This place has been around forever and was recommend by some friends who used to live in Mexico City. A bit austere but that is part of the old school charm. Delicious traditional mexican and super service. Yum!

We were very fortunate to be invited by friends to meet them in Mexico City. To explore the city with friends who had lived there was a no brainer. We were going to arrive before them and their only request was to wait for them to go to El Cardenal. Had we gone without them, our breakfast would have been... More

I have been several times to this restaurante, for breakfast and lunch. Always a delightful experience, starting with its location, the building, the food, which its superb and the service. For breakfast the enchiladas michoacanas or the tasajo enchilado are splendid, always accompanied by a "concha", sweet bread, with "nata" For lunch the "fideo seco", (capellini mexican style) and the... I went there for lunch with a group of college friends. We ordered some of their appetizer dishes (botanas) with our tequilas. They are some of the best I have ever had. Their service was impeccable and very friendly. Highly recommendable. I hear also that Sunday brunch is an experience. Reservations are suggested as it is very popular

My wife and i greatly enjoyed our meal here. We're both Mexicans and aren't easily impressed by Mexican food from fancy places, except this time. We had the Pecho de Cordero which was hands down one of the most delicious meals we've ever had. We also tried the Suadero soup whch was pretty good. The place is a bit loud... More

El El Cardenal" (The Cardinal) is one of the most traditional and best places to have breakfast in Mexico City, hence, for traditional Mexican breakfasts this is as good as it gets globally. Service is good, and food is usually extraordinary, yet you do have to have some idea of what to order, but you can always ask your waiter... More

After discovering that the restaurant closed at 6:00 PM, we decided to go for lunch here as a break from visiting museums in the Zocalo. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere that makes it seem more upscale than it really is. The food was delicious, but the service was a little uneven as I think our waiter was very new.... More
