A cousin that happens to be a real "know it all" for Mexico City brought me here. Take the time to read the menu, that happens to be a very good footprint of traditional Mexican dishes from all over. Just typing I am salivating for the "duck tacos", top them with green sauce add fresh chopped onions and coriander. Brave... More

A very traditional restaurant located in the historic downtown of Mexico City, serves one of the best breakfasts in the city. If you are doing sight seeing in downtown, it is also a good idea for lunch.

First of all, if possible, please visit early in the morning before 10am to avoid the overwhelming crowds. We were offered homemade mexican pastries which were deliciously warm and fluffy. I tried the authentic mexican hot chocolate, chilaquilles in green sauce (btw its a bit soupy but remember this dish is served very differently in different regions in Mexico). Overall... More

Waiters don't speak English but they do have english menu. Food is no so good, the Margaretta I ordered is also so so. But a lot oflocal customers and it seemed a popular local restaurant.

Wonderful traditional Mexican food, nice ambiance ,helpful wait staff, and timely service. Tried escamoles (ant eggs) for the first time and surprisingly tasty. Mole also a standout. Do not miss their famous hot chocolate. Entire family thought it was a hit! Only slightly negative is that they do not accept reservations and close at 6:30 pm. Lana

Great flavors from all the dishes we tried. Tacos, chicken mole, roasted veal ribs and all the dessert dishes were heart-warming and delish! Highly recommend this place.

Located in a nice and busy business area, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Mexico City. I am specially fond of their bakery! However, all that I have tried in their menu and specials is great quality and flavor, as most of mexican food!!

Our various excellent walking guides and food guides (Eat Mexico Culinary Tours and Journeys Beyond the Surface) all suggested El Cardenal as the "place to go" for old world food at its best. It is, indeed. There are tame selections for the faint of heart, but if you're adventurous, definitely try the creamy and well-seasoned brain empanadas, the beef tongue... More

I just came from Washington DC and the first thing that I want is my delicious REAL Mexicana food, and the best option to try the Mixiote is in this restaurant! I'm Mexican and I have been tasting good food all around the city, but a Mixiote like this one just here! Also please do not hesitate to order sweet... More
