Traditional Yucatan food

A very traditional Mayan restaurant that possibly has the most correct Mayan food in the area. It's located in the historical section of Merida near the square. I have now had a half dozen meals there and I'm still learning the dish's, but everything has been incredible good. All the girls are... read more

We visited this place on our first day in Merida and were initially impressed. Nice ladies serving and fast delivery of food to the table, but after tasting other restaurants we realise that this food was a bit bland and there are definitely nicer options out there for a similar price. It is often pushed by hotels and hostels so... More

Excellent place, is on Merida downtown, a little bit crowdy, have to wait on line for a place to seat, but after all nice place, excellent service, fair prices, try lima soup is a must.

After a major disappointment at a local high traffic outdoor eatery in Merida we were pleased with the food at Chaya, Sure it is a bit touristy but lots of locals eat there and they employ a ton of people...so why not support them. The second time we wanted a light lunch and the expectations were exceeded for price and... More

Is just one of the most emblematic restaurant in the city, just show the traditional food that prehispanic people used to eat, some cochinita pibil, empandas de cazón, chaya water, some handcrafted bear called Ceiba, you can smell the fresh yeast and grains, not to expensive and the services is just nice.

Lonely Planet and even our hostel recommended us this place. Only the place and staff were nice. We were so disappointed by the food, it was our worst experience of The Yucatan road trip we had. Try to find another place!

Touristy Local food, open long hours. Staff were pleasant enough. Not a destination but a good place to stop for lunch or breakfast while sightseeing.

this restaurant was a little bit disappointing. Very fancy, the interior was very pretty with tables circling a pretty patio. It was highly rated as a place to get 'authentic' Mayan cuisine, and not cheap street food either. Food was so-so, waitstaff seemed bored and uninterested. Chaya is a vegetable, there was not much to it. Perhaps I was there... More
