I hadn't been here for about 20 years but happened to be staying just down the street at the new Holiday Inn Buenavista which was also excellent (see my review). i wondered what i would encounter at Sep's but on entering i realized it was just as classic, elegant and beautiful as ever. still owned by the same Alsatian family... Three of us, including a well known Mexican food critic, sat down to a very satisfying meal starting with excellent dark bread and pate. The turkey was moist and plentiful, and my Milanesa was perfectly done. Drinks were classic. Everything about our experience was good and 'homey' in the best sense of comfort food and old style grace and ambience.

We were given a starter of pate sliced vegetables and bread, there was a 90peso cover charge although I noticed some regulars turned this down. I had an excellent braised steak served sizzling and my wife a huge knuckle of pork. Good value for money. There was an OK pianist but the restaurant was almost employ on a Thursday evening.... We wanted to find a restaurant close to our hotel in Mexico City on Paseo de La Reforma during our visit. So I just selected "search" close to me and our hotel. SEP'S came up as #68 recommended restaurants in Mexico City. After a little bit of confusion about the exact location, Sep's is actually located on the corner of... More

The food I ate was not spicey but well seasoned. I ate early and a young woman came out and played Rachmaninof's IIIrd. It was very good.

Staying in Coyoacan

Neighborhood Profile
Coyoacan
Once you step into Coyoacán (“Land of the Coyotes”) you'll find picturesque parks and cantinas that will transport you back to the colonial era thanks to the brick and stone details of the area. Iconic writers such as Trotsky and great painters like Frida Kahlo seeked refuge and inspiration in this area, and you can see the unique spirit of this neighborhood reflected in its colorful market where nieves, sopes and all kinds of traditional 'antojitos' are a must try. Restaurants and cafés throughout its peaceful paved streets contain traditional but unique murals and decorations, where one can enjoy a mezcal at noon or the best churros with a cup of coffee.
