The cuisine at Oh Lala! Is a refreshing change from that of other, more conventional restaurants. Guests are treated like good old friends in a relaxing atmosphere coupled with personalized service and good food. Opened in January, 2011, by co-owners George and Mikaela, Oh Lala! Offers personalized experiences for its guests, ranging from a laidback sampling of hors d'oeuvres and wines, to a leisurely look at the full menu. "'Oh Lala!' is the epitome of elegance and sophistication. The intimate setting and dim lighting created a romantic atmosphere, perfect for a dinner for two. But the real highlight was the food. Every dish was an explosion of flavors, from the appetizing starters to the heavenly desserts. The French cuisine was authentic and of the highest quality. The service was equally remarkable, with attentive waiters who catered to our every need. 'Oh Lala!' exceeded our expectations and will definitely become one of our favorite restaurants in Playa del Carmen."

Wow Oh lala!! What a dinner we had last night! We were a table of 5 with a service dog and sat at the terrace, the weather was perfect just a little chilly but beautiful. From the moment we walked in they greeted us very kindly. We ordered several starters (maybe one too many) all of them came beautifully presented and really good, a cheese board with a tomato marmalade, a fig salad, a duck tacos, buratta salad all good! Then we ordered the main course, they have as a night special a lobster risotto that our friends order to share that was huge and good that they take the left overs home. Hubby order the octopus, my daughter the fillet mignon on wine sauce and I ordered a fungi trifoliate wow, wow all so delicious 😋 🤤 When dessert time came we were so full so we just ordered an apple tart and 2 tiramisu to share, also excellent!
We highly recommend Oh lala for a special occasion, not cheap but you will impress you guests, the food, the presentation, the ambiance but most all the service is incredibly good, I regret not to remember the names of our waiters but I thanks them, they were nice even with Penelope the dog 🐕!

Wow, what an experience! From the moment we sat down we felt like the most important people in the whole world! The staff focus on making your time with the best possible experience.
We chose a bottle of Corte Pavone and it was simply and wonderfully amazing.
Our appetizers were the shrimp/scallop skewers and the foie gras. The shrimp and scallops were cooked to perfection and the bit of spice in the sauce was really complimentary. The foie gras was served eloquently with fruit compliments and had beautiful bread to complete.
Our main course was the Filet in Red Wine sauce…. What an amazing flavour and the staff made sure it was done to perfection! The sauce is to die for, the mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables were the perfect pairing.
The two staff that attended us, Franco and Alex, were friendly and professional. They really made the night for us!
They have a lot of returning clientele - which we will be one of! - so recommend you make a reservation!!
We have never before experienced the combination of ambience, amazing food and top notch service in Playa del Carmen!

We had a delicious well crafted meal. Our expectations were low as PDC has numerous over priced restaurants serving mediocre food. However OOH LA LA was a pleasant surprise. We had the Spanish shrimp, tuna on bread, perfectly spiced Thai green curry and my teenager loved the grilled pulpo. The service was attentive, the space is calm and cozy , no dreadful pounding music. Given the standard of food I would try the other restaurants in the group.

First of all this review has nothing to do with the service or food. After many years living in Playa Del Carmen I do feel the quality is still good at this restaurant. But once I arrived and saw that the owner raised prices by 20% AND took away the local discount of 10% I was completely turned off. 500 pesos/almost 30 American dollars for some thai curry. Save your money and go somewhere else. My bill was over 200 American dollars for my wife and 10 year old child (1 drink a piece for my wife and I). While I wish George continued success, I would have hoped you treated your local customers better in our small town. Cheers!

We celebrated my brother's birthday and had a wonderful evening.
The atmosphere, service and food were perfect!
We were 5 people, we shared 3 appetizers, each delicious, the main dishes were delicious, as well as the complimentary dessert for the birthday boy and another dessert that we ordered. Everything was perfect and we will return!

Unlike many restaurants, Oh Lala has continued to impress. The food is amazing. Ambience, excellent. Our family had apps, drinks, entrees and desserts, all of highest quality and still only about $50pp. Our Go To restaurant in PDC!!

