The food was exquisite and the tuna especially delicious. The atmosphere and service met our expectations. I highly recommend this restaurant

It was a quiet Wednesday night. Nice ambience. The food was very good. The service was uneven. The server couldn’t tell me whether charge was accepted when I held out my card. The next staff person was quite blunt in saying no despite no signs...to contrary.More
La Biznaga has been one of our regulars since it opened on Garcia Vigil many moons ago. We did stop going for a while when we didn't care for the less-than-attentive service, but then began again I suppose because the food was always right on,...drinks good and strong, etc. In the face of covid it closed and then reopened at a different location, so that's where we found it earlier this month. Rather than a single large room as before, it now has 3 - 4 smaller dining areas making for a quieter and more intimate dining experience. Most of the menu items are as before, thankfully. Perhaps all of them, but I just gravitated to my old favourites.More
We went for a small business lunch, and had good food: duck adobada tacos and ribs, a wonderful salad, and all of this followed up with fantastic chocolate mouse desert drizzled with guava sauce; my friend had an excellent flan. The wait person was not...friendly at all, nothing, zero, more like a librarian. After the bill came we needed to pay with a credit card and was then told they don't yet accept credit cards. They might have a good reason, but it's 2021; The waitperson could have advised us this BEFORE ordering, OR at least when she brought the bill....frustrating.More
My friend and I went for lunch; the food was good, and the desserts were top notch. The owner was very nice but the wait person was ill-matched for working with customers, as in non/friendly.
They recently relocated from street Garcia Vigil to near el Llano park. Still delicious food with Oaxacan dishes and ingredientes. Nice seleccion of drink, coctels, beer and mezcal. Give it a try. Been going for several years now. Recommeded.
While we dearly miss the Biznaga at its former location on Garcia Vigil, we're glad that it still exists, although in a pared down versión. The sopa suave still is a welcome comfort food option, and the ojo rojo (beer with a spicy clamato mixture)...is as refreshing as always. There are some old favorites as well as new choices on the menu. Walk through the restaurant to get to the quiet tables on the back patio with a nice view of the tranquil garden at the Oaxaca Cultural Institute.More
It seems locals and visitors alike were devastated when Biznaga disappeared at its perennial location on Garcia Vigil. The pandemic has hit Oaxaca restaurants and bars hard and Biznaga's large space in the heavily trafficked tourist corridor just couldn't support the reduction in business. Fortunately,...it has reopened in a very different setting on Avenida Juarez, adjacent to the Instituto Cultural Oaxaca. The new address is 907 Ave Benito Juárez. Phone number 951.516.1800. There are a few tables outside in the front of the building, but we prefer to dine outside in the back area, where there is a beautiful view of the Institute's lovely grounds and gardens through a large wrought iron arch. There are no umbrellas yet, so best to arrive after 3:00 pm to avoid the afternoon sun. There are some changes to the menu but new offerings are interesting and done well; they seem to come in a bowl rather than on a flat plate. Our favorite soup choice, the Sopa Suave, is still the world's most comforting comfort food. Fried battered fish tacos are new and very tasty, especially with my favorite beer mix, the Ojo Rojo. There's a QR code menu on the table but you can request a paper menu if QR codes elude you. The standard Covid safety procedures are followed and the young waitress who has served us on several occasions is very eager to please and responsive, a very welcome change as service in the old Biznaga could be challenging and frustrating at times. There will eventually be table service (and a Biznaga type bar) in more of the interior rooms as the pandemic lightens, but right now it's quite pleasant and safer to eat outside, looking into the Institute's vast green space. Breakfast/brunch is now served on Sundays until 1:00 pm. Check the website for current hours.More
there are many choices in Oaxaca but we ended up back here a couple of times. Just easy, good menu, we liked the beer choices, comfortable setting courtyard with open air. Good staff. I wish I could remember all the things we tried here, there...were quite a few and they were all good. I do remember the watercress salad as being particularly satisfying since fresh vegetables are not overly abundent in Oaxaca, cevishe was great, the coconut flan was a favorite.More
The menu was very interesting with unusual offerings. However the results were disappointing. Flavors were ordinary without any punch. Smoked marlin wasn’t smoky at all, tasted stale. Pork was undistinguished. Soup with noodles was weird. Service was indifferent. Hard to judge a place by three...dishes but there was nothing here to encourage a return.More
Soups, salads and deli food: great deals! Rest of the menu depends of what you order, but in general a great experience. Expect to stay at least a couple of hours in every visit, they talk serous when they said “Slow Food”
This is a great location and I had a delicious dish of mole tamarind but everything else ruined the meal and I will never set foot in this place again. The manager was present when it became clear that the service staff have no authority...to provide good customer service. The music was too loud to hear what others were saying. When we asked to have it turned down, the staff said the manager was there and they couldn't do anything. It's clear there are not enough staff so the service is very poor. I received my entree when my lunch partner received her soup. Then her entree was not delivered for a long time and she had ordered the meal of the day, which was a stew so it should have been delivered. I had asked for separate bills for our lunch and they said that is not possible.More
This is a great restaurant. I was crazing a vegetarian dinner salad and they delivered. YUM! It was fresh, large and delicious.
After days of lovely meals and excellent service in Oaxaca, this was a frustrating disappointment. Severs lack training and just don’t care. Our orders were served randomly, one main course completely forgotten. Salmon was served raw; when questioned the server said we’d ordered it wrong....We were never asked about drink refills or dessert. Our table wasn’t cleared. A 45 minute wait for the check capped it off. There is no excuse for this waste of a lovely space. Don’t bother.More
We found the lovely ambiance in the courtyard and strong, reasonably priced margaritas (which we’ll count as a plus) offset by service which was indifferent at best to rude by one server. The entrees we ordered —Longo Dorado (Mahi Mahi) with Shiitake and Mixteca (Turkey...with blackberry mole) were conceptually interesting but both fish and turkey seemed dry. The menu advertised a 5% discount for paying with cash vs. credit card but in our case this was not applied up front, but only when we pointed this out to our server and the cashier.More
