Started with puff pastry wrapped escargots...excellent. Waiter took the initiative to serve on two separate plates... very nice. I had veal scallopini and wifey had beef tenderloin. Both dishes were very good. Considering the quality of the service and food, the price seemed very reasonable. Highly recommended.

This has to be at least our sixth time eating here. We always visit at least once during our stays. As always the food and service was great. The Wiener schnitzel was delicious and the proton size was bigger than I remembered. My husband had a coffee rubbed steak filet which was also wonderful. It is on the pricier side... More

The most amazing part of this meal was the desert. I had the chocolate mousse with salted caramel. Simply amazing. I also had the lamb which was very good as well. I'm always a little hesitant eating something other than beef, fish or chicken in Mexico, but this was good. Service was also very very good and our waiter was... More

We were down town and thought we'd see if we could get in. The ever gracious owner found us a table. To our surprise it was Mardi Gras. They were serving a prix fixe 3 course menu for $495 pesos. Great choices: service, even though they were jammed, was great; the food was excellent and for the price, a steal.

We are breakfast regulars there and never does the staff led by Jesus or the kitchen fail to deliver their best. For a change of pace try the salmon bagel and the burrito machaca. The coffee is freshly done and the bread and jam/butter are first class. Sit outside for the passerby variety or a quiet indoor linen covered table... More

Three of us dined early on a Saturday( 4:30.) We sat just inside on a window table. We all had the same thing, weinerschnitzel. Red cabbage and spaetzl for two of us. Our drinks and bread arrived quickly an everything we had was fantastic, service was perfect. Too full for creme brule but I plan to go back just for... More

Max's continues to be outstanding: great food, great value, and Jesus-one of the world's great waiters. We eat here every year. We order a salad (excellent selections) and another starter for main meal. Good Mexican wine and drinks. For 2 people we spend about $50. Try the duck confit salad or beet salad. The crab cake on guacamole is outstanding!... More

My wife and I have been coming to Puerto Vallarta for years, and have walked by Kaiser Maximilian dozens of times, but never had dinner there. This year we decide to treat ourselves on Valentine's Day by giving the restaurant a try. After having dinner there, we could kick ourselves for not trying it sooner. One of the greatest meals... We had dinner here with a group of 6. We had great service. Jesus was our server and he did an amazing job of keeping everyone happy. Loved the ambiance of being on the happening sidewalk. Great people watching! I had the onion soup which did not disappoint and then the veal. I was pleased with both. Some had ice... More

Despite having some very tight timelines to get us out in time for a 7:00 PM show, the servers did a great job expediting our food through the kitchen. We had a four-course fixed menu for Valentine's Day. The food was superb. From start to finish ... a great dining experience.

Description
If you enjoy European sidewalk cafés and fine continental cuisine, this award-winning eatery evoking Old Vienna at its heyday is sure to charm you. A longtime Vallarta favorite, Austrian owner Andreas Rupprechter named the place in honor of fellow countryman, Mexico’s former emperor. And Maximilian himself would have loved dining here, perhaps, choosing hearty comfort food like Wienerschnitzel with potatoes and Austrian salad. Or delving into gourmet renditions of contemporary European fare, like Duo of duck breast and duck confit with Spätzle, mushrooms and sugar snap peas. And while the menu is constantly being tweaked, it’s nice knowing that some things don’t change, and for a dozen of years we’ve been able to count on enjoying our favorite plates here. So whether dining al fresco with unparalleled people watching, or in an intimate, air-conditioned, Old World milieu, when a fabulous meal or just a perfect pastry and a special coffee is what you crave, this is the place to be.
