great little restaurant on the way to Tulum

Seafood platter for two an O&L specialty for a reason. Grouper lobster shrimp and a nice medley of vegetables expertly grilled Fried plantains and frijoles negra accents Just a real nice meal and it works out to about sixteen dollar entres. Great value for the cost - I’ve spent so much more for food not a shadow of what these guys are doing Peg ordered pineapple ice cream with her chocolate cake. I was thinking where in the devil is pineapple ice cream going to come from. They fabricated it with pineapple from their own plantation. They grow their own produce and other products used in the restaurant and it comes through loud and clear in their menu selections The staff is pleasant and competent leaving little question of their professional interest in serving you a smashing meal I think you’ll like this place Lou and Peggy

Good food and service.

Ate dinner here on our last night in Mexico. Best food of our whole two week trip to the Yukatan. Service was very good. Wish we had have found this restaurant sooner so we could have visited another time. Pineapple ice cream (served in a pineapple) and coconut ice cream (served in a coconut) were divine.

Absolutely AMAZING food/people/atmosphere... had a vegan & gluten allergy in our group and they went above and beyond with helping find things that were accommodating. For us the seafood especially the HUGE shrimp and lobster was the highlight. Will be coming here everything we visit Mexico best restaurant here by far!!!

We had such a good time there last Valentine's Day we could not wait to go back this year. This year the ladies were not given a rose (very nice touch last year) also they did not offer the beet soup ☹ last year the owner told us she only makes & serves it on Valentine's Day. I decided to get the fresh fish which was so dry & had no flavor, I barely ate any if it. Service was so slow, the table next to us brought this to someone's attention and I guess she must have gone back to the kitchen to see what was wrong. Only then did our waiter come over and say how sorry he was. The mosquitos were so awful once it got dark (no fault of the restaurant) that we just went inside & asked for our bill to pay so we never got to tell our waiter about the bad food. I was really disappointed and not sure what happened

Hola En, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are very happy that you enjoyed Valentine's day last year and our amazing Beet Soup served in (2019) Valentine's Day. We regret to know that your visit this year (2020) Valentine's day, didn’t fulfill your expectations as last year did. Unfortunately, we had (2) servers and (1) hostess that had called in sick that day and we had a full house with several reservations. We were short-staffed on Valentine's Day (2020). We are very sorry for that, which was beyond our control. One of our kitchen staff was trying to help the front floor, bless her soal, and took it on her own to sit you down without notifying the floor staff. Unfortunately, she did not speak English and when the server realized you had been seated he immediately took care of your table. Normally at the entrance, the hostess gives you the rose and notifies the server you are seated on Valentines, but she was in the back seating other guests. I have spoken to the staff responsible for this and let her know they are not allowed to sit any guests or serve them, especially our English speaking guest, as she cannot serve them properly. We appreciate your feedback and we want to let you know that we are working very hard every day to improve the service at Oscar & Lalo’s and are very committed to making sure our diners experience is amazing, you can be sure we have followed up on the issues that you have mentioned and we are doing everything in our power to make sure it does not happen again. Thank you for your comments, they help us make the necessary changes and improvements that are needed. We hope you give us the opportunity to welcome you to Oscar & Lalo’s again and to amend our faults from this past Valentine's Day and appreciate your understanding and support. Amazing Food away from Tulum's craziness

We visited Oscar & Lalo on our last trip to Tulum just to get away from the touristic area where the craziness was happening and we were delighted by the awesome service and the quality of food and drink we were served. I ordered a passion fruit margarita and it was the best I've had. We also highly recommend the Spanish Octopus and the mixed ceviche. The scenery was awesome and the outside seating area was perfect for social distancing.

This was our third time at Oscar and Lalo when you arrive they bring you to the outside / backyard dinning patio which is awesome on my opinion with a light breeze, but we are here to talk about their food. The fresh coconut hart salad transporte you to places and flavors that you never knew existed and work together. The coconut shrimp with mango sauce it’s delicious. The shrimp bacon wrap, I had to order twice, that’s is how good it is. Yep I know what is so good about shrimp wrap on bacon, I guess you are going to have to try to discover the “secret”. The fresh fillet of fish with mango sauce it’s so refreshing. Their “tres leches” desert is moister and delicious. Couple miles before Tulum coming from Cancun, pay attention for the signs on the road and do yourself a favor, stop by and tell us if we are wrong.

Excellent Food, Drinks, & Exceptional Customer Service

The restaurant owners and their staff are very friendly. The food is amazing and their customer service is exceptional. This is a big restaurant with plenty of space to accommodate big groups or special events. I had my meals at Oscar & Lalo on a normal day (no special event) and also during a family wedding reception and both experiences were great. All of the foods I tried were excellent. They have a full bar if you enjoy cocktails or shots. When you visit this restaurant, you must try their Chaya! It’s a non-alcoholic green juice/drink made with different veggies and fruits that have healing properties (great for upset stomach). I’ve had Chaya at other restaurants in Tulum but nothing beats the one at Oscar & Lalo. Their Chaya just tastes heavenly. The only downside is that their parking area has very limited space but we never had an issue finding a parking spot during our visit. And if you ever have trouble finding a parking spot, I’m sure the restaurant owner or staff would be more than happy to help you.

We will share your comments with the Oscar & Lalo Team. Our front parking currently fits, up to (20) auto spaces. When we have events, we have additional parking we normally open up in the back. We are sorry we had the back area closed because we had construction going on. I assure you, next time you visit that we will have plenty of parking space and when it is busy we will open the back parking lot. We are also very happy you enjoyed all your meals and especially the fresh Chaya Grown on the Property, it is made with 100% organic ingredients we grow here at Oscar & Lalos. We get great enjoyment when we serve food and drink to our guests and they enjoy it, thank you for sharing ;-)! We hope you can visit us again in the near future!

