Aahhhhh. You can almost hear the collective sigh of relief amongst the local community. After 2 years of clueless management, the Bakehouse has new proprietors and has returned to its former glory. Very friendly, efficient service, delicious food and a convivial atmosphere. I have visited on 3 occasions since it reopened and came away happy every time. Highlight so far... More

Went back to the Old Bakehouse a few weeks ago following its long spell of decline - and delighted to find that it's back on course again to be a destination restaurant for the area south of Edinburgh. Good food, lively atmosphere, service a little raw around the edges but will improve. Great to find we can recommend it again... More

Finally got around to trying the bakehouse again and were not disappointed. Everyone was really friendly, but the food was excellent. We had Cullen skink, and a warm chicken salad and then I had the burger and Emma the chicken burger. Food really was great. So glad we have a quality restaurant back.

We stumbled across this restaurant as we were walking from our rented cottage. We decided to book a meal at the restaurant and we weren't disappointed. I ordered the blue cheese, walnut and pear salad and my husband ordered soup of the day, both starters were excellent. Our main course was locally reared steak which I have to say was... More

Although the restaurant was very busy due to local festivities, we were very well looked after and received a warm welcome from the proprietor. We went for a main course and shared pud which was just right. The wine list was small but perfectly formed, and we had a very good bottle of Val de Loire Pinot Noire, which went... More

There are those who say the bakehouse is back to how it used to be, but as a regular for many years, and through several custodians, my view is that it is now better than ever. This is now a quality restaurant. I was critical in Fiona's day of the tendency to sacrifice quality for quantity, so we all left... More

Had given up coming here as such bad experiences since change of ownership a couple of years ago. We used to be regulars bringing friends and American relatives as we were assured of excellent food and ambience. All that changed. But now it's back to its former glory. The food was faultless, we all agreed on that and the service... More

Excellent dining experience from cocktails at the seating lounge, starters, mains, wine, and desserts. Very classy place. Friendly staff and Ian made us comfortable and welcome.
