We had breakfast at La Candella while staying just around the corner from their location. The food and service were very good. Prices are fair.

I love this place. However much I love their chorizo and eggs, I decided to have their Cubano this time. That is another favorite. This is a quaint little place and great for people watching. I highly recommend this place.

I really enjoy this place. It’s authentic and the food and staff are great. It’s about a block and a half from the beach front but away from the hustle and bustle of the plaza area.

We get off the plane from Minnesota and drive straight to La Candela, where Saul, the waiter who has been there nearly forever, takes one look at us and says, "A mojito and plantanos fritos!" Right you are, Saul! In addition to the aforementioned mojito...and platanos fritos (Yes, I do have them for breakfast sometimes. When I am on vacation, I want to take advantage of things not on Minnesota menus). The daily specials usually include a chicken dish, a pork dish, a beef dish and something veggie. You choose two sides, you get a choice of two soups of the day, and jamaica included in the $5-6 dollar main course. My very favorite lunch may be the pork tacos. While I have not personally tried the shrimp fajitas, I've been there with the next table was simultaneously moaning in ecstasy and exclaiming with joy at how great they are. When I'm not having platanos fritos for breakfast, I love their chilaquiles rojos with chicken. The chicken is a fresh off the grill seared chicken breast on top of the chilaquiles instead of the ususal stewed chicken mixed in. Delicious! The last week of our trip, our daughter and 18 month old grandson were with us. La Candela has sturdy high chairs, and Saul was very attentive. There were many options that were child friendly--fruit salad, French toast, pancakes, and tacos, to name a few, although there is not a specific children's menu. La Candela closes at 5:00 p.m. Friends pick up carry-out to take home for dinner later. Late afternoon the place is filled with locals; earlier in the day there are a few more tourists.More

Food is a five, service not so much. Noticed the wait only because we had a little guy with us and his patience was amazing, but it was straining, particularly when several tables filled after we came and were served well before we were. That...said, the food was outstanding. Cuban sandwich was amazing and the chicken fajitas hot and flavorful. The cooked onions were the highlight. The pork tacos were on the appetizer menu but were a full meal size. Drinks were reasonably priced and well made. Guacamole definitely at the top of the guacamole rating game in Cozumel area. We’d go back but maybe without the little guy.More

We eat here about 3 or 4 times a week when we are on Cozumel. Everything is good. The daily specials are great and the staff is helpful and attentive. My favorite is pork tacos. My wife likes to have a majito along with platos...fritos, which are delicious. They close at 5 so we usually eat breakfast or lunch here.More

Just as amazing as the first time I came here, consistently delicious! Portions are big and prices cannot be beat. This is a local spot where you won’t find many tourists (which to me is a HUGE plus). Staff is attentive, friendly and speak both...English and Spanish. I will be eating here more than once during my trip for sure. I love the soups here. They accept credit cards too!More

Just a couple blocks inland, we stumbled upon La Candela while looking for lunch away from the main tourist area. Thatched roof, open air seating, quick service. I liked the chicken fajitas, especially the well cooked onions. Pretty solid guacamole, although I would have preferred...it with more bite to it. We tried both the strawberry and lime margaritas - lime was better. 4 of us ate for $55 US, with drinks. Paid with credit card, plus cash tip. None of us speaks fluent Spanish, but it wasn't a problem as waiter spoke English.More

Our "go to" restaurant for lunch when we come to Cozumel - which we have been doing for over 20 years. Try the Fish La Candela. Fantastico!
