We had a reservation at Los Danzantes but to my shock the restaurant turned out to be shut when we arrived. Luckily our hotel recommended Pitiona instead and I am so glad they did. Food is super tasty and original. It combines European and Mexican flavours - their soup (signature dish) was delicious and I personally recommend the fish with... More

This is the perfect translation from the traditional food from Oaxaca region to the modernness of the 21. century. The chef has been outside the country in Spain with the famous restaurant Bully which is one of the best of the world. So you can imagine what kind of taste you will find with this mixture of two cultures.

A perfect fusion of traditional food from the region with a touch of modernness. Have to order tacos de lechón, molotes, ensalada ahumada, ceviche con sandia, rissoto con escamoles. Excellent mixology with mezcal

If you are a foodie, then eat here. Have the tasting menu. It is a huge bargain by US standards and as interesting and delicious as just about anything I have had in the US outside of the French Laundry (and similar restaurants). We didn't like every single course that our party got (one was non-dairy and they did a... More

Pitiona was a highly anticipated reservation. I am celiac (gluten free) and during the booking, we noted this. We received a confirmation acknowledging that this would be no problem. When we arrived, we confirmed this (all in Spanish, so no translation issues) and the server again told us that it was no problem and everything in the 9 course menu... More

I had lunch at Pitiona and was very pleased with the meal. I ordered a la carte a starter of raw fish," tiraditos", the smoked salad, "ensalada ahumada", and the trout with squash tendrils. The ensalada ahumada and trucha were exceptional. The restaurant has a nice atomosphere near Santo Domingo. It is pricey by Mexican standards but worth it.

Best restaurant by far in Oaxaca. After dining at Casa Oaxaca, Origen, a couple of hotels and other well rated restaurants,we were sorry we only went to Pitiona on our last day in Oaxaca. The food, presentation, and service were excellent. The quality of the ingredients used, flavors and creativity were outstanding. We had the gorditas, pork terrine with bean... More

Amongst all the restaurants we tried, Pitiona came last. The food seemed overwrought and pretentious. We tried 6 tiempos, and some a al carte items. Sopa de fideos was only a step above a sopa maggi. The food was presented very nicely but lacked substance in some dishes. The hot chocolate was good. The mango mezcal cocktail was delicious.

After reading so many great reviews, we were incredibly excited to dine at Pitiona (or La Pitiona - I believe these are the same place but for some reason there are two listings in trip advisor with the same address). We figured that with an endorsement from Rick Bayless and four or five other online sources it would have to... More

On business in Mexico our hosts suggested this restaurant. A native of Oaxaca came with us and highly recommended it. We had several appetizers instead of a full dinner and it was perfect. They were all delicious. The restaurant even gave us an appetizer on the house and it was amazing. One appetizer was made from a young pig...it was... More
