We happened upon this place by chance when we were unable to get a table at a nearby restaurant we had intended to dine at. It had been raining but it was still a pleasantly warm evening and Azafran had a sidewalk table available under a canopy so we chose to eat there. Our waiter was excellent, brought menus and took our wine order immediately. I chose the pumpkin risotto which was very rich and creamy with lots of chunks of pumpkin throughout. My husband had the pork cutlet with mashed potatoes and he found it to be the best cutlet he had eaten in years. Our waiter comped us an after dinner drink so we lingered, just people watching on the busy street corner of Olas Altus. Would definitely return here.

My many visits to Puerto Vallarta have not brought me into this restaurant until my latest visit in January. I am starting to appreciate the finer dining options available in the area, and the incredible value you find when exploring the options outside of standard cheap mexico eats. My dinner at Azafran delivered on all fronts. I decided I wanted a healthy option so I went with the catch of the day, it was perfectly cooked and served with tomatoes, Olives, Almonds & Avocado. I had the house red wine which was very good, with a generous pour, hard to find in this area. For dessert I enjoyed the Chocolate Baileys Cake and an old fashioned cocktail that was incredible, it was topped off with a cinnamon stick on fire. Thank you Isaias for the recommendations, great service and for letting me try some Raicilla for the very first time!

Thanks Trip Advisor reviewers! Shared a very good caesar salad with anchovies, a rare treat. Had the stuffed chicken with ricotta & spinach on a bed or risotto which was delish! My spouse had the shrimp with ratatouille which she thoroughly enjoyed. Several members of our party, who must not be trip advisor readers ordered weinerschnitzel and were disappointed, saying it was overcooked. We loved it. Thanks reviewers.

We have walked by a few times and eyed their menu each time. Last night we went in for dinner and are so glad we did! Ulises was our server and he did a fantastic job keeping us happy. We ordered the green salad for dessert - the presentation was so beautiful. It was almost too pretty to eat! But we did and it was fantastic. For dinner we had the stuffed chicken breast served with risotto and the sautéed shrimp - both were beautiful when served - I almost wanted to take a picture! Both amazing to eat as well. Next time we will try the Oso Bucco! We can not recommend this place enough.

On the advice of some fellow travellers we dined at Azafran which means saffron in Spanish. It was a delightful meal with wonderful service. I had the pork tenderloin and my friend had the three course set menu for 399 pesos which was delicious. We also discovered a new red wine that we both really liked.

There are a lot of seafood restaurants and pizzerias in this area and so it’s great to have Azafrán as an alternative. The chef is German and European-trained so the food is a sort of German-Mexican fusion. I ate there four times over the course of a month and enjoyed everything. The service is phenomenal - the staff is friendly and professional. The salads were fantastic and there is a decent wine selection. I enjoyed trying Chilean CabSavs that I can’t get at home.
I tried the pork belly, which was delicious, but they should not advertise it as “crispy” because it certainly wasn’t. When you are in the mood for a little pampering and are tired of fish tacos, give them a try,

after walking around for a while we stopped here for dinner. they had posted a special dinner menu outside on the board so I decided to have the special of the day. came with soup, the main and dessert. the soup was hot fresh and full of flavor. the soup was an Asian style coconut broth soup that really packed lots of flavor. then i had the bacon wrapped filet cooked perfect. they offered ice cream for dessert and i picked saffron...its was very good. my friends were also pleased with their dishes too. they have indoor and outdoor seating. we we mentioned the heat, it was warm that night, they turned on the air right away. they waiters, and the chef were all great. the chef came out and talked with each table and made sure everything was good. at the end of the meal the came by with the house made lemoncello for all of us, nice touch. this would be a great place for a date or friends.

I went to Azafran with friends last night.
I was hesitant because I had a really bad experience way back when this restaurant had a different name but nevertheless decided to give it a try again.
What a 180 degrees refreshing surprise!
I had the tuna Carpaccio to start with and it was exceptionally in innovative presentation, quality of ingredients and surprisingly generous in portion. I loved it.
I had the Mahi Mahi. Fresh, tomato reduction, olives. Very pleasing. The side rice delivered this nice saffron quality that I really enjoy.
My spouse had the pork belly and truly enjoyed it.
We had a bottle of French Rose wine. Nice, crisp and very reasonably priced.
Service was polished, unobtrusive.
We’re glad we went back and we will return.

