We had dinner last night with friends at Coconuts restaurant in Zihuatanejo. We had researched this restaurant on trip advisor before making reservations. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is well decorated and you would not know you were in downtown Zihuatanejo. Large trees dominate the landscape. Very quiet and the restaurant is spacious. Our table was set based on our reservation made by the manager at our hotel. Our table was covered in rose petals and tall wine glasses with dinner napkins extending from the wine glasses. Service was excellent as was the food. Everyone ordered something different from pasta to red snapper to lobster to coconut shrimp. There were no complaints regarding the food only accolades.
The menu is varied and diverse with starters and appetizers, entrees from seafood, steaks, and pastas and a nice selection of desserts with many prepared tableside.
There was live music from a trio that performed a variety of light music in Spanish and English. Very mellow, of course that may have been the result of a bottle of Moët Chandon. The wine list was extensive with wines from Mexico, Chile, France, and the U.S.
I highly recommend Coconuts for dinner and absolutely without any negative comments whatsoever. The manager often came to our table to confirm everything was to our satisfaction. He had a taxi awaiting us when we finished dinner and our well prepared flambé desserts.

We went here for my husband’s birthday and they went out of their way to make it an amazing experience with a special dessert and table covered with rose pedals. The service was excellent and felt personal. The Chile relleno was incredible as was the calamari. We would definitely come back.

The food was great, the service was very professional and at the same time very entertaining. The garden setting is very beautiful and the music was amazing. My meal was very good, and my wife's pork chop was very tasty, but unfortunately overcooked and tough. We mentioned it to the waiter when he noticed that it was barely eaten, and the manager came over to apologize. When we received the bill we noticed that we were not charged for her meal. We sat for an hour after dinner with another glass of wine and enjoyed the music. Had a very enjoyable evening!. This is the type of management reaction one expects from a well run restaurant

On entering this restaurant on Saturday at about 6:30 PM, the ambience looked great. Once seated, noticed the tablecloth was quite stained and soiled. Server started to set the table until we mentioned that perhaps a new table covering might be an idea.
The food and service was really deplorable considering the restaurant was only 30% occupied.
Add to that, in spite of the fact we had sprayed ourselves with an organic bug spray, we were bitten to death.
This restaurant is truly to be considered such a miss for its lack of service, deplorable food and outrageous prices for their mediocrity.

I have read your review several times and find a few things difficult to understand: 1- Our tables are set before we open, so server couldn't have set the table in front of you, especially if it had been a slow evening. 2-Our food has been consistently excellent, as most comments confirm; if not, we readily correct the problem. 3- We have not had complaints about bugs this season. We're always on top of that.
I apologize for your unfortunate experience. I have spoken with the manager about your comments, and she has spoken with waiting staff. Though nobody recalls any complaints last night, they all have been made aware of it. We take clients' comments very seriously and do not condone the type of service you encountered.
An example, I had a continuing conversation with the author of a poor review, (a few comments below) - he admitted and apologized that he had not visited our restaurant and that he had it confused with another one. Unfortunately, he opted not to delete nor edit his comments. Again, we take poor reviews very seriously and rectify the problems immediately.

It saddens me to say that we won’t be going back to Coconuts on our next trip to Zihua. For the last 3 years our service there has been horrible. We seem to get the same waiter. Older gentleman. Although this has always been one of our favorite restaurants for the past 20 years our optimism that their service will improve has ended.
We went with another couple so asked for separate checks. Our waiter acted appalled like this was some really big deal. Last year he did the same and gave us one bill instead of two. We had to constantly ask other waiters if our waiter could come back to take our order, refill drinks, give us a dessert menu........when we asked about the bananas flambé we were told just a minute, have to check and see if doing it because very busy. And he never came back. We finally flagged him down and asked for our bill. I think this is the first time ever that we left no tip. And my husband let the waiter know we weren’t leaving one and that we would be giving the tip to the band instead.

