Visited here for lunch on a Monday, great location near the beaches of Tulum and service is good, with enjoyable food and good atmosphere playing old school American music. Recommend visiting dinner as it appears to get more packed.

We went here two nights in a row because it was a great atmosphere and good food. The bartender Francisco was super friendly and helpful and even helped us find the Ohio State game for us. Food was good and not too pricey (100-200 pesos a plate) and the guacamole appetizer was awesome!!! Free parking as well.

We arrived Sunday evening and our hotel restaurant was already closed. At the recommendation of our front desk we went to Mateo's. The drinks were tasty, the drinks were yummy and the service was on point. We ordered the steamed fish w veggies and rice/beans. Tasty and light but filling. The kids ordered a burger and the hubby had tacos.... More

Mateo works hard and takes pride in his establishment! We kept going back for the drinks and late night tacos. We also met one of our newest, very dear friends Paco at Mateos! He's working the bar closest to the street and is such a sweet, sweet person. We still keep in touch and can't wait to see Paco at... More

When we were in town, we had to make sure we caught a glimpse of our favorite college and NFL teams on Saturdays and Sundays. They do have a couple TVs that they had games on, just be sure to get there before your team starts so you can get your team on a tv. The food and drinks were... More

Excellent fish, as well as other, tacos (and good food in general) make this tacky roadside restaurant fun for an inexpensive meal in what was once a sleepy beachside town and is now becoming a haven for the those looking to escape from Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. As mentioned above the fish tacos must be tried and, if you... More

We didn't eat here- just went for drinks. We did have chips and guac, and it was really good and fresh. It's a funky space- many levels of what looks like Swiss Family Robinson's treehouse, with little fairy light twinkling throughout at night and no windows or walls to really speak of. Its a big place and its meant to... More

After biking to the ruins we were hot, thirsty and starving. We stopped here because they have a sign that claims they have the best fish tacos on earth!!!! Quite the claim is t it. So Jim is quite an expert when it comes to fish tacos so he thought he would give it a try. Needless to say they... More

This is a great restaurant with great food...it is festive and fun. Outdoor dining with lights and candles and interesting décor. We felt as if we were dining in the jungle! Great margarita's and attentive staff. Mateo's does not disappoint!

The beach road in Tulum is deceptively long and barren with patches of life and activity amongst the darkness. Mateo's is a focal point and a must visit on your trip. It's part sports bar, part hipster hangout, part sunset bar (the only one of its kind on the strip) but it doesn't feel overly or offputtingly trendy. It has... More
