The food is truly awful and nothing short of a "Ramsay Nightmare" !! I ordered a homemade Lasagna, absolutely disgusting!! Fat chunky mince with no tomato sauce or white sauce and then they grated cheese over it and microwaved the hell out of it! Yuck!! Chips were homemade with no taste and soggy, My Husband had the chicken curry and... More

It's one of those classic western scenes; you walk into the bar and immediately the music stops and all eyes turn in your direction. Yes, it's a local pub. And you are most definitely, and obviously, not one of them. Now, either once you cross the threshold they actually turn out to be friendly and welcoming, or assess you throughout... More

We were staying in Dolwyddelan for a long weekend family celebration and decided to try the local pub for a drink and some food. The beers were excellent, but what did excel was the food. I chose Fish and Chips as it was the special for the night in question. Well, this meal could have given the Magpie in Whitby... More

Organised a walk from Roman Bridge to Betws y Coed and planned to stop at Y Gwdyry for lunch. On arrival found that it did not open until 6pm. Luckily a local directed us to the old cricket pavilion where the volunteers made us delicious sausage or tuna sandwiches and home baked cake.

Found The Gwydyr, this great little of a country pub on the road back from Betws Y Coed. Although it doesn't look very special from the outside the food is excellent and the man behind the bar was very friendly. The potion sizes were large but the bill was not, it was great value for money. The great thing about... More

Small but perfectly formed this is a lovely pub and restaurant. The staff were really friendly and the food was delicious. The portions were very generous and a free ice cream was given for my child too which was a lovely and unexpected touch. Dogs are allowed in the bar but not the dining room. The dining tables were a... More

We were staying in Dolwyddelan and went to the Y Gwydyr pub in the village for a meal. The food was excellent and the Landlord and staff were very hospitable. It was so good, we went back there instead of going into Betws-y-coed for a meal. I had the chicken & chips twice as it was so good. The other... More

My wife, son, and I were visiting friends in the UK. Upon arriving at Manchester airport, they picked us up and whisked us away to Wales. We checked in at a small little cottage literally a 2 minute walk down the road. The day we arrived (Thursday), it appeared the pub was closed when we were looking for a spot... More

We stopped here on the way back from climbing Snowdon, so understandably we were quite hungry. We got a warm welcome from the barman and both ordered the special Lamb burger. When it came out it looked delicious. The burger was juicy and hot and the chips homemade. Portion size was great - neither of us managed to finish which... More

My first visit, food was superb and very large portion. Friendly staff, good atmosphere and Purple Moose beer on draft - dog friendly too! Highly recommended, could do with a pub like this in my village.
