For our final evening on Isla Mujeres, we chose the quaint Sunset Grill, a decision that proved to be one of the highlights of our trip. Nestled along the quiet bayside, this gem offers a harmonious blend of bold Mexican flavors and coastal ingredients.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the gracious owner, Felipe, and his charming wife, Margarita, whose hospitality made us feel instantly at home. The ambiance was intimate and relaxed, providing the perfect backdrop for the evening.
The dinner was a culinary delight, each dish meticulously prepared and bursting with flavor. Knowing we were celebrating a birthday, Felipe and Margarita went above and beyond to arrange a decadent chocolate cheesecake that was nothing short of spectacular.
For those seeking a lovely dinner experience with beautiful views, Sunset Grill is a must-visit destination on your next trip to the island.

We visited the Sunset Grill for one of their chartered sunset cruises, where we were served a delicious tray of appetizers from the restaurant. The fresh fish was amazing. It was a wonderful trip! After the cruise, we sat on their gorgeous patio area and watched the sunset and ate delicious desserts and drank cappuccino. The owners are wonderful and it was a pleasure meeting their family!

We went to the Sunset Grill in Isla Mujeres expecting a water front dining experience with a great view of the sunset. I am not one to write a negative review but our experience deserves a review. We entered the restaurant and were greeted by some very loud children with their toys spread all over the entrance area. We decided to leave but were assured by the hostess that she would manage the noise level and activity of the young children. There were only 4 tables outside with no sunset view because the view was blocked by the large building next to the "restaurant". The children ran wild around our table and the noise from the corn hole tournament next door eliminated any possibility of a romantic dining experience. My husband enjoyed his paella. My coconut shrimp was good but the rice was cold and required a knife to cut because it was so stiff. We saw three groups enter the restaurant and leave because of no sunset and lack of a professional restaurant. I wish Sunset Grill in Isla Mujeres the best but we will not be a repeat customer.

One of the best dining experiences of my life (no exaggeration). My wife and I - celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary - had been on the island for several nights and had struck out dining-wise for three nights in a row. On our fourth and final night - and on a whim - we found Sunset Grill and were treated to an enchanting evening of superb food, service and atmosphere. The proprietors showed their love of the island and food in their gracious hospitality and sumptuous menu.

We live on Isla Mujeres and have a few spots that we always pick when we go out to eat. We had never tried Sunset Grill. Friends came to visit and we let them choose the restaurants. The one they chose for our farewell dinner was Sunset Grill. All I can say is we added a new favorite to our list. The sunset at the sea side table was perfect. If you're looking for a place to catch the Caribbean sunset... this is it! The owner is European and provides first class service. The food, from apps to desert, was excellent. The wine list is good and the mixed drink delicious. The prices are surprisingly budget friendly. Look for this gem if you want to get away from the more hectic Hildago scene. It's on the Cancun side heading south from the ferry towards Chedraui. Keep going until you pass the big lot where the cars and trucks wait for the car ferry. It's set back from the road, so keep an eye out. Make reservations. Enjoy!

My wife and I took the private sunset cruise on the owners 38’ sail boat. The price included bottle of wine, beer, water and 3 different appetizers for 2.
What a magical sunset cruise it was. Trip starts from the dock behind the restaurant and brings you back after sunset. Price was very reasonable and we will remember it always.
We came back for dinner 2 nights later and was not disappointed. We had the black grouper and the fake rabbit (an old family recipe of meet loaf) and a bowel of seafood chowder. All of the food was fantastic. We have had grouper before but never black (skin) grouper. The fish is white and very thick the sauce was buttery and unbelievably rick and delicious.
The bacon wrapped tempura shrimp were a treat for an appetizer. And the house wines are very good.
Reasonably priced delicious oh I almost forgot the view at sunset is nice too from the restaurant or the boat.
Don’t miss this one.

We selected Sunset Grill based on the reviews. We were so disappointed. The food was the worse food we had on the island the entire 2 weeks we were there. The pasta my husband ordered tasted like something from a box. My coconut shrimp was bland and rubbery. This meal was such as waste of money when there are so many other good options on the island. We recommend you find somewhere else to eat.

