We did go into Ypres to try and find something to eat but they had a big fun fair on in the centre of town and so everywhere was very busy.
Checked for restaurants outside the town and found D'Akkerhoeve in Lo-Reninge about 12 minutes’ drive away Ypres.
Cannot recommend the this restaurant highly enough a hidden gem off the beaten track.
Very friendly and helpful staff all speaking English and a fantastic selection of food with seating outside or inside, we were welcomed even though we did not book.
Their speciality was BBQ pork ribs but with a dry rub….100% superb….lots of meat on them and full of favour choice of a full or half rack. Also had a steak which was cooked exactly as requested, both with a bowl of chips to share.
Sweet desserts were just as good and the homemade chocolate mousse was excellent as was the ice cream with chocolate sauce.
A great selection of wines, beer and soft drinks for the driver.
We were not rushed at any time and it was lovely setting very well looked after.
Children are catered for with a permanent bouncy castle type of equipment but far enough away from the eating area to be observed by the parents but not to disturb the dinners.
Overall well kept, great food, great location 100% and will visit again.

Cozy restaurant in farmhouse style with checkered tablecloths. Friendly service. Very affordable and very large portions, you can't eat it all but you can take it home. The take away packaging could be better: just a paper bag that is just a little too small, luckily they added another bag so that the fat from the meat was retained somewhat. But otherwise great for ribs, white sausage, ham, etc...

Great restaurant in the quiet countryside. Meat speciality on the grill. Very generous dishes in quantity. Site suitable for children in base age.
