One of my new favorites

Romanic dinner for two. We had reservations at 6 pm we were greeted promptly and seated at a romantic table. Started off with a couple of glasses of house wine the only wine I can drink with out getting a headache. Our starter was octopus salad very delicious. I had the house-made pasta with tomato sauce for dinner and my husband had the sword fish special he enjoyed it as well.

Food that tastes as good as the island looks!

I had such a wonderful experience. I try to avoid eating meat so ordered the homemade macaroni with goats cheese. I’ve got used to adding salt and pepper to my food as I find a lot of food is too simple or under seasoned in Croatia. This was perfectly cooked, amazing pasta, garlic locally grown and goats cheese locally made - absolutely packed with flavour and cooked with skill. My waiter was passionate about the food and wine and had a huge amount of knowledge - he educated me a lot about the local grape varieties. You can tell that everything about the restaurant is done with a lot of love and pride. I echo the other reviewers here who have said it’s the best food they’ve eaten in Croatia. It’s not the cheapest restaurant but it’s great value for money, the whole visit felt like a luxury experience.

It is more than food

Quality of food along with quality of service and amazing location caused that instead of following our itinerary and exploring other parts of Croatia we prolonged our stay in this place. Unique occasion to be hosted like a family member. No other place that you can eat olives planted 100% according to the rules of nature, no human interference. Best in class!

Amazing lunch in an amazing setting

Adrijan and his family have produced an experience that is second to none. You can immediately tell how much love and thought has gone into every aspect of this restaurant, overlooking the sea on the Eastern end of the island of Mljet. First and foremost, the food is excellent. We tried the cuttle fish risotto and the wild boar gnocchi. Both were exquisite. The wine from just outside Zagreb was a perfect match. We weren't rushed and the service was attentive but not intrusive. Having eaten all over the world, we quickly agreed this went into our top five meals, ever. The island is small and lovely to drive, so wherever you are staying, make a reservation here and your tastebuds will be rewarded, as well as your soul.

A wonderful friendly family restaurant with excellent food

We went to this restaurant based on the reviews and so glad that we did. It was perfect in every way. The welcome we got, the fabulous service all night long from all the family. The staff were so friendly and took so much time to talk to us and explain the food and drink. The food was to die for- so so old.Tuna carpaccio, swordfish beautifully cooked, grilled squid all served with perfect vegetables and fabulous olive oil and bread. We had a wonderful evening. Thank you so much. We may come tomorrow as well!

Better than perfect service

We had a 3 course dinner, the night started great after the lovely older lady welcomed us to our table with a wonderful view. As the night went on we met her son, the restaurant manager. They had a curious but funny dynamic, giving the place a lot of soul. They made every guest feel as comfortable as can be, as they displayed their detailed knowledge of how the food was prepared in every language imaginable. The food was delicious, every detail made just as it should be. Definitely recommend the swordfish steak, which paired great with motar and potato on the side. The rogač cake was out of this world. Make sure to come before nightfall to get the full experience since the view from the terrace was beautiful.

Starting with the positive things, we were satisfied with the location, suggestive and fascinating, and with the hospitality of the staff (who also speak many languages). The food is satisfactory, but certainly not at the level of the cost at which it is offered. Even the cover charge is decidedly exaggerated on an economic level. It seemed to us that the restaurant wants to position itself in a high price range despite not having the necessary features. The times were extremely long (the staff apologized for the wait due to problems in the kitchen). However, I also note that it takes a long time to provide the bill. Finally, the restaurateur reacted excessively harshly to a criticism received from a foreign couple sitting near us who complained about the low quality of the fried calamari. At the end of the discussion he walked away saying aloud (in Croatian) what almost seemed like insults.

When You will have the restaurant already 30 years where is eating some of the best chefs in the world and when You will have a palate good enough to judge,then I will apologize. But as I have this summer and last 20 summers too, 99,9 more than happy customers,10% of them speaking about the food like the best in life and I speak about customers which have possibilities to travel all world and eating in most expensive restaurants,so I really need to tell You that You are totally unfair and that you do not know enough. But if You think that you can eat better food any where in world than here ,please let me know and I will visit that place already in 2023. Also want to suggest You just to be carful about the judging something . It is same as you will teach Obama or Clinton about politic. Even you can not agree , but you can’t not appreciate. How ever I remember that evening, and my mother was over reacting,for what it’s not excuse. But that was just because famous people worldwide chefs are stunning for the same calamari and carpaccio and risotto. The people which was complaining was drunk and very bad people. I tried the food for which they was complaining,as they complained for two dishes even 😂😂 The both was 5/5 Even if will be 4/5 they and you will not recognize the difference. Maybe not even 3/5. So please leave us which are living this all life 24 hours per day to do our job and please do not judge. If you are not happy with some please do not go there and that’s it. Very simple. Excellent food

One of the best meals we had on our vacation. The host is excellent and very helpful. We had freshly caught tuna (one of the best we ever had) and black risotto (they specialise in risotto). The view is breathtaking. Would highly recommend. Just make a reservation beforehand.