*A Highly Recommended Experience!

Before I start I must say Virginia and Oscar are one of the most accommodating beings who will treat you like their family... They are super welcoming and very informative about the best places to check out in Tulum. This is my 2nd tour and restaurant experience with them and hasn’t been a let down. Traveling during the pandemic, all staffs were following protocols if wearing/providing masks and hand sanitizers around their restaurant. Let them know your concerns and they will definitely make you feel like home! To say the least, if you plan to travel you will not regret your time with them and their delicious food at the restaurant, Oscar & Lalo’s! Enjoy & stay safe!

Overpriced for Very Little

We visited this restaurant 3 years ago, decided to try it again and took our local friends for dinner New Year’s day. The menu is printed on some paper and changed greatly from our initial visit. It is very limited to what it use to be. The only fish they had was Tilapia which is farmed from China. On the Caribbean and no fresh fish ! My friend ordered Shrimp Ceviche which was $385 p and half the size of what you would get elsewhere at double the price. It didn’t taste as good as any other ceviche we have tried. He is Mexican from this area and we live here permanently so have some experience in tasting ceviche. Since they didn’t have any good fish I opted for the Shrimp Mango as did both our wives. They only had one chicken entre ! Very limited choices. At a cost of $385 p we got 5 shrimp with some rice and veggies , about half a cup of each ! They had 2 desserts on the menu, Chocolate cake and Flan, which they were out of at 6:30 in the evening and only 2 tables were occupied. We definitely will not return and will be telling our friends to avoid wasting their money here.

We stayed at Jashita in Solimon Bay, so Oscar and Lalo was so convenient. Went 3 times. Excellent ceviche, and diverse fish on the menu. By night 3 I wanted to try something different and had the Mayan pulled pork, so happy I went off the fish diet. Great value for top notch quality.

Nothing satisfies us more than to hear that your experience at Oscar & Lalo was amazing and that you came back (3) times while you were in town ;-)! We are glad to know that you were able to enjoy our restaurant (3) times on one holiday while staying at Jashita ;-)! We are so honored to have you as a repeat guest! I am very happy you liked the Pulled Pork! We choose the Pork Shoulder meat because it produces a very tender and succulent pulled pork. We soak the pork in fresh juices and Mayan spices and wrap the pork in Banana leaves and slowly roast for hours in the ground until it becomes meltingly tender. It is wrapped in Banana leaves and cooked in the ground for a sweet flavor. We do not use as much fat as the original recipe, we like to make a more meaty and healthier version of the pulled pork! We drove by Oscar and Lalo several times during our stay in the Akumal area. As it was my sister and brother in laws last night we decided to go there for supper. Damn, we should have come sooner! We sat in the garden area which was gorgeous. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. The food was outstanding, some of the best I have ever had in Mexico. We had Salads and shrimp cocktail for starters which were excellent. For entrees we had Shrimp Kabobs, Coconut shrimp, Shrimp in mango sauce .... anyone seeing a theme here ;) and a Seafood and Gaujillo pepper dish. They were all great, but Seafood and Gaujillo dish was amazing. Ingredients were very fresh with nice touches like pea sprouts, edible flowers, etc. It was pretty quiet, even for a Tuesday evening. I encourage anyone in the area (between Akumal and Tulum) to check this place out, you will not regret it. Obtw, desert was a grande piece of chocolate cake with cappuccinos.

The staff and I get very happy to see when our guests have enjoyed the dining experience! I see you like Shrimp! Lol, I am very happy you got to enjoy our fresh Jumbo Shrimp and the many different styles we prepare it. I am happy to hear you loved all the Jumbo Shrimp dishes. The Coconut used in our Coconut Shrimp is grown on our property. The Mango Salsal is made with fresh Mangos from our local ranch and the Guajillo Seafood Dish is one of my personal favorites, I love the sweet smokiness of the Guajillo Chilies used in this dish. Thank you very much for recommending us to friends family and future diners. Glad you liked our huge piece of Chocolate Cake and enjoyed our freshly ground Cappuccinos! Best food I’ve had in Tulum

Virginia is by far the best host around. Family owned, exquisite food, great atmosphere and reasonably priced. I would recommend Oscars & Lalo to any group that wants a great meal in an inviting atmosphere on the edge of the jungle.

I do not write many reviews but I have spent two weeks in Mexico eating at different restaurants and resorts. The service here was the best. They can speak both English and Spanish. Daniel, Lily, and Alfredo were our servers and we couldn’t have had a better experience. They were attentive and pleasant. And now the food.... it was delicious. We had the whole fish with mango sauce, Lalo special, seafood stuffed pablano pepper, and beef skirt steak. It is perfectly situated right off of the highway between playa del Carmen and Tulum. So if you are making your way down make sure to stop by here. It won’t disappoint.

Highly Recommend! Delish Food & Cool Vibe

Do not miss this restaurant. Virginia was amazing! My only wish was that we went earlier on our trip. Virginia has a scuba/snorkeling company & we definitely would have booked with her. She is kind, and so knowledgeable of the area. The food was beyond delish. We ordered the batters fish for the kids, shrimp tacos, Yucatán chicken & tomato/cucumber salad. Yummy!!! The entire restaurant is a nice vibe! Highly recommend!!!

If you want a quiet place near Tulum that is not so expensive this is the place. It sits un the jungle. Service was friendly and attentive. Kudos for excellent frozen margaritas. We enjoyed the platter that comes with shrimp, calamari, flank steak and chicken. Great place to unwind with friends.
