Sunday afternoon visit, place was heaving with young and old, but squeezed onto a table in the courtyard no problem. Steadily worked our way through our orders of chicken wings and more, plus the tit-bits they bring for free, with a healthy dose of cocktails...and beers. "Barrel" beer can come in litre jam jars... so can the cocktails... you have been warned! Be prepared to stay all day. Or all night. Or both. :-)More

We stopped in for a beer. Their local beer was delicious. There was live music and tons of food and drink to chose from. It’s much bigger than it looks from outside! Definitely worth a stop to cool down with a drink.

Had a delicious vegetarian dish including the Yucatan ingredient chaya. The back garden area is so gorgeous; a beautiful setting.

Thank you to Neal, our Air BnB Superhost for the Cantina La Negrita suggestion! We tried to get into La Negrita the night before but caught it at closing. So we went the next day in the early afternoon to try it out. We ended...up staying for about 3-1/2 hours, we were having so much fun...and had ordered a little to eat and a lot drink. We really loved the idea that if you enter from the street at the corner swinging doors, you're walking into this little corner bar..then you're led through an opening a few steps further into this light and lively courtyard. We were seated at one of the smaller tables. There are many larger table that could handle bigger groups. Drink special was 2X Mojitos. My wife opted for these and did find them a little weak. She would eventually order the House Margarita and found it needed a little help too so a shot of Hurradura to strengthen it was ordered. I decided on the Trio Para Expertos mezcal flight and Cubetazo Artesanal, the bucket of five beers of your choosing. I can say in the aftermath this combo is a bad idea if you have anything else you intend to do afterward. I finished the three shots and three of the five beers and needed a nap. Be forewarned. The quality of the mezcals represented and the craft brews consumed were great, without question! It might be a better idea to share these with another person. The pile of fried grasshoppers presented with the flight was interesting. My wife wasn't game but I figured, what the heck! They were crunchy. As for eats, were were brought a variety of things to eat after we had ordered the Ceviche Mixto and an Ensalda. The bucket of beers included an order of fries. We had more food than we could consume but made a good effort. Everything was delicious. The prices are quite reasonable...before tip, our tab totaled $45US. The atmosphere throughout our stay was great. Everyone enjoying their time there. Younger people mostly but a few of us older folk too. Seemed to be a good mix of locals and tourists. The staff made it good for everyone. Our guy was Andy and he did a great job for us. As for cleanliness, the building including the courtyard area, the adjacent rooms and the bathrooms were all very clean and comfortable. There was always music playing in the background but towards the end of our stay, there was a fellow getting set up to play live music. Might have been fun to stay for that but there was this flight of mezcal..... We do recommend you put La Negrita high on your list of places to catch when you visit Merida. You're sure to have a good time!More

This place is fun and an essential experience in Merida. That being said, it's hard to get a table. But don't get discouraged and leave, find a server and get your name on a list, it's worth it! It's busy, but it's a fun energy...here, everyone is having a great time. Decent draft beer for all the Canadians! Go earlier to mid afternoon for best chance at a table.More

I love it there to have lunch or some drinks. Because of the atmosphere and mexican audience you are really feeling you are in Mexico. That's not the case on every place in Merida

I have been to this traditional cantina for a few years now, and I always have a lot of fun. I’ve met really nice people while I’m there, and the happy hours are great. It never grows old.

You might end up at this place because it's the popular one, but if it's only 2 of you be aware that you might be "asked" (almost forced) to share a table with random people. Also, food is not great (it lacks taste and it...can be quite oily) . I guess it's better to reserve beforehand, and tell them theres going to be "only two persons" .More

Only during the day! Entertainment is loud and if it is crowded may be inappropriate at night.
