I was so excited to return to Barrio Bistro because of the foodie food, service, and ambience that had experienced so many times in the past. I was so dissapointed, as a lot of other reviews have said. To begin with I was dining alone....I noticed my table was the only one without a table cloth - not a big deal - I was at a smaller table. The restaurant was mosly empty due to Covid. The waitress took my drink order (vodka on the rocks) and then proceeded to take a large party's order, rather than waiting for my drink to be poured. I waited 10 min for my drink. The sourdough bread they put on my table tasted like it came out of a grocery store bag sliced paper thin. The hummus and pesto nothting special bland. I ordered a salad with beets, goat cheese, and citrus. Salad was totally soggy and wet; beets and goat cheese were cut in such a small dice I had to look for them. My main course was crab, squid and mussesl. Crab and squid were fried in old oil - NOT fresh and cripsy and I had mussels that were not open - therefore I couldn't eat. SO Dissapointed!! I asked the owner if they had decaf coffee. He said yes. The coffee was NOT decaf but regular and SERVED TO ME IN A PAPER CUP - not even a mug or a cup! A paper cup. I asked the waiter who was not serving me if ther was a mug or a cup - he said no. The waitress kept call me "Hey Lady" I asked her to please use Senora or Senorita. I charged my meal by wanted to leave my tip in cash (pesos). I had some one me but needed changed changed for a 200 peso bil roughly $10 and change USD - She told me no on the restaurant had change. How can a restaurant not have change?? I had been overtipping everywhere in Puerta Vallarata from taxi drives to servers because I felt bad for them. The waitress recreived whatever pesos I had. To be clear and honest I had emailed Gina, I belive the wife of the owner as I so enjoyed eating here in the past so see if they were open. I was in PVR for 2 weeks ate out every night for 14 nights - this by far was my biggest dissapointment. I would not recommend at all.More

What a wonderful foodie destination! Being from San Francisco, a huge foodie capital, I had to see for myself what all the fuss was about. Chef Memo did not disappoint! From the spacious artsy outdoor dining area, the unique Raicillia cocktails to the creative weekly...menu. Chef Memo came over and described each entree listed on their portable, chalkboard menu. The enthusiasm Chef Memo had in describing each entree was very passionate. I started with a thin corn puff filled with Portobello mushrooms and foie gras. It sat on a base of green and red sauces. Absolutely delicious. Then I had a Sweet Potato soup with Goat Cheese and beet sauce ribbons. OMG, delicious. Since the portions are a good size, there was no more room for a main course. I was deeply satisfied with the food, atmosphere and service. The main server speaks fluent English (so does Chef Memo). Regarding Covid protocols, all staff wore masks, temperature was taken at the door as well as hand sanitizing before entering the dining area. Pricing is a bit on the high side for Mexico, but the quality of food and service makes it all worthwhile. I’m definitely a fan!More

We haven’t been here for a year and we’re excited to revisit, this restaurant is still as amazing as it always was, I would describe the food as eclectic with an emphasis on what is fresh and interesting. Thoughtfully and beautifully presented the passion of...the chef shows through. Breakfast and lunch is also now served as a way of keeping staff employed during Covid great service and really good dishes. So happy this place continues with great success.. a gem !More

An amazing meal. Mine was chicken on roasted pumpkin. Subtle sweet and savory flavors, balanced with moist chicken. So good! Friend had bacon wrapped shrimp. Wow! I would have a hard time choosing between the two. Best to get them both and share. Didn't get...a picture of the desserts, we dug in too quickly. Key lime pie was delicate, unique, on a light flaky crust, absolute euphoria! The cheesecake was on the sweet side but paired well with the fresh berries. Staff was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend. We will go back!More

Came on recommendation of locals. When I called for a reservation, the chef himself answered the phone! He came out several times during the meal to make sure everything was good and chat. Large varied menu that changes daily. I had chicken stuffed with prosciutto...& mashed potatoes. My friend had the tuna, for which they bring you a smoking hot stone to cook it on yourself: brilliant & delicious. Chef gave complimentary shots of raicilla, like a mezcal, from agave plants grown at their local farm nearby. Welcoming to families.More

My spouse and I tried this restaurant during restaurant week after we had heard good things about it. The space indoors is charming, the courtyard lacks character and it’s not welcoming even with the sailboat on the yard. We tried five different dishes. The soup...was delicious, creamy and flavorful. The short ribs were tender and paired well with the sweet potato mash. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was subpar. The salad was not fresh and overly dressed; the stuffed chicken breast was completely insipid. The churros were dried inside and out. The servers were good. A chef came by to ask if we were served well but did not ask anything about the food and left promptly. In all, this restaurant does not deserve a second visit.More

It was fabulous! Sat on the patio and enjoyed many items from the Restaurant Week menu. Locally caught Mahi and bbq shrimp were delicious. They have a great list of drinks with Raicilla. Service was excellent, in both Spanish and English. Will certainly be returning...next time I’m in PV.More

It’s the slow season, so we are trying to support local restaurants. Once again the menu was unique and powerful in fused with local cuisine. We ordered two different salads in a version of French onion soup and a portobello mushroom appetizer, for the main...course we ordered chicken Cordon Bleu in a seaweed infused Friday. Wonderful twists on classic dishes. The main courses have either sweet potato purée or potato purée and a wonderful melody of vegetables. Of course Memo had his signature sauce is that are unique to every dish. I own a number of hotels and restaurants this remains one of my favorite places to eat anywhere in the world. Thank you for the wonderful evening Memo.More

I was there for the first time since Memo reopened. It was so delicious..memo made me Lamb Osobucco, with a chicken stuffed with Chicharone. Absolutely the wonderful.

Did a Raicilla tasting paired with lunch as a cruise excursion. Fabulous experience. Pablo did a great job teaching us about the distilling process and leading us through a tasting of various Raicillas with the cocktails being crafted in front of us. Lunch provided was...delicous, including the best gaucamole I have ever had. Wonderful time. Highly recommend.More
