We did not visit Magenta itself but instead stayed upstairs in the wonderful Airbnb property that I believe is owned by the same person. The space was great! Large with lots of nice touches that made us very comfortable during our stay. Top marks!
Tried it out based on great TA reviews and have no idea how this place is rated so well.
I feel bad writing something negative because the owner seemed nice
The ambiance is different to say the least
But the patio is nice (that’s the...two stars)
To start things off they were obviously not ready to open when we arrived at 7:20pm
That was ok.. we weren’t in a hurry
We left and came back and were seated after another 15-20 min
From there it was downhill
The drinks were awful
Tried margaritas and a mojito
Both were unbalanced and barely palatable
Asked for Stella which was on the menu
Didn’t have that
Asked for dos xx
The bartender pulled out one bottle of Medella beer and said that was the only bottle that was actually cold?!
Well at least it tasted better than the mixed drinks
The food was mediocre at best
One app was pretty good
Other than that the pizza was bland
We are because we were starving
The service was horrible
We were the only table there!
I had to go inside twice
Once to ask about another drink
The second time to ask for the check
Both times out server was standing around staring at the wall so I’m not sure why we weren’t given more attention
Sorry guys we will not return
And can not recommend at all!More
Unfortunately, the gorgeous back patio with giant tree (ancient and sacred to Mayans), mural and outdoor pizza oven, has been severed from the front and closed. The only thing currently open, is the tiny part in the front, and mainly coffee and snacks. That's still...charming, and probably the only part many people noticed in the past, but it's a shame lovely peaceful back part is no longer accessible. I prefer not to sit next to a noisy street. I also miss the fresh marmalades (passion fruit, etc).
The art gallery in the middle, was closed the afternoon I went there.
Of course the new owner should be given a chance. I just thought I should mention the significant change if people are interested in the previous pizza, and back patio.More
When we were traveling in Cozumel, we rented an Airbnb on top of the Magenta. In one night, while walking back to our Airbnb, we heard some local music coming from the bar and we went in to check it out. Much to my delight,...I was glad we stepped in. If you want good local music, artsy decorations, and cold drinks, this is the place. The owner (also our Airbnb host) was extremely friendly, we got to meet some of her friends who moved to this island from all corners of the world, and some locals who frequent the bar. If you are even in the island, this is the place to check it out!More
they have very interesting bands playing good music. young local folks get together to create a productive community. well-done. it's not a restaurant nor a bar. it's more than that, a culture center where they serve food and drinks to finance the culture center-my understanding-
We decided to grab a quick breakfast here before heading out into the sea for some snorkeling and we absolutely loved the place! Everything is organic and home-made and the atmosphere is very peaceful. The owners are passionate and welcome everyone with open arms and...warm hearts.
But above all the food was delicious! So if you are looking for a peaceful and cute place to have breakfast in with fair prices and away from the busy center, then this is your place!
My first visit last week I met the owners father from Italy. We had a great chat - I spoke no Italian and he spoke no English. It was great fun.
Today I cam back to explore doing something with the Mayor and the Eagle...and the Condor Ceremony. Well, something might happen - who knows.
But if you are in Cozumel and want a treat - the Veggie Lasagna made with Michales mothers Itlaian recipe this is a mustMore
