A great doing experience for me and my gf. The eel, fishes and filet were expertly done. The soup was a bit under seasoned, but the goose liver was one of the best I've had. Definitely a gem of a place. Be prepared to pay a high price though, of course. In my opinion it is well worth it. Enjoy, and don't miss the house dish - the eel of course

We drove here for lunch upon recommendation from staff at Jules Destroyer. It is less than 2k from the tour/factory and a lovely drive along the canal.
We sat outside on a spacious patio surrounded by gardens and a small pasture with lambs grazing. The staff was very friendly and while they are from the area with Dutch the native language, their English was perfect.
We each selected fish, pan fried sole and a braised white fish with seasonal vegetables in a fabulous light cream sauce! They served an artful Amuse-Buche while we waited for our lunch to appear.
While we were there, couples stopped in for coffee, lunch after biking along the canal as well as locals. A popular place!

We have been at De Hooipiete for at least ten years and still love it. Recently the younger generation has taken over but the "mother" of the house is very often there helping to keep things running. Her son reigns in the kitchen while Aukje,his wife, directs the dining room and terrace with grace (and speed!)
We invariably go for eel and enjoy it every time. Add to this a good wine list at reasonable prices and you are in for a nice evening.
Although we last were here on a busy Sunday evening we cannot complain of a slow service at all.
De Hooipiete has two rooms if one wants to stay and some GPS's will rather accept Pollinkhove as a location rather than Lo Reninge.
There is a huge carpark and the area is very good for walking and cycling.

We arrived by boat and decided to have dinner on Friday evening. This was a set menu with a buffet entree and a choice of 2 main meals plus 500ml of wine each. We thought this was good value at €40 a head considering the prices on the a la carte menu. I ordered eel (the restaurant specialty) in a mushroom and tomato sauce and my husband had steak and fries. What we didn't realise was this was a continuous supply. As we finished our plate the owner came back with more eel, steak and fries. While I had eaten more than enough on the first pass, my husband had two top ups! The staff were friendly, cheerful, trying to make jokes in English, which we appreciated. Dessert and coffee were extra but neither of us could fit that in. Also the wine was quite a good classic white from the Languedoc region of France

Unlike most of my reviews this time it is unfortunately not a positive one.
In a party of 4 all main dishes had little or no seasoning. A smile was difficult to find in some of the staff serving, refill of wine was scarce (wine paid by the bottle). These were just a few points which made our overall experience less than average.

A great and unique place to unwind... On arrival we were kindly welcomed. The room was clean and there was everything there for a short stay. The breakfast in the room was varied and certainly adequate. We also had dinner in the restaurant in the evening. My husband and I both had a salate with scampi. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
For the first time we came here, everything went very well. We'll be back for sure!
