While the Red Cabbage Café is a bit off the beaten track, it is certainly worth the effort to find. It is on the south bank of the River Cuale in a mostly residential area of Puerto Vallarta. It is well known for its excellent, truly authentic traditional Mexican food. No Tex-Mex, no nachos or tostados. The café is relatively... More

There were six of us for dinner so call for reservations. The service is great and very friendly. The food was excellent and presented very well. I had the Chamorro and it was great.

Not sure why the Red Cabbage has such appeal for so many. We were recommended to dine here by our host at the hotel and found it a bit disappointing. Perhaps it is the "secret" feeling location, or the fun decor that draws so many in. I appreciated their dedicated vegetarian section on the menu but found the food lacking.... More

Been coming here for many years. Good traditional Mexican in a pleasant environment. Enough choices for our veggie guests.

There were 2 of us returning to Red Cabbage. As usual, we couldn't decide, so we ordered all 3 chile dishes. Chile en Nogada, Chile Rellanos and Chile Piccadillo. As always, we loved every bite. The restaurant is charming, the food is excellent as is the service. All good. We'll continue to return multiple times during our month long visit.

We rank this #2 of the three restaurants we tried for traditional Mexican cuisine. It is very nearly tied with Casa Tradicional (delightful and delicious) and quite a bit better than the well-known El Arrayan (3 stars). It is out of the tourist area, and so gets less of the crowd, but discerning diners seek it out.

Have already been twice this season. Must make reservations & cash only. Excellent food. One of the best meals we have had in Puerto Vallarta and the staff is always friendly. Everything on the menu is worth a try, especially the Carafe of Cheap Red Wine! Unique décor so take your camera

We have been coming here for 22 out of the 23 years it has been opened. The host is always very friendly, remembers us for years' past, as do some of the waiters. The food - from Frieda's wedding is unsurpassed in PV and Mexico! We have a tradition of going here on Valentine's Day, and another during our stay... More

Our cab driver could not find the restaurant and had to ask several groups of people on the street where to go. Definitely off the beaten path. But worth the time and effort to get there. If you are looking for an authentically Mexican dining experience with great service and a truly delightful ambiance, this is the place to go.... More
