We stumbled across this pub whilst visiting the village and were greatly impressed. It had a super range of local beers and although we didn't eat there, the meals looked really good. The pub was comfortably furnished and also had a huge beer garden at the back. We would highly recommend it.

I had lunch in this pub. Overall it was good. I sat outside as I thought the inside was dark on a sunny day. We ordered fish and chips it was great I enjoyed. The service however was very slow indeed. I also they ran out of some items in the menu and they could not cater for large group... More

A lovely lunch in a very wheelchair friendly pub and garden. Wide doors and slopes into the pub and out into the garden with slab paving which made it easy to push the wheelchair around. My elderly parents were treated with respect and politeness and the waiter who served us went out of his way to communicate with them as... More

We had a day in Cambridge and we knew that all restaurants in Newmarket area, where we were staying, were booked because of the races, so we tried Granchester. The Red Lion was packed out at 5.15 pm on a Saturday, but we managed to get a table. We did not have high expectations but it turned out that the... More

I booked the Red Lion for 11 people for dinner on the evening of Friday 15th July 2016. We arrived to find we had been seated in the private dinning room (no extra charge) - probably because the realised we are noisy Australians - No just great service I reckon. We had a cross section of the menu; from the... More

This old Granchester Pub has been decorated no doubt to compete with its neighbour the refurbished Rupert Brooke. The latter looks like any chain suburban aspiring gastropub, tho food is said to be good. The Red Lion tho pleasant enough is far from the grimy Granchester 60 s image that regulars like and I suspect tourists too judging by the... More

We visited on a Saturday afternoon. The fish&chips was delicious. There was a bit of a delay taking the orders and getting drinks at first but once the food was ordered, it didn't take long at all. Lovely atmosphere and great food. Thumbs up.
