A café in the charming Cerrillo barrio, a little outside the hectic centre of town. It shares with neighbouring businesses a lovely old internal courtyard with outdoor seating. Artisanal coffee, omelettes, fruit bowls: all nicely prepared. Service on my visit was, however, rather unsmiling.

While I used to be a loyal patron of this restaurant during my visits to San Cristobal, my recent experience has completely altered my perception. Despite the enticing food and charming terrace, the abysmal behavior of the staff has left me with no desire to...return. During my last visit, a series of unfortunate events unfolded. First, my coffee was spilled without any attempt to make amends. Then, I had to repeatedly request a fork for my main dish, only to receive one after I was well into my meal. The true low point was the attitude of our waiter, Alice, who not only tossed the forks on the table but treated my partner with disrespect. When we escalated the matter to the manager, Alice's mockery of our concerns was the final straw. This level of unprofessionalism is inexcusable, overshadowing any positives this restaurant may offer. I am unequivocally severing ties with this establishment and cannot recommend it to others. The service we encountered was not just rude—it was degrading. This experience has left a sour taste that even the best food cannot mask.More

Wandering the streets of San Cristobal, looking for a specific place without success, we "settled" on Frontera. It was an amazingly happy accident! This is a super busy place. Clearly, a local favorite! Be prepared to wait, but (vale la pena), but it is worth...it. The coffee was exceptional! The food was equally as good. I would highly recommend the "Enfrijoladas de Huevos". I could eat them every day! Perfectly delicious! I think I will return today for a second helping. Like I said, the place is really busy, which may be the reason that the staff is less than attentive and engaged. But, truth be told, I have found most of the people of San Cristobal to be a bit aloof... Could just be their way...More

Read good reviews about the selection of coffees and breakfast so was keen to check this place out and it did not disappoint. One of the best cappuccino’s I’ve had, so smooth with a real caramel flavour. We ordered the hot cakes with eggs &...bacon, and the fruit with yoghurt and granola and 2 juices. All fantastic. Lovely setting to sit outside in the courtyard too.More

The coffee and the food at Frontera are excellent. The service is a little shaky at times. Both visits resulted in our not receiving what we ordered and still being charged for it until we pointed out the mistake. Still, I love the place and...will definitely return whenever I'm in town.More

Simple: lovely outdoor seating courtyard, several serving styles of delicious, local coffees (chemex, espresso, press, and others), delicious breakfast and desserts, and truly wonderful staff. There's really no reason not to while the mornings away in San Cristóbal anyplace else.

Frontera is perfect for coffee and breakfast. They have a comfortable indoor dining area and a beautiful garden/terrace area. The hot chocolate is pretty good too. Def try the banana pancakes if you are there for breakfast!

I have been seeking for the best coffee in town and I can say Frontera has quite a remarkable collection of coffee beans. It is hard to find an excellent coffee in a city in which supposedly every single cup is good, Frontera has amazed...my paladar. You must go if you are in town. I don't know anything about their food , but who cares about that(it is a specialty coffee shop not a Michelin restaurant). Just ask for a double espresso and be happy !More

First experience: asked and received an English menu, and received excellent food. Second experience was told from young staff member (who spoke no English) there was no English menu. Ummmm...ok. Too bad because the courtyard ambience with great wifi is inviting. Teenage staff who don’t...care - is not.More

This restaurant is in a charming old building near the center of town. Service is slow enough that you don't feel pressured to end your conversation with your friends quickly. The breakfast is the usual stupendous and ample Mexican one with many choices, fresh fruit...and fresh fruit juice. However, the same can be found cheaper in many other places. Mexican breakfast rarely fails to please.More
