So, we went twice and the first time was a pleasant experience. The fish tacos are loaded and if you ask for the habanero sauce, they’re taken to a new level. The cocktails are good too, what you’d expect for the price. You also get...chips and salsa as soon as you sit. The reason I’m only giving an average review is because of the service. The waiters were okay, nice enough but nothing memorable. Our first visit was better than the second but we still had too flag someone down after waiting to long to close our tab. I really like their draft IPA, and I’d rightly recommend it for this reason. We can at 7, sign outside said it was Happy Hour until 7:30 but the waiter said it was only until 7. I went twice, the second time left a bad impression. Not sure if I’ll go again while here, maybe I’ve just gotten used to the amazing service in Tulum, it’s hard to go to Applebee’s level with such high prices.More
Great food and service!!
Stopped for a beer and a margarita and left happy!
Perfect table facing the street, cold beer and a maracuya margarita (must try!). Ended ordering the grilled fish tacos and they were perfect! A must stop! Gabriela was our server and...really made our experience!!!
Will be back!More
My wife and I visited Tulum on our honeymoon and came across this gem. Right on the main drag you get to see the busy streets of Tulum while enjoying a fresh made margarita or amazing fish tacos. Luis saved a seat for the Seahawks...Monday night football game, and he treated us like family!!! He never let our drinks get empty and was celebrating with us throughout the game. By far the best service we experienced was at Mateos from Luis. Great vibe, live music, and stellar food!!! Will definitely visit again when we make it back to Tulum. Gracias Luis!!!More
Some of the best if not the best Fish Tacos and Ceviche we have had here in Tulum.
The spot for live sports and good vibes, would reccomend anyone visiting to come check it out for at least one meal or more!
Ask for Samuel,...excellent host and guy.
We well certainly be back!More
Had such a great experience at Mateo’s! The food was outstanding, and the hospitality was even better. Stopped to watch some NBA games, and Luis Miguel was amazing and provided us with everything we asked for. Highly recommended this spot.
Me and my boyfriend was very excited to visit this place from the reviews we read. We thought the place would be a great spot to stop by after a long day at the beach & watch the sunset. We were wrong, when we arrived...we were greeted very dry but more or so stared at as if we were at the wrong place. Seeing that they had an upstairs and it was about to be sunset soon, we asked if we could dine upstairs. We were told “in a few minutes” but not given a legit reason. We sat downstairs, it took a while to put in a order for drinks and food & another couple walks in, they were greeted and they go straight upstairs to the patio and sit down as if they’ve been there before. The servers were “choosy” we could tell some of them didn’t want to take our table at first, until one walked over like he was the one given the bad deal. My mojito was warm I only sipped until my boyfriend finished his food and left ASAP.
Very unwelcoming experience I’d say. If you’re a tourist looking for a great time I’d say save your $ on this place.More
We eat a lot of tacos. Best fish tacos we've ever had, seriously. The staff/bartenders were awesome, especially Jose, Luis, and Manuel! Awesome margaritas, I love spicy drinks and the jalapeño marg was no joke and the bomb. A local brewery, Mundo Maya, had some...beers on tap that were great as well. We were on our honeymoon and enjoyed fancy restaurants at night and beach clubs, but we found ourselves at Mateos every day. Got to the point where Jose, Luis, or Manuel would have a marg and shot of Don Julio 70 poured before we bellied up to the bar. It will be the first stop next time we visit Tulum. Sunset rooftop bar and live music really cool too!More