It's named correctly. The sunsets here are amazing. But it doesn't stop there.
We spent two weeks on Isla and the Sunset Grill remains one of our favorite memories. It's really easy to find and for some reason, wasn't crowded when we gave it a try.
I had the paella and it was as good as I had ever had anywhere. The rice was nice and crispy at the bottom of the pan, everything was cooked to perfection - even the mussels. Instead of andouille sausage, they use chorizo and it's similar yet better in flavor. My wife had baked organic chicken, which seemed like a boring menu choice but was not. The chicken was prepared perfectly, tender and juicy, with a wonderful butter sauce and cranberries.
I'm assuming that it can be buggy here since they bring bug spray to your table with your drinks, but with a good fan at our table, we had no issues at all. Another larger table did seem to have an issue so they were moved indoors with no hesitation from the staff.
It's a really great place with a family-run, family-owned feel. Prices are great for the quality. I highly recommend trying it out.

After seeing a #foodrecommendations for Sunset Grill, we tried it and it was absolutely the best ever seafood stew and seafood paella I’ve had in a restaurant! The seafood stew, a very hardy chowder, tasted delicious and definitely didn’t scrimp on seafood! So good! The paella had that perfect flavour and “crust” under the rice. Delicious! Also had the lobster quesadilla which was fabulous. Topped off with an amazing key lime pie. We were also so impressed with Felipe who was so welcoming and cared about the food he was serving. Such a family man too! Oh I can’t forget to mention the live music! A girl on keyboards singing great songs and getting us to sing along! It was a great meal and a great experience! Highly recommend!

I surprised my husband with the private sunset cruise Sunset Grill offers and it was the absolute highlight of our trip. Felipe was a wonderful host and captain, very kind and very knowledgeable. And the food!!!! We were given appetizers and wine on the boat (sidebar: the apps were presented to us upon arrival, it was such a nice presentation.) The apps were SO GOOD, truly some of the best, if not the best food we had our entire trip. Unfortunately, we were not able to eat at the restaurant, we were still full from lunch. But when we go back, we will be going straight to Sunset Grill for dinner!

We ended our trip on Isla Mujeres on a private sunset sailing cruise with Sunset Grill. What a beautiful evening! Thank you to Felipe and team for making the evening so memorable. We all enjoyed the ceviche, chicken skewers and bruschetta along with the wine and beer. The sunset was gorgeous. Next time we are on the island we will definitely come back and enjoy a meal at your restaurant. Thanks again!

We discovered this restaurant walking along the main road and Isla Mujeres. Set to the south of the main tourist area. About a 15-minute walk from the ferry dock. This delicious little restaurant was open one Sunday night and we were hungry. We went in and we're seated outside in a beautiful little Terrace area. There was another party of about 10 people and I don't believe that they had had a reservation previous. Because of covid-19 restrictions there may not have been as many cooks and servers working to accommodate such a large group. The group appeared to be pretty rude for the little bit of a slower service for them. When we were seated the owner came out and explained that because there was a large group to be served before us there might be a bit of a wait. We were perfectly happy to just enjoy the peaceful warm air and our bread while we waited. It was worth the wait. The food was absolutely delicious. The shrimp you could tell was local and caught fresh. Our server was kind caring and a tentative. I cannot wait to go back.

We walk here from the boutique hotel we stay at every year on Isla Mujeres. This place has great seafood, it's generally so hard to choose what my husband and I want that we get 3 entrees and share! Love their lobster. Also love the ceviche! Very homey atmosphere, the owners/family make it seem almost like you are just friends coming over for dinner.

Our absolute favorite place to eat on the island!! My wife and I eat here numerous times every time we visit the island! We've tried most of what is on their menu, and everything has been fabulous. We always recommend it to other travelers, and they always thank us and rave about how good it is. Felipe and Margarita are 2 of our favorite people on the island. They always make us feel right at home. We always go sailing with Felipe as well, and it is very enjoyable. We 100% recommend the food, drinks, and the sunset cruise on the yacht. For a bit of a twist, try the Sunset Long Island Tea. It's delicious! It's not on the menu, so you'll have to ask for it ;)
