Ambitious restaurant architecture but (strangely) with dyed-napkin lampshades and a mixed collection of paintings. Complex dishes with some hits and some misses. Shrimp ceviche was undercooked—ie, not sliced thin enough or not marinated long enough—but with good shrimp flavor. Grilled shrimp looked like a better...More

After a week in the area, we were getting tired of the same old moles (as good as they are) and we were delighted to find this place, using traditional ingredients but in new ways. This was our favorite meal in Oaxaca, even beating out,...More

Half empty restaurant, although with one week reservation, they took us to a smoking area without asking. We asked to change table (table of 2) and it took 45 minutes to have an "empty table" in a hall which was almost empty already. Service was...More

Of all the fancy and not-so-fancy restaurants we tried in Oaxaca, Pitiona was by far-and-away the best. Only a pedestrian appetizer of ceviche of octopus and pork that badly needed both salt and lime juice keeps me from giving Pitiona a five dot rating. Without...More

This was only disappointment we had in Oaxaca, which is a city known for its great food. It is an upscale restaurant, but the space itself is cold and uninviting. The food is beautifully displayed and very good, but servings are sparce. If you order...More

We had a memorable 7 course meal at Pitonia. One of the higher end restaurants, but even then a good value, with a quiet, elegant ambience and delicious food. We'd recommend it for a special meal in Oaxaca. Located close to Santo Domingo.More

Description
Pitiona began with a clear vision: to recuperate the flavors of Oaxacan cuisine from the coast, the Mixtec region and the valley, but with a new twist, of the spoon so to speak, to what is traditional so that our family recipes would not be lost. In an effort to respect, care for and promote our country, all of our products—in and out of the kitchen—are Mexican: from the olive oil to the sea salt and unrefined sugar, from the wine to the mescal. Not only do we surprise you with our cuisine, we also do so with the restaurant’s ambience. That is why Oaxacan artists have made exclusive work to be admired here: Adan Paredes’ ceramics dazzle the walls and Omar Hernandez’s work beautifies our tables. You can also contemplate the art of other Oaxacan artists on a continual basis thanks to the Quetzalli Gallery’s rotating exhibitions.
