THE BEST SALADS ON THE ISLAND

i’ve visited the north shore deli on St. John as a representative of Saint Ursula‘s episcopal church. We were having a church function that was going to be a afternoon affair With about 25 to 30 people. We had a limited budget and Ron at the deli was able to accommodate us with four salads. We had tuna chicken potato and pasta salad. It was the best thing that happened, a really big hit, the salads were excellent and enjoyed by all. We will definitely be doing this again and I recommend that everyone try those salads.

Great for beach lunch

Our beach lunch was great and I will go back for this reason, but the man running the register was incredibly rude and obviously enjoys his “power”. Asking for extra dressing affronted him. He seems to think he’s in a place where visitors are resigned to the famous misery of the residents, ( you know who you are and it’s nothing to be proud of) This kind of thing doesn’t pass muster where people are coming for good food and courteous service. However, the young man doing the rest of the work was especially nice,friendly, and polite. He was more mature and wise than his coworker. The food was good. We had the Asian chicken salad, the American salad, and the Greek salad. The bread was stale on the PB and honey. We will go back for lunch to go and also the grab and go selections of chicken salad, peanut noodle salad,etc. We have be been going here since the days when it was The Deli Grotto, and have always loved it. I hope this unhappy person changes his attitude because it’s just inappropriate and brings down an otherwise great little spot.

Great sandwiches to take to the beach!

We stopped here twice on our recent visit to St. John to pick up sandwiches to take to the beach for lunch. They were all wonderful and such a great selection of meats, cheeses, etc.. We brought a couple of soft sided coolers with us which was really nice to have. Our Villa had a couple of very large hard sided coolers as well. We got our bags of ice at the Starfish Market.

Small sandwiches for the price

Not cheap for sandwiches here, we usually use Sam and Jacks but decided to try North Shore as it's on the way to the North Shore beaches. We called ahead and preordered. Sandwiches were good, but much smaller than Sam and Jacks for roughly the same price. Place was pretty packed though.

Great breakfasts and lunches!

We liked North Shore Deli so much, we not only had breakfast and lunch there, but also got several takeout foods, including curry chicken salad, potato salad and cole slaw. Everything we got there was fresh and very well made. My eggs (over easy) were perfect and the homemade smoked turkey hash was outstanding. Highly recommend!

A Year In The Making

I booked a cruise to St Thomas in Nov. 2018 with plans to visit St. John. I grew up in Philadelphia, the home of some of the best sandwiches/hoagies on planet Earth. I found North Shore Deli online and put on my calendar that on 12/31/2019 I would finally taste from their incredible menu! And, was it ever worth the wait! I had #7 - the Pirate Piggy and it was magic in a bun, heaven on the tongue, sent my taste buds to dancing! These folks delivered! If you go visit St. John for no other reason, the North Shore Deli is 100% worth the trip! We are already planning a week long trip to St. John and I will most assuredly eat my way through their menu!

Was excited to try after getting a welcome basket at our house that had some excellent items from the deli. Will not try again and recommend others to stay away. Portions were a joke. The Italian had one slice of salami, prosciutto, capicola, provolone and a couple slivers of banana peppers and roasted red peppers. On top of that they had the nerve to include a mandatory tip on the bill for counter service that we had to wait for!

Never Heard of Customer Service

This deli gets 1 star only because the food is ok (3-4). My 70-year old wife had a very bad experience 2 days in a row here with 1 particular employee who treated her with disrespect. I’ve been married to this woman for 36 years and I know she is nothing but courteous, friendly and appreciative of locals wherever we travel. But she had the audacity to ask for extra Mayo on my sandwich. Apparently that was too much for this jerk. He copped an attitude with my wife and I ended up with a Mayo sandwich and she and I ended up with everything else on the sandwich she specifically asked not to have. I guess he showed us. I hope this guy is the owner because, if not, he should be fired today!

Great sandwiches and Cold salads

Great sandwiches and cold salads. We shared two sandwiches which were awesome and then got a cold curry chicken salad, potatoe salad and deviled eggs. Awesome vibe and super nice and friendly people. Would definitely recommend grabbing food here and taking it to go to the beach too!

Great sandwiches

We stopped here last week for breakfast sandwiches as well as sandwiches to take with us to the airport. I had called them in and they were ready when I got there. Breakfast sandwiches were delicious as well as the home fries. Coffee was tasty as well. My wife and I each got the smoked turkey bacon sandwiches for the airport and they were excellent! The sandwiches were so filling we wound up splitting one of the coconut crack bars that we bought. We also got an Italian sandwich to have when we arrived home. We also split the other coconut crack bar. We always enjoy the sandwiches and service at North Shore Deli. Looking forward to our next visit next year.

This place has saved my life

This place has saved my life several times, with fresh, delicious, nourishing food to keep me set for a day at the beach. I’m in and out in a few minutes with speedy and attentive service. The tall red-headed man (Ron?) was so friendly and helpful. Given the crazy conditions and how busy they are, it is quite impressively pleasing to see this place thriving with quality and efficiency.

Great sandwiches. We bought for a beach day. They were super helpful as we wanted to split ours so they suggested switching from chiabatta to a sub. Great advice! Also salads, chips, juices, pop and beer available. We will be back!

Deli and establishment 5/5 but Ron gets a 0/5

While visiting with 7 family members, we stumbled upon this deli. Food was 10/10. The first day we were helped by Jeffrey and he was was a 10/10. Gave us recommendations, helped with any questions we had and truly made us feel welcomed. We loved the food and atmosphere of the deli, we came back the next day! Unfortunately we were helped by a man named Ron, who did NOT give us the time of day. Treated us like we were simple another dollar to be earned and did not care about the service that was given out. He was rude, disrespectful and overall unpleasant to be around. We came back 4 days in a row and each day Ron displayed the same dissatisfaction. We were a group of 7, buying breakfast and lunch every day and he displayed the same rude attitude every day. Everyone is allowed to have a bad day, but that man is truly unpleasant. But, look for Jeffrey! He is the absolute best! Get the Taiwanese noodles and the chicken salad!

We got breakfast and lunch at the North Shore deli almost daily on our 9 day trip in March, 2022. We called ahead for take-out and it was ready when we got there. Nice staff. Highly recommend.

Great sandwiches; perfect to pack for beach trip

The sandwiches here are excellent! We ordered some to go from their store in Mongoose Junction and packed them along on our hike to Honeymoon Beach via the Lind Point Trail. Highly recommend the smoked turkey & bacon sandwich. They also provide the lunch for full-day Arawak Expedition excursions. Great then too!