We go here every year for the past 9 years and especially make a point of going as my wife and I have birthdays in November. The hostess knew it was our birthdays but didn’t say anything about it - would have been nice. Instead she just had a dry sense of humour about her. She said that the special was an appetizer consisting of scallops, main course lobster risotto and dessert (cake). When the waiter took my order and I said I’d have the special he said ok you want the risotto? I said I wanted the whole thing and he didn’t know what that meant. I had to explain it. Halfway through the meal I was getting full so I said I would skip the dessert and I’m glad I did, my appetizer was $700 pesos (4 cheese scallop creations) and the main was $1500 pesos. That’s $100cdn for my appetizer and $150cdn for the risotto! Of course the price of the special wasn’t listed so I didn’t ask but what a terrible surprise. That’s insanely expensive even for fine dinning. My wife and I made the decision that Oh La La will no longer be on our list to visit when we come down to PDC each year. I recommend you try it, but do not order the special without asking the price. Ruined the experience.

The restaurant was hard to find. We tried about 3 different times to find it and weren’t successful.
I actually gave up even though the reviews were great. I really thought they closed shop.
My husband apparently didn’t want to give up since it had such good reviews. I called the restaurant and this time they answered “It does exist”
The restaurant is not very visible, it’s across the street from “Tendenza”garage.
We finally got there around 6pm, didn’t make reservation but we were seated right away. I would recommend to make reservations since it has limited seating, all the other tables had a reserved sign.
Very small restaurant, great ambiance and service was also good.
The food was very flavorful. Portion size were decent but not enough to share a meal.
A few things on the menu were at market price. I decided to go with the surf and turf - lobster tail and filet mignon, it was delicious. Filet Mignon was perfectly cooked to temperature, which I wouldn’t expect any less since it cost $1750.
Overall good experience, from reading the reviews we already knew the price point were going to be in the high end, nevertheless it was a positive experience.

We have been to Oh Lala several times over the years. When planning another trip to Playa this restaurant was on the top of our list to visit. We both ordered the filet with bearnaise sauce and they were both cooked perfectly. This was paired with lemon garlic shrimp and garlic skewers as a starter. Highly recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable delectable food experience.

We chose this restaurant after hearing raves about it from both guests at our hotel and a friend who has been there before. It exceeded our expectations!
The restaurant is quiet (two blocks from 5th Ave) with low level background music, has chic/smart decor, and has an intimate feeling. The Host was delightful.
There were four of us. Every dish they served was beautifully presented and extremely delicious. The dinner started with an amuse buche of delicate flat bread with herb goat cheese.
I had the skewered shrimp and scallops. See photo.
The shrimp and scallops were nestled together in a delicious garlic based sauce. Both cooked perfectly!
My entrée was the rack of lamb. See photo.
It is a half a rack and was cooked medium rare as I requested. It came with a lovely sauce. Another winner.
The other diners with me also agreed that their meals were also spectacular! The specialty of the house, soy and butter glazed fresh seared tuna, was a major hit as expressed by one dinner mate. He and his wife come to Playa Del Carmen often and now plan to revisit this restaurant regularly.
Everybody also loved their desserts.
We ordered a nice Mexican Syrah wine to wash it all down.
A very satisfying experience.

Service was really poor. Nice people, but the service was so bad, they bought the wrong plates out - and served one plate while the other waited
Sounds like an off night for them
Thought food was just well, meh. Tuna came out in slivers, my wife ordered well done and it was medium rare. Over salted - lamb was ordered medium rare and came out well done. I actually think they reversed the temp settings on our plate.
That happens and is all forgivable, but they left me there eating my plate whilst my wife was first given the wrong order, and they had to cook it again.
I don’t know if because it was a Monday the service staff was not at its best, but there was not effort at an apology, or any communication. For a restaurant rated so highly my expectations were high, and it came nowhere near meeting those
Ambiance was not what I expected, modern and bland. Didn’t feel like I was in Mexico. Could have been a white washed modern restaurant anywhere. The only thing that was possibly Romantic about it was they put a rose petal in our drinks and food

Outstanding fine dining in the heart of Playa del Carmen. Only 9 tables and reservations are difficult to obtain but well worth the effort. Attentive service from knowledgeable staff. Expertly prepared dishes presented beautifully. If you are anywhere in the vicinity make reservations, it’s well worth it for an excellent dining experience.

This review is way overdue. I have been going to Oh Lala for 8+ years and the experience is consistently amazing. The website says that Mikaela and George want you to feel at home in their restaurant and that is so true. I have been going to Oh Lala since back in the day when Mikaela was the hostess and we became friends. She has a way about her that just makes you feel welcomed and at home and special. She has selected staff members that have her sense of exceptional warmth and detail. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed, special, and part of the family. The food is out of this world. The filet and mashed potatoes are my absolute favorite. If you would like an incredible dining experience where you are treated like family and given the most amazing food Oh Lala is your perfect choice. I can’t wait to go back this coming May.
