the service well for a packed restaurant. The seafood, slow-cooked ribs, roasted beet, savory desert, cocktails & wine were brilliant. The execution of the entire experience was as close to perfection as anything I’ve ever experienced. Get a reservation, wait in line for an hour – do what you need to do to visit this restaurant during your stay.More

Hardwoods (cash only) is an upscale culinary experience. They have the best pork ribs I’ve ever ate. To die for prongs in an aioli sauce, grilled pineapple, kale salad.. my only regret is we didn’t have enough cash or we would have tried everything on...the menu!!! Fun and exciting environment. The vibe is over the top. Friendly staff and very clean. They go above expectations. Pricey!! Remember upscale. If you want authentic food for the price locals would pay, stay in downtown Tulum not Tulum Beach. Tulum beach is “party” central! Very “spring break” vibe. Lots of upscale restaurants, boutique hotels with live music and night clubs.More

Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to dine at this restaurant because after several attempts to make a reservation via email...no one ever responded. The auto reply message received by Hartwood after submitting a reservation request states that you will receive a reply within 1-3...days. After 3 attempts on my end and another by my friend, neither of us ever heard back from them after 1 week. We moved on and had the most amazing meal at 130 Grados in town which I highly recommend. Needless to say, Hartwood definitely needs a better reservationist!.Their customer service, or lack thereof is extremely poor!More

My half-sister and I practically rolled our eyes when everyone told us we MUST come to this one specific restaurant. Regardless, we took their word and I emailed Hartwood a month in advance. The night before we had eaten a less than satisfactory meal at...a nearby establishment, and so we had high hopes for Hartwood. It was incredible. We particularly loved the Ceviche, which was fresh and had avocado and Jicama along with a white fish. The Lipstick was maybe one of the best cocktails I have had. Refreshing and a wonderful, fruity flavor. The menu changes daily, and I can attest to the fact that this is because the food is fresh. Do not make the mistake of walking up night of, as you most likely will not get a table. Make the reservation, I promise you that you won't regret it!More

I thought this was the best meal we had in tulum. Every other restaurant is just trying to create a good Instagram vibe while charging $50 for an entree. Hardwoods food was actually quality while maintaining an intimate and fun atmosphere. Would suggest.

Plan on spending $150-200 USD if you are having food and alcohol. Cash only. It’s worth every penny. Email for reservations a month prior otherwise you will wait a long time for a table. Do it!
