We went twice for dinner during our stay in Oaxaca. After a somewhat bland meal at casa Oaxaca, we found the food at la Teca to be much more flavorful. It is a simple, not ostentatious restaurant with honest home style cooking. Great stuffed dried chiles, delicious molotes de platano and wonderful black mole.

Seven of us admitted foodies ate at La Teca in the delightful patio garden. After drink orders, our waiter suggested (brilliantly) that we try a luncheon tasting menu, e.g. a sampling menu of their most authentic, signature dishes. We loved everything, and most especially the chicken tamales, mole with pork, and granaches. There were no "misses". We'd say this was... More

I first visited La Teca 20 years ago- when the tables were in the garage, and you were welcomed with a copa of mezcal. Now you are welcomed by a host outside the garage, who escorts you through a family type living room into seating in a beautiful outdoor patio, weather permitting. There are still tables in the garage. The... More

This restaurant specializes in food from the Isthmus of Oaxaca. The food was absolutely amazing. It is very small. The waitstaff were excellent. Can't say enough to praise this place!

This lovely place is mostly a house patio where you will feel at home. The cooking is real food from Oaxaca, with local and seasonal ingredients. They have their own mezcal too! You can try the fixed menu or going a la carte.

Must stop here if you are after authentic tradition food from the Istmo de Tehuantepec. Try the tamal for a start and then the istemeño platter. They're both outstanding!

La Teca (Violetes 200A, Colonia Reforma, Oaxaca, Mexico, tel. 951-515-0563) There was a review in Arrecife Magazine and many people recommended it. The owner and cook is de Deianira Aquino. We had a very good meal with the best “mole negro” we have eaten in Oaxaca. We sat in the garden and we were the only customers. It was not... More

Traditional food from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, all made when you order, all delicious. A garden area available when it's not too chilly or rainy. Wonderful art, and great service.
