This place would be a backpacker haven in the summer. It's built like a tree house and there's a decent (not amazing) view up the top. In the winter however, it was really cold up the top once the sun set. Would probably be OK if you were drunk. We had the 2 for 1 cocktails - they give you... More

Love going to Mateo's. It was something we had heard of before our trip to Tulum. Loved walking by the street bar to grab drinks to walk to the beach with, then returned for the night to watch the sunset on the third floor patio bar. Amazing Happy Hour that is a very good value! The food is amazing too.... More

Good vibes at this beach town open-air restaurant. Came for happy hour and ordered frozen mango and jalapeno margs, and chips and guac. Drinks were strong and snacks were good. Waiters took a while to come over to us, but it's such a relaxing environment that it doesn't really matter. Also, don't park in the street... we almost got towed.... More

We had an amazing time with friends and just us two as well.. Great selection of food and great sauces!! Laid back service and good reggae playing. We had heard the fish tacos were the jam, and had grilled and fried ones. You can't really get a bad thing there. Go upstairs to see the sunset too!

Had a blast! Food and drinks delicious. Great views from the crowd nest. 360* of jungle and beach. Staff is fantastic. If I traveling to Tulum, Mateos is a must!!

Wow, this place has great drinks! We stopped by around 2pm (I suppose it was technically lunch), and had some great fish tacos and drinks. The staff is friendly, they have free wifi...I loved it. The only downside is that they are right on a busy street, so conversation was interrupted by honking at times.

I read good references about this place and it met my expectations. Atmosphere is really nice, stuff is friendly. But food is the most important! Baja fish, shrimps tacos mmm... try their sauces (with tamarindo was my favourite). Craft beer is also interesting. We came there twice and i would come again and again. Recommended!

Although I walked by this place several times during my stay, I didn't eat here until my last day. It seemed a bit too hip and cool for solo traveler me. But some folks at my hotel recommended it, it was close and I was glad in the end that I gave it a try. Excellent fish tacos that come... More

my two friends and I were staying nearby at Zamas and we were nervous to eat at Mateos because it seemed a little touristy (has TVs and is really big). We shouldn't have felt that way at all because it was GREAT food with friendly waiters and awesome ambiance! Definitely stop by and have a meal here!!

Good food but I was very disappointed about the price of the the bottle of water 135 pesos around 8 dollars is abusive ... also their exchange rate : 16 per dollar. When is 20 currently. Is disappointing to be taking advantage like this.