Authentic food in a gorgeous setting

The view is breathtaking! The best oysters we had in long time! And the special “under the bell” dish.. delicious.. can recommend anyone visiting the island (check how many hours in advance you have to order this dish as it takes time to prepare). The friendliest welcome at the restaurant. Big thanks Stermasi for the very special evening.

Such a romantic place

We know Stermasi for many years. The 4 of us were welcomed very friendly by Adrian, the owner and his mother. We admired the view from our table on the terrace to turquise water and small islands in the bay. Such a beutiful view!!! Then we enjoyed Fish Carpaccio, the famous Octopus Salad and the homemade Prozut with Stermasi Bread. I had the best Swordfish Filet ever and my family hat Peka with goat and vegetables done in the oven. This you must order some hours before, it is great. Don‘t forget the Cheesecake! See you soon, Adrian!

Friendly but disappointing!

Nice people but unfortunately totally overpriced and tiny portions! For a dinner with 7 people we paid more than 4.000 Kuna. The vegetables you could count with two hands and hardly filled the plate. The tuna carpaccio was a few grams…. Hopefully they will change their policy.

Very rude service

I came to the restaurant on recommendation, I heard all the best about it: from the food, the ambiance and the service, but when I got there I was very disappointed. I can’t say anything about the food because I didn’t try anything, and only because the waiter (owner) of the restaurant was so rude and arrogant. I came at lunch time and he told me that all the tables were reserved , and that it remained to that I would have left without any anger because it's my fault that I didn't call) (there is always possibility finding a free table), but he told me that he will look and asked me if I was alone, I said that I am at the moment, but that my parents should join me soon and so I stood aside and waited for some feedback from him,but he was having fun with one table where three of them were sitting and he ignored me. I turned and left!!!! He probably thought I wouldn't spend much because he behaved like that !!!! I think that's very rude and unprofessional of a caterer who’s there as a owner.

I would like to start the answer with “Dear Ana”, But I can’t as that will be totally no respect to the really kind people from witch we are usually visited. 80 % of Your words are very bad leis. You arived on my family property with out to say a Hello. Opposite ,You start a conversation with asking me twice a “Are You a Boss” without explanation. In that moment ,in my family Restauran terrace was seating a 4 guests which booked a table two days in advance (one of the best Croatian wine makers with family and in company with bets Croatian Somelier .They also was wondering about the strange behavior of the young lady. In the same time I was waiting for onother two tables 6 + 4 persons which should arrive soon. One of that reservations was made one month in advance and other one just a day before. All of them are my regular guests. So first of all I need to care about the quality of service and food . To get that I (we ) need to have a guests not coming in the same time ,so we could have enough time and offer them unforgettable experience. So those guest respect us and I can say that they also respect themselves. Second what I want to say , Stermasi property is my and my family and we can decide who is enough kind to get our attention and to be our guests . And yes it’s true that I asked You finally are You alone ,because in 20 years we never but never said NO to the person who arrive alone to eat in our restaurant.Even if she/he was without reservation. With that words You hurt me very strong ,it is painfull .I am shore that in this moment by reading how hurt I am ,finaly You get a smile on Your face, So it is not about the money It’s just a bit about social intelligence . This evening we took in our restaurant two persons at 22:30 They ordered two portions of Pancakes and we had a pleasant conversation from beginning to the end. The difference between them and You was hugh .They behaved like the people should behave ,and was very simpatic young persons . Unfortunately You have been uncultured and suspicious,. All people(guests )who we will wait on the front of the door and will kindly say just a “ hello do You have a table for us “ would be kindly welcomed and will get all necessary information.Maybe they will get a table in 30 minutes and maybe not but will get explenation. As the lady Gaga said once “To behave nice,say hello,how are You or thank You so much,doesn’t cost any money. It is for free and can make some other people happy life . Or as we say in Croatia”Lijepa riječ I zlatna vrata otvara” Lady Ana Just one more thing,You have in totaly three reviews and all three extrimly negative. So I sugest You to start writing about places which statisfied You . And yes ,first what You will need to do is to reqd a book about the “etiquette” Bonton p.s I am shore that soon I will be Your customer as well , You will se me relaxed smiling and nice behaving but I am worried about what I can expect from You . Best food experience on Mljet

We had great experience at restaurant Stermasi, we have been accomodated at their beautiful apartments and had several dishes for lunch and dinner. Fresh fish is something you eat at place like this and it is amazing but what we were delighted is sphagetti, traditional Mljetski makaruli and sphagettini with sea urchin are MUST try. Carpaccio is very tasty if you like raw fish. Also there is very familiar atmosphere as restaurant is runned by family members and we really felt like home. Adrijan is very knowlagdeble for wines and he is pairing well wine with dine.

Great lunch

We had great lunch here. Everything we ate was sooo delicious (fish soup, fresh tuna steak, adriatic squid, anchovies and sardines, homemade bread, Dubrovačka rosata called "happy and"). We recommend also homemade liqueurs and Graševina krauthaker. Service was more then excellent and the view from restaurant unforgetablle.
