Always get a great meal at the Terrace, service was a little slow Tuesday night, not sure if they were understaffed or it was the big group in the other room, but food seemed to take FOREVER to come out. It was good though. You can also eat at the little bar at the top of the steps too which we do sometimes.

The food here was terrific, and we focused on some island specialties, including the luxurious mac and cheese they are well known for, as well as some delicious lobster. We chalked it up to the night of Christmas, and general business of the island this year, but we were 30 minutes late seated for our reservation and then basically ignored for another 30 minutes without even a drink order being taken. The result was eating our first bite of food at 9.20pm after an 8pm reservation. The service was fairly slow the rest of the meal as well, so it made for a late evening. That having been said, the food was delightful and all the fish and steak preparations were top-notch, and ultimately that's what counts the most! Would definitely come here again, just maybe not on an actual holiday and not late-ish in the evening!

We visited on Saturday, July 11,2020 with a 6:30 reservation and were seated promptly. The reservation was made a few days in advance and a representative from the restaurant called us at 5 pm that evening to confirm which impressed me. I know that seems like something simple but it gives you comfort knowing before you go to the location that they'll be ready to greet and seat you. Service was good, the food was excellent. This is by far the most organized, friendly restaurant with the best food in Cruz Bay. It's worth a few extra $$'s to have the best. My husband had the Mac & Cheese with chicken and I had the filet. All the food was served HOT and everything was cooked to perfection. We have already made another reservation for this week. Glad we found this restaurant!

We have been traveling to St. John for 16 years and have frequented the Terrace many times. This was our first trip since Irma devastated the Island and our first experience with the restaurant under the current ownership. It was my birthday dinner and I asked the waitress for a recommendation. She suggested the lamb which I ordered medium rare. When it came out it was completely over cooked, well-done. For a $52 lamb entree my expectation was that it would be cooked the appropriate temperature so I requested a new one. Rather than being apologetic, the waitress immediately gave me attitude and begrudgingly took my dish. I then waited an hour while the rest of my party ate their meals before my next lamb arrived. This one was fatty and rare, obviously the worst cut of meat that they had and completely undercooked, probably intentionally. I was disgusted at this point and told the waitress that she could take the lamb back and I had lost my appetite. Here is where it got really bad. The manager came to the table to tell me that he would be charging me for at least one lamb entree. I told him that I didn’t agree but would pay for it if it was on the bill. Fifteen minutes later, he once again approached the table and decided to tell me that he would in fact be charging me and then stood over us, lecturing me that the first lamb was perfectly fine and that I should have never sent it back. I literally had to ask him to leave our table, interrupting his lengthy tirade. I could not believe the appalling approach to customer service: charging a customer for bad food then berating them for the gall of refusing to eat it. Adding insult to injury, when we received our bill we were charged $3 extra for each drink we ordered that had ice in it! Stay away from the Terrace!!!

The ambience was enjoyable but the waitress was not sociable and made poor decisions. Two of the three entrees had to be sent back due to being undercooked. We requested medium for a pink center and it came back dark red. Once they were returned she dropped them off without even confirming to see if they were correctly cooked. The steak still wasn't worth the price. The lamb chops came back with significantly less sauce and when I requested more they charged me $4 for the extra ounce on the final bill without letting me know when I asked. In addition we had to ask 3 times before they refilled our water. Their world famous mac and cheese was tasty but not worth the price, especially since they up charge you for every single item (e.g. mushrooms $6+, chicken $10+) There's mac and cheese elsewhere on the island for significantly less. Would not recommend.

Food was delicious, but there is a built in 20% gratuity for parties of 5 or more and there was very little effort made to earn it. My lamb was served practically raw - had to send it back twice. There were about 5 bites of meat for $52. Don’t rush. There was drama over asking for a second piece of bread.

This is the worst restaurant we tried on St John in past 6 days. Server was so rude. She just insulted us. Food absolutely not worth against the prices they are charging. It is just ridiculous. This is a fine dining restaurant and they charged us for extra piece of bread.. this was too much.. Now I am well aware the overall prices across the island. I am comparing this restaurant with Ocean 362 which was way way better in terms of food quality and service offered. (Ocean 362 gave us complementary wine for delay in entrees that too we without asking them to do so). I would never come back here neither recommend to anyone.

