It's a bit a tourist trap. The food (not fresh and rarely warm) and service are not great, the building is awfull and it's totally not authentic. Strange that they receive such a high score.

La Chaya Maya has two locations; one has the atmosphere of a typical restaurant, but the other has the atmosphere of old Merida! The menu is the same, in each, so I highly recommend the one with the old world charm. Located in an old...More

This is a must to experience Maya cookery. Yucatanean food is sort of Mexican, without much of the heat and more of the flavor. It is a busy place and a little tight, but totally worth a stop. .

We were recommended Chaya Maya by our guide and also the hotel. We booked the day before as there were people queuing to get a table. They have an English menu with pictures of the dishes. The mojitos were excellent as was the food and...More

Nice ambience, but tight seating. Expansive Maya cuisine menu, great location, good service. But we were disappointed in the food. Mucbil pollo (chicken and tamale dough cooked in banana with salsa) was very dry. The expensive seafood platter cooked in banana leaves was over cooked,...More

Local food and decor. Good food but mass produced. Safe bet to eating out. Lots of seating and close to downtown corridor.

The food, service and atmosphere here are excellent. It is a welcoming experience for people new to the area and clearly loved by the locals, as we were two of the only tourists at dinner

If you want food from the Yucatan this is the right place. Upbeat atmosphere in a cozy setting. The food is usually good. Sometimes a little long of a wait for the food and at times the service can be slow too. Say "hi" to...More

Especially liked the lady cooking tortillas live in the corner of the restaurant, so they were as fresh as at home!

Hello. We went there with my daughter who is a vegetarian. They managed to prepare some things that were quite good although there is no specific vegetarian menu
