Had dinner on Monday at Red Cabbage, one of our more favourite places to dine. The decor and food are very different, very authentic Mexican Food. Great service, friendly staff, especially the Main Man, Cucco.. They are closed Sundays and only take cash. you must make a reservation, as they are small and become very busy. The Margarittas are great, and they have the Best Cheap Red Wine we have every tasted. Food is simply amazing, and all freshly made. if you want to experience the flavor of Mexico. definately put this restaurant on your list. We listed this restaurant under Cheap Eats, because we feel that the prices are very, very reasonable. But it is not a Cheap Bar type dining. just very reasonable priced. less than mid range i would say. Enjoy.

Had Dinner there last night, they are still open, "Thank You", from 5:00 till 9:30, closed Sunday, but you must make a reservation, as they are following Protocol and have limited space. As Always, one of our favorite restaurants to dine at, during our 3 month stay in P.V. Cuco's service, excellent as always, had a chance to talk to Lola, the Owner. Very sad that possible 1/2 her clientele will not be here this season, Canadians. She, along with many other establishment owners, afraid that they might have to close permanently. so very sad, SO, if you are here, then please go for dinner, at least once, if not more... excellent food, great prices, (NO Credit Cards), You will love the food very quaint restaurant, check out their website, you will not be disappointed.

Lola Bravo, the owner, has an amazing little restaurant in an out of the way location. As soon as you enter the place, you sense the wonderful calm that permeates throughout. Fantastic artistic treasures adorn the walls and hint at wonderful things to come. The staff is enthusiastic and helpful in every way possible, and have a great sense of humour. Then there's the food. No compromise here. Everything is made with top quality ingredients and prepared to perfection. A perfect variety of chicken, pork, beef and fish dishes are offered. Exactly what you need when you can't make up your mind. My wife and I chose pork dishes for our first time and they were done to perfection. Now we've got to go back and try more things. Thank you Lola, and staff, for this unique restaurant and the superior effort you go to to make sure your customers are well fed and happy.

We never miss an opportunity to experience dining at the Red Cabbage with every trip some time multiple times! We enjoy the ambiance and the staff who are always very welcoming and super friendly, it’s just like you’ve come home. A few of our favorite dishes are the peanut soup, Chilis en Nogada, Chilis Rellenos, Chilis de Picadillo. Everything we have had are delicious with complex flavors and typically light on spice as everyone knows, traditionally Mexican cuisine is NOT spicy but possess more developed flavors. Red Cabbage always knocks it out of the park for us and they make a damn good margarita too! You need to grab an Uber and have dinner at the Red Cabbage we think you’ll agree with us and it’ll be on your list for every visit, just like us. You might even see Lola as we did! She’s such a sweet lady. Coco we think you’re the best!!

Wonderful spot. Need reservations & bring cash. Our group tried several items. Fish Vera Cruz was good but not exceptional. Chicken/mole dish had a bit of heat & was excellent. The pork shank was tender & fell off the bone served with a mole that was mild, more like a barbecue sauce. Served with a mashed potatoes option which was delicious for a change after two months in Mexico. Wasn’t in love with the spinach salad which was unusual-not really a salad...spinach, ground up to a paste like a pesto, thinly spread onto a plate- that you had to scoop off. Not much taste and texture was strange. Don’t recommend. Want to go back & try some other dishes. Oh and the margaritas are real & excellent, not made with a sugary processed juice. Yum!

Out of the tourist zone, this restaurant is exceptional in terms of the authenticity in which it presents traditional Mexican food. The interior is a simple layout full of artwork by local artists and Frida Kahlo posters. The food reflects the ambiance and is exceptional. The only shortcoming is the Margaritas which don’t quite excel in the way that everything else does.

I love this restaurant. I have reviewed it before, and since it's a bit out of the way, I was worried how it had fared with the pandemic. We visited last week, and as always, it was wonderful. Also, it seems to have been "discovered"--much busier than our last visit in 2019. They had changed the menu, but we asked the manager if we could still have Frida's dinner, and she was happy to oblige. My best friend and I enjoyed a margarita, followed by peanut soup, a cold chile relleno dotted with pomegranate seeds, then chicken mole, followed by flan for dessert. Did I forget to mention wine was also included. The whole thing for 2 of us around $60 US. Awesome. I'm not a "foodie" but this always a favorite. Cash only, I think

I lived this beautiful place. It’s off the beaten path across from a river and actually quite romantic.the service was superb and the food really caught me off guard. I did not expect to like it as much as I did. They have a sampler on the menu selection that includes a small variety of things and everything was great. The artwork in the walls is eclectic and gives it a Bohemian vibe. Try the walnut cream sauce it is unforgettable!

The cafe is filled with interesting artwork and pictures of Frida who apparently had her wedding reception at the cafe. The menu is classic Mexican (as opposed to tacos and burritos). The Chilis Rellanos and Mole chicken were fantastic. Everything we ordered was terrific. The pitcher of Margueritas packed a velvet hammer. It's not expensive. Service was professional and attentive. You need reservations. And it is not to be missed. Highly recommend.

We fell in love with The Red Cabbage Cafe years and we return time and time again. The best service and consistently delicious food along with some tasty margaritas make this one of our favorite dining experiences. It has this charm about the interior that's so inviting. The staff are Amazing! Super friendly, attentive and will do what ever it takes for you to have a wonderful dining experience time and time again. Authenticity is the key word here. Authentic dishes. When we vacationed in Puerto Vallarta we had to come at least twice duding the week. . Now that we live closer, about an hour and a half north) we try to come more often. They typically close during low season June to October as many restaurants do so be aware of that.

On the recommendation of a friend we went to the Red Cabbage Cafe. The peppers are the go-to item on the menu and I was not disappointed (even though they be better served hot). My partner had the Fish Vera Cruz and was pleased. As a reminder this is a dinner only restaurant. Last year we found out the hard way. We walked from downtown for lunch and then walked back. I'd strongly suggest a cab, which we did this year.

A friend of mine had been telling me about this restaurant for years and I finally went during my last visit to PV. I was a little apprehensive given the off the beaten path location, but it ended up being one of my best meals of the week. I usually order mole dished whenever possible and the mole at the Red Cabbage was one of the best I have ever had. I would definitely eat here again.

While this is a cute out of the way place and has a decent Mexican centred menu, where it wavered was the service, and the billing method. To be fair the food was tasty, and well presented, but it was not a ‘wow’ meal. We have come to PV for over ten years and gone to many restaurants and indeed had a number of such ‘wow’ moments. The owner came to our table virtually within a minute or two after our drinks were ordered and ask what we were ordering, and when we told him we weren’t ready, he acted like a small child and huffed away like we were a nuance. The delivery of the drinks was quick and unceremonious as was the food when it arrived. No ‘hi how are you tonight, no welcome, no anything’. When we finally got our bill which was roughly $360 ( including 18% mandatory tip as our group was six people) it was three or four hand written numbers on two scraps of paper. Payable only in cash, which we knew in advance. This is a nice place, with decent food and charming decor, but they really need to stop acting like they’re only game in town and act like they actually appreciate their customers and the business. Seems like they think they ‘deserve’ the business. I hope your experience will be better if you go.

This is a hidden gem well worth finding. Cuco and staff took very good care of me. It can be weird sometimes in Mexico as a female dining solo, but I was welcomed and made to feel very comfortable. The restaurant itself is unassuming on the outside, but on the inside it is filled with art and color. I’m always looking for good mole, and this was the best mole I’ve ever had, with just the right mix of sweetness and a spicy bite. Lovely place, lovely staff, muchas gracias por la comida maravillosa!