Coconuts restraunt is an inside and fancy patio place in el centro Zihua. It is two blocks off the bay and main beach front drive. We had coctails, black bean soup, very nice. Cesaear salad for starters. Then the entrees were a fancy and tasty pork chop and a 350 gram fillet mignon. Good steaks are hard to find in Zihua. You are better off to have a good fresh mahi mahi than apoor steak. Their steak was quite good as was their flaming dessert(a nice show).. The upscale dinning comes at a price of about 2000 pesos for a dinner for two as discribed. So it all depends on your desires and your buget. Bon appetit

Coconuts is consistently a restaurant of choice during our yearly trips to Ixtapa/Zihua. Many of the staff have been there for years and they remember our favorites and serve to please. In all of our years coming we have never had a bad experience, try it and hope you love it as much as we do.

One of our favorites in Z. I love the chile relleno and the guys know my husband is vegan so the chef made a fabulous alternative version for him. The staff treats everyone like royalty and the setting is really lovely. Thanks for a memorable dining experience.

Four of us went without a reservation (not recommended) on Friday night and Orlando (Host) greeted us with a 'No problem....welcome home'. We sat in the courtyard which was a wonderful, open ambience. We have been to several dining rooms, including Casa Que Canta, and the four of us enjoyed this place the most (save for the exceptional and spectacular room over La Ropa). Our meals were delicious (red snapper, shrimp scampi, chile relleno, shrimp pasta), service outstanding (Jose) and the music and feel of the place is great. Not cheap but not expensive relative to what you would pay at home for such quality. Highly recommend it and we will be back!

First time we dined at Coconuts was in 2006 and we’ve eaten there every year since. Terrific ambiance, exceptional staff and service and great food as always. And generally they have live music on Fridays and Saturdays and the saxophonist last was very talented and an exceptional showman. Our cousins who are in Zihua for the first time joined us last night and they and they had a terrific experience including singing along either saxophonist and the wait staff.

While strolling downtown Ziuha one night, we stopped in front of Coconuts and an extremely pleasant gentleman encouraged us to come in and dine. He seated us in an outdoor garden area, brought us drinks and menus and began to introduce us to our waiters and various other servers. We were pampered to the point of them almost buttering our bread for us. The menu was extensive and the meals great! One of us (a big eater) had a pasta dish, another shrimp tacos, (a mere appetizer) which were loaded with shrimp, cheese and white wine sauce. We didn't find it very expensive for what we received. Once the sun set, the patio lights came on, the single musician on stage began playing guitar and singing beautiful tranquil songs (not loud). It was so beautiful that we didn't want to leave and ordered another glass of wine (good selection). I would highly recommend this restaurant and so grateful that the doorman encouraged us to come in. We're already planning on going again next week. That giant lobster looked so tempting.

Everything about Coconuts was incredible. We were seated in the outdoor open air courtyard that they have somehow transformed to look like you're in the middle of a secluded jungle. Live music was playing while we were there and it was just the right volume to add great ambiance without being overbearing. We were still able to have conversations easily across table. We went as a couples dinner but this is such a romantic spot, it would make a great date night! We had wine, Caesar salad, coconut shrimp, mahi mahi, diablo coffee, and strawberry flambe. Every single dish was to die for, literally the best food out of everywhere we've tried in the Ixtapa/Zihua area. Our server let my husband help make the Diablo coffee and it was an incredible experience! We will plan to come back every time we travel to the area.

Have been eating at Coconuts over the past several years and have been satisfied. Went down this year for their Friday night Fish and Chips ( which we have done often) and was extremely disappointed. The fish batter came out almost black, over cooked and/or grease needed to be changed. Pices were very small and fries were few and far between BUT tastey Was very let down. The service and staff were good

My husband and I visited Coconuts for the first time January 8th for our last night of vacation in Zihua. We ordered hearts of palm, Caesar salad, pasta and red snapper. We were so pleased with our meal and our delicious Chilean wine. Our wait staff was amazing! They were beyond attentive and fun and the entertainment was fantastic! The singer was doing old favorite classics in different languages. My husband mentioned that it was my birthday and they brought me a lovely dessert with a candle and happy birthday and also acknowledged our anniversary. We will absolutely go back in March during our next trip!!

Coconuts is a great place for a special dinner. There is a lovely outdoor garden; do request a table near the wall with trees decorated in fairy lights. It’s magical! Friendly, helpful staff and delicious drink & food. Portions are large! We ordered two salads (one tomatoes and one hearts of palm and they were huge—we all split them so we could enjoy our entree. Fish is excellent and of course, coconut shrimp is a speciality. Margaritas and Mojitos are well crafted.