We love the terrace but on the evening of feb 20 with our party of 6 it was not a good night. We had a horribly inattentive server who was either stoned or just the worst server ever. She left us waiting forever at every turn and would just be sitting at the waiters area staring into space while her tables were all trying to get her attention. She didn’t seem to notice when we had one of meals not come out for 15 minutes after the rest of the table got theirs. She also didn’t seem to notice us flagging her down when we were waiting 20 minutes for refills on drinks and water. The food was delicious as always but the service is what makes or breaks a a restaurant and this server definitely didn’t do the restaurant any favors that night. I will say the last two time before we had the nicest young server with reddish hair. This time she was older with dark hair and zero personality.

Wife and I had dinner here. Great place - staff was super helpful and the food was great. I especially liked that the chef came to our table several times. The baked camembert appetizer was amazing! Main courses were excellent too. The melted chocolate desert, whatever it was actually called on the menu, was really delicious. We paid around $100 including tip for two people for two appetizers, two main courses, one desert, and a bottle of water (no alcohol or other drinks). Money well spent!

The owner, who greets everyone, knows nothing of customer service. e tries to intimidate and bully you. His wife is the chef. They lied to both of us on the phone that they were handicap accessible (if you call 16 curved stone steps accessible). He single handedly ruined what could have been a nice meal. An arugula salad was ordered and mixed greens were brought (allergic to this). When we sent it back the owner told the waiter to say it was a "special" island arugula. The owner made an ugly scene in the process. Avoid this NIGHTMARE restaurant and the owner's racist bias at all costs!!!

Creative and yummy cocktails. Best we saw/had on the island. Ordered the scallops appetizer for like $18 and it came with 2 tiny scallops. They were amazing, but felt way overly priced and a rip off tbh. But the entrees were great and so was the service and the view. The overpriced apps make this a 4-star.

As a solo traveler I decided to order takeout, which has been a positive during COVID-19, most of the nicer restaurants are allowing takeout and it is prepared in a very reasonable time. The restaurant was packed and yet my tuna only took 5 min. It took longer for the bartender to come over and take more order (hence the 4 stars) but the quality of the meal was fantastic even though takeout. Would highly recommend if looking for fresh seafood! Great ambience if you are looking to get a table but would highly recommend getting a reservation. No bar seating and very unlikely to get a table if you just walk in. That being said I just walked in and it took about 15 min to order and get my takeout food for one.

The hostess has serious attitude. We had reservations and requested a table along the rail but were told those are first come first serve, I can totally understand that. When we arrived, we were seated in this really dirty dumpy back room with no view. Since there were several tables along the rail with a view open, we asked to move, but were rudely told those were reserved...??? Waited 10 minutes for water!! My opinion is if you want to be rude and treat customers like crap, then your food better really be good! It wasn’t. Scallops were half raw. Tuna is tasteless and served with tomatoes, which doesn’t go together at all. Chocolate dessert not worth it at all.

We all enjoyed our dinners and the wine and service were good, but the evening was a 'bust' due to blaring music from The Beach Bar across the street with one of the worst rock bands we have heard in ages playing at ear-shattering levels. Pleasant conversation at the table was difficult, and we kept praying for a break. We hope the owner and chef can reach some "reasonable noise level" agreement with both nearby bars so that we can try again to enjoy the French-influenced cuisine.

The male hostess, which may have been the owner, was incredibly rude to us tonight. We had a reservation for two that we made in January. Upon arrival he sat us at a table by the entrance booth. We had been told through previous emails that our table was confirmed for the inside dining area. My husband politely asked if we could be moved further along the porch away from the entrance. The male worker began to explain to us that they were fully booked for the night and could not accommodate table changes (although there were a few empty tables for 2). I stated that we had made these reservations a month in advance since we know how popular they are. He told us we could leave if we were not happy because he had a long waiting list and didn’t need us to say. I actually clarified what he was saying because I couldn’t believe a restaurant owner would speak to a customer this way: I would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. Why would anyone spend money at a restaurant that makes you feel like they are doing you a favor? In addition, when we visited last February 2021 we ate during a rainstorm and the roof was leaking above us and the same man tried to keep moving our seats to avoid the rain dripping through their roof that is in disrepair. Not even a free drink on the house or a slice of cake as a sorry. Shame on us for going there a second time. Done with The Terrace!

Thank you for your feedback. You were originally reserved a tale in the dining room, as we had no available terrace seating at the time you made your reservation. A table on the terrace opened up and we moved you outside as most people prefer. Most people would be happy with this. You were not. Our other tables were reserved in advance of your reservation. Thats how it works. If you are going to complain about what table you are at (a better table than originally reserved) we are not interested in your business. The folks without a reservation that were promptly seated at the table that was not good enough for you were gracious and thrilled to have gotten a table. Said it was the best meal of the trip.
