Tucked away inside the West Lodge Park Hotel, the Mary Beale Restaurant and Bar provides an elegant but unpretentious setting for any occasion. Enviably located close to Trent Park and Hadley Wood, the dining room is a traditionally stylish space with huge windows letting in plenty of natural light. Executive Chef Wayne Turner and his team use locally sourced produce to create seasonal British dishes and a selection of snacks and light options which are served in the bar. We recommend the organic salmon with dill risotto and the Sacombe Hill Farm beef fillet with mushroom gratin. Why not treat the family to the Mary Beale Restaurant's legendary Sunday lunch, or sample a glass or two from their excellent wine list?

A peaceful haven on the edge of town.

Always a pleasant dinner with very good quality food and drink at reasonable prices, with unobtrusive background music, and caring, attentive staff who have got the balance right between looking after customers and intruding. The restaurant complements the hotel and vice versa. This is as close as it gets to my ideal venue for staying and dining.

Met here recently for a business interview. Lovely surroundings and wonderful menu. It was quite busy and the meeting was held in the restaurant area so a little difficult to hear but that was my choice of location and not the venues fault. I saw plenty of areas near the reception that could have served that purpose well. The food... More

Yesterday our family group of five had lunch in the Mary Beale restaurant at West Lodge hotel. It was lovely! We were very well looked after by the staff, the food was delicious, and nothing was left on the plates, Dad even mopped up the sauce with the tasty bread they provided! We have eaten here before, but this was... More

This is the main dining room of the West Park Lodge hotel, nestled in a gloriously elegant arboretum, a stone's throw from Cockfosters, set back from the bustle of London. The Mary Beale restaurant (named after 'Britain's first professional woman artist', and still run by her descendants) reflects the olde worlde elegance that befits the venue - an historic country... Thank you for your very kind and detailed review of the Mary Beale Restaurant at West Lodge Park, I was delighted to read your comments. You are right that Mary Beale was Britain's first professional woman artist, living from 1633 to 1699. Sadly she never reached the pre-eminence that your countryman Anthony van Dyck achieved, but she gave her compatriots... More

We had a delightful afternoon tea here on a Sunday recently. £22 a head plus £6 for a glass of fizz. Great value, great food and great service. The location is fantastic, just near the M25 but you wouldn't think so from the quiet grounds and countryside setting. Plenty of parking with wheelchair access as well. There are a number... More

Gosh what a lovely review of the Mary Beale Restaurant, thank you so much. This is a great new year's boost to all the team. I am so glad we looked after you so well. The weather out there is foul at the moment, but West Lodge Park stays warm and cosy at this time of the year. However it... More

This is a restaurant is within a hotel and in general, a little disappointing unless the hotel is running a special event. Breakfast is average with most of it pre- prepared and left for long periods under heat lamps. The service is 'relaxed' and some what unpredictable. That said not everything to do is on the menu so if you don't... More

Thank you for your review of the Mary Beale Restaurant which I have discussed with all my colleagues at West Lodge Park Hotel. We are all slightly surprised with the rather downbeat tone of your review. For breakfast, we have a buffet for those that want to grab and go (the majority of our guests prefer this) but for those... More

Actually had a birthday party in a private room in the restaurant and the food was great. Also had afternoon tea there and had no complaints. Would recommend the restaurant. Summer time is best as has lovely grounds.

Thank you for your kind comments about afternoon tea at West Lodge Park, I am so glad everything went so well for you. After a Boxing Day walk we decided to pop into this local hotel rather than the couple of big chain options in the area which were open. "Hello," I said brightly as we entered the hotel, "are you serving tea?" I might as well have been asking for the moon. The member of staff looked us rather despairingly and said... More

Thank you for your review of West Lodge Park. I am sorry you were disappointed with your visit to the hotel. We serve afternoon tea for 363 out of the 365 days of the year, but don't offer it on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The reason is that our lunch guests are paying a high price to enjoy a... More

We ate at the Mary Beale last night (19.12). 4 courses, absolutely excellent food, welcoming, discreet and attentive service from Shalini and other staff. Comfortable and stylish with a lovely ambience which was topped off by the wonderful music played by the pianist Paul with a fabulous repertoire. Best value inside the M25 for fine dining and would highly recommend... More
