We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at this pub. Lovely countryside pub, which seems to be popular with locals, particularly people with dogs (and tourists like us!). We had the roast lamb which was so tasty and a big portion size at that. The staff...were all polite and efficient. Overall great atmosphere - would definitely return when next I’m in the area.More

Went for food with my girlfriend and her sister. We had a lovely meal. The pub was serving Old Rosie Cider which was a definite plus. The was a singer later on in the evening and she was great. Would recommend a visit.

A lovely cotswold country pub well off the beaten track, in fact track is about right very narrow single tracks lead to this pub but it is well worth it, great welcoming staff and the food was excellent with a good selection of well kept...beers. Big portions of scampi and burger excellent value for money.More

Delicious vegan burger and vegan risotto. The risotto is probably the best I've ever had. Unfortunately the only vegan dessert was a sorbet though

We were staying in the village and booked a couple of hours in advance. We were greeted on arrival and shown to a table in the side bar. Plenty of space between tables. Atmospheric place. The staff were stretched, but maintained service with a smile....The food was simple pub fare from good ingredients. Portions are big. We were happy.More

We tried to go to this pub (walking down into Sheepscombe from our campsite - it’s a hilly walk but manageable) on a bank holiday only to find it was closing early. We had tried to phone ahead but the phone wasn’t answered (as they...were very busy) and their online info hadn’t been updated. So make sure it’s open before you set off. The staff were lovely though and we decided to book for later in the week. It’s a pub with great pub food and really great service. Beware that the portion sizes are huge and we ended up wasting lots (mainly chips).More

Shame As l walked in the sign said Wait here to be seated so l went to the bar as l only wanted a pint outside .. l didn’t therefore require seatingwhereby l was rudely told "We have a system”can you wait over there and...l will bring you drinks menu outside So l replied “ I’m sat up the steps out back” “ l won’t be bringing it there!”was the reply “ lwon’t be having anything then” I don’t understand why someone running a pub should want to alienate customers.l will of course return but only when the present incumbent moves on, which will surely just be a matter of timeMore

We had heard a lot about this pub and visited in order to have a drink and food and to book Sunday lunch whilst staying in the area . We have never felt more unwelcome when we walked in the door! Two members of staff...on the floor the woman had the warmth and personality of a snow pea ! And the guy would be more suited to a prison officer ! Consequently we didn’t book ! Need to polish up on you welcome techniques ! It said you try to welcome every guest ! Nothing !!! Staff had zero personality !’ Such a shame !!! Painswick Hotel it is then ……….More

Having been a handful of times, the consistency is on point. Everything from booking, the welcome, general customer service, food, variety of drinks and overall feel at this lovely and secluded country pub is great! Beef and Stilton pie - a favorite in our house,...the roasts are great and guest beers are plenty!!More

We visited on Christmas Day for lunch, it was our first experience of going away and having Christmas dinner out and we will certainly be doing it again. The communication between Mark and myself in the run up to Christmas was excellent. The menu had...a great variety of options to choose from, I struggled to decide between starters. Upon arrival, mark welcomed us in, the pub itself is everything we hoped for, a typical Cotswolds, traditional pub. The Christmas decor complimented the venue so well. We had a drink before starting our meal, we didn’t feel rushed which was great. My husband had the duck salad and I was presented with the other two starters-I thought it was a mistake but it was simply kindness from mark and his team as they knew I couldn’t decide! The cheese starter was simply delicious, and the smoked salmon with beetroot was so fresh. We both had turkey as a main, a fantastic portion size and wonderful veggies on the side. I must mention the bread sauce as it was divine - and mark told us the chef felt it so important to have as an accompaniment! We were both so full after devouring the main but ploughed through to dessert. The Christmas pudding was perfectly cooked with a delicious custard, my husband had the cheese which was a great selection. We were both delighted by the meal, and the fact we didn’t have to do any washing up. I cannot recommend mark and his team more, if every meal is like their Christmas Day, they deserve every star possible. We hope to come back again soon to try something else!More

Really beautiful cosy pub tucked away in the Cotswolds. The food was excellent, and the choice of beers was really good. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Lanes to the pub are narrow but there are plenty of spots to pass. If you are...a nervous driver you are better heading in from Birdlip rather than Painswick. Highly recommend and we will be back.More

Was disappointed to be greeted by the manger being told to ‘move along’ and then shuffled into the dining area. He said that we were to be served at the table. He then greeted locals at the bar removing his mask and chatting with them...at the bar. After we had finished the meal he then opened the back door and sent us out that way. I found his manner rather rude and it was embarrassing. Plus our friends have visited this pub many times, but I’m not sure I’d go back in a hurry! Food was served promptly and was tasty so no fault there and the waitress was nice.More

I’m sorry you were unintentionally made to feel awkward, but to add some context, * Mark removed his mask to speak as the local at the bar is deaf. * Mark opened the nearest exit door to you because an elderly local in the bar...More

What a fantastic evening meal we had at this pub, everything about this place is just perfect (well except the road to it) a little tight in places which my wife didn’t like much, but worth doing to get there. We booked a table late...in the day, arrived early evening, four of us and our dog. As soon as we stepped inside we were looked after by our host and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. The food menu has plenty of choice without over doing it, the drinks menu is extensive with a good choice of real ales and beers. We all had great food, my wife had a taster of her dish before deciding (another great touch) and even our dog had his own dish of sausages. I had the best Pork Belly dish (from the specials menu) I’ve ever tasted, coming from Reading you won’t get a serving of this size and flavour anywhere close to it where I live. This is the perfect excuse to visit my daughter at University more often. I would just like to say a huge thank you to the owners for such good food and service and for making us feel so relaxed, especially with our dog in tow who was catered for just as well as us. If you’re in the area or not, either way it’s well worth a visit.More

We were lucky to get a table as we arrived at a busy time and had not booked. All the staff were really friendly and we initially had a drink on a high table but were able to get a lower down table to eat....We both had the beef, red wine and Stilton pie (pie of the week) It was absolutely delicious! Really large portions so unfortunately we did not have room for dessert (this is obviously not a criticism!) The pub has a lovely atmosphere with traditional decor. We walked from Cranham as part of a circular national trust walk. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be returning. There were so many things on the menu we could have chosen. Thankyou for fitting us in!More

Yes, they are allowed in a certain area. It is probably worth booking to make sure your table is in the dog friendly area!