I always make a point to eat at Azafran at least once or twice during my yearly visits to PV. The service is impeccable and the kitchen produces food that is so unexpected in a very touristed location. The menu is more continental but very creative, and always delicious. By now, I've eaten my way through much of the menu and have yet to experience a bad meal. Appetizers, main dishes and desserts are all fine here. Skip the heavily touristed restaurant and margarita strips and head here.

This place truly amazing all around. Our server, Nico, and the rest of the staff who took care of us was super attentive and gracious. Started off with some really great cocktails (the Tuito Margarita was solid). For dinner, my husband and I came here during restaurant week and got to have the three-course menu special. Everything I was cooked to perfection, well balance flavors, and ways to best meal we have had at PV. It was very affordable for the quality of service and food, especially compared to restaurants on the beachfront, and it was better overall in every aspect. Truly a gem in Zona Romantica. My only regret is we ate here the last night of our trip!

Azafran is a wonderful, fine dining choice in PV. It is obvious the dishes and craft cocktails are designed with love and care. They have strong selections for vegetarians/vegans in addition to meat and seafood dishes. I had the pumpkin and walnut raviolis with sage sauce and they were delicious. We also had the watermelon gazpacho which was delightful. My boyfriend had the schnitzel and then the fettuccini with shrimp and loved them both. For drinks we had one made with Raicilla and then I had the beautiful hibiscus flower vodka martini they had specifically for Thanksgiving week. They are very COVID safe and service is top notch. If you want true fine dining experience that is still fun and not stuffy, Azafran is the place for you. Also, if you are going to a show at the Palm which is just across the street it makes an ideal, classy dinner and a show evening. I could not give a higher recommendation. A meal like this in the U.S. would cost you twice as much.

A co-worker who visits PV often recommended this place for a special dinner and it paid off. Marvelous food, great service. We both selected the Summer Menu at MX $499, so about US $27 each for three courses. My wife chose the stuffed figs and I the sauteed asparagus as appetizers. Our main course for both was the Nayarit Lamb Barbacoa style. For dessert, she had the Grandma-style Apple Beignet (a recipe from the chef's grandmother in Germany) and I had the chocolate mousse.
We liked Azafran so much we considered returning for dinner during our one week in PV.

I went for dinner with my boyfriend. The food, ambience and service were excellent!
For drinks, I had the mezcal margarita which was delicious, then, to accompany the cheese and meat platter, we ordered the merlot house wine, which was delightful.
As mentioned above, we started out with a cheese and meat platter, followed by the schnitzel, azafran salmon and for dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse.
The plates are very well served and you definitely get what you pay for.
The service was incredible, all the staff was very attentive to all our requests.
To top of the evening, we also got a limonchello on the house, it was a very special surprise.
Definitely going back soon.

We feasted yesterday evening at Azafran. I say that because this was very surprising in a city devoted to beaching and vacationing. The restaurant is spacious, tables are not crammed together so conversation was easy for us. Every detail was attended to. Cutlery was placed by the server with forceps! the plating on the ceramic dinnerware actually complimented the Chef's artistic composition, as to colour and shape. Each course was prepared perfectly in house by a master chef from the starting sourdough bread and special seasoned butter, to the beautiful sweet cinnamon apple dessert garnished and highlighted with a fresh fruit bouquet to the side and a sphere of vanilla ice cream in counterpoint. The opening soup was a hot coconut lime frothed and served with an herb. First course was a pair of perfectly grilled shrimp over a bed of fruity seafoam. The main course for me was a filet of mahi mahi garnished with a walnut chimichuri on a bed of arugula and tiny sliced cherry tomatoes. They had wonderful wines for pairing for my partner, but I do not use alcohol, so enjoyed sparkling mineral water and lime. Each and every bite of this meal was to enjoy, to take the time to savour the orchestra of flavour blends, and note the perfect preparation and unique recipes. I cannot recall the last time I so enjoyed the quality and care in a meal. It was truly "fine dining", and for me, long past due. I shall dine there again, while in PV and encourage you to do so as well.

We love this restaurant. Chef Andres never disappoints from the incredible sashimi appetizer, thru the stuffed figs to the shrimp/salmon pair finishing with a lemon tart to live for. Service is attentive and not rushed allowing time to savour the delectable food. Everything beautifully presented: dinner is a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Thank you Azafran for another memorable meal and a special birthday celebration.
