About
As one approaches the 1729 House, the tan one across from Fort Christiansvaern Park, the Galangal sign, made from wine corks by a patron, is hardly visible from the street. Opening the aubergine door is almost magical as one steps inside an elegant white-table dinning room filled with original paintings and Indo-Colonial architectural elements. Sitting down at the cool, dry granite bar, one just knows their Martini is going to be ice cold and the red wine will be at 65 degrees. Galangal specializes in authentic modern Thai and French cuisine, combining traditional ingredients with international flavors and techniques. Freshness is the key to Galangal's bold flavors and consistent quality. Spices

Hard to review, because this was our second visit to Galangal, and it was like the first--absolutely fantastic food, but spotty service, tiny portions, seemed kinda pricey for such small portions, etc. I'd say if you have not been to this restaurant, definitely try it--the...food is interesting and delicious. But we walked out feeling like it should have been a 10/10 but just fell a little short......More

Great spot for something a little different in St Croix. We arrived a few minutes early for our 530 reservation (first seating so they weren’t quite open) but Arthur greeted us with a smile and insisted we sit down and have a drink. Wine was...delicious, green curry was excellent and steamed snapper was perfection. Also had flourless chocolate cake and creme brûlée for dessert, both were great. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, but Arthur really made us feel special. Bringing our wine, checking on us, stopping by to chat. He makes you feel like you’re having dinner in his home.More

Definitely a step above most of the local dinner sites in town! The decor is tasteful and attractivewith imported antique panels, life-size terra cotta warrior copies at the entrance — to name just a couple of things…A fusion of Japanese, Thai, Chinese Korean and French....Delightful, subtle flavors. Worth many visits to sample the whole menu.More

Beautiful restaurant, attentive staff, excellent food. A true fine dining experience in a relatively casual (but still upscale) environment. I had the Pad Thai, one of my favorite dishes, and it was the best I’ve ever had. Seemed to be a favorite for locals as...well. Each dish is customizable to your preferred heat level. Wonderful!More

I do not understand where a restaurant comes off with charging $18 for a Martini and its in a small martini glass. Same with an on the rocks drink $16 and a false bottonmglass to make it look bigger. Also they charge $8 for flat...water but dont tell you upfront.. I hope they do well gouging customers to the extreme. Think about it $68 if you have 2 drinks apiece. Ridiculous. Actually the most expensive drinks Ive encountered on the island the last two months. Food is OK $28 for a curry bowl but over priced for the food content. On one dish what they advertised in the dish was missing. Service is poor. There are too many fair and good Restaurants on island. I cross this one off my listMore

There is everything to like about Galangal. The decor is attractive, the food excellent, and the service competent and friendly. There is an excellent wine list. We have been dining at Galangal since it opened in 2009. Hands down, without exaggeration, Galangal, is the best...restaurant on the island.More

Overall the food was great. we had to send the snapper back to be cooked thoroughly. The server was terrible, no personality, never addressed our empty wine glasses. Actually she never showed up for the most part. She was our server about a year ago...and was not good then and just horrible this time. Once we finished dinner, she stood at the bar and never stopped to see if we needed anything. The owner brought over the re-cooked snapper and we asked him for another round of drinks and well that never happened. So taking my mother out for her 78th birthday was just an ok experience. The food overall was amazing, the service was again sub-par.( we had the same server LY, and she has no personality, short and has a lack of customer service). I'll be honest here, she should be serving at a cracker barrel based on the lack of any attention. Honestly it will take a lot to make me go back to a place we loved so much.More

Do yourself a favor and eat at Galangal! The seafood items were amongst the freshest on the island and exquisitely prepared. Don't short change yourself and get a few appetizers because they are so creative and perfectly savory. Some really unique wines as well. The...service was that of professional fine dining with a welcoming tone. Our waitress (I wish I remembered her name) made our experience very special. Lastly, look at my amazing icecube hand crafted by the bartender! I look forward to eating there when I return!More

We were really excited to try Galangal based on reviews, but our experience was a bit mixed. The service was really quite good and we were seated promptly. We had the Satay for appetizer and that was also quite good. The entrees were quite disappointing....I had the curry and while they ask you to designate what spice you want on a scale of 1-10 ( I chose 5), there was literally no heat in the dish. My wife had the short ribs and they were extremely salty- likely due to the soy sauce braise. The coconut creme brulee was a nice finish and while we really wanted to like this more, the best word I can offer is mixed.More

We visited the island in August, during COVID and, like many places, they seemed to be struggling to get enough staff, so service was a bit erratic. I don't mind waiting for my food, but please bring us what we actually ordered. They offered to...replace it, but we went ahead and ate it. It was very tasty. A nice mix of tastes, and a welcome change from the otherwise fairly ordinary fare on the island. The space is very comfortable and intimate with warm colours and decorations.More

Galangal is one of our absolute FAVORITE dinner place on island. Amazing appetizers & dinner dishes. Outstanding mussels with incredible sauce that was so good, we ordered side of rice to soak up every last drop. Enjoyed the lamp chop dinner special that was fantastic....The pinot noir wine we had was sooo delicious that we also got a bottle to go. Our server Nick was super friendly & helpful. Everything we've tried on the menu over the past several years has been outstanding. Cheffing, service, and wine selection are ALL top notch. Dining room ambience is wonderful! Highly recommend this must go to restaurant when you come on island!More

Very beautiful decor with thai wood carvings and a nearly secret entrance to the bathroom. No it's not secret it has such a decorative door that you would not immediately know it was the bathroom entrance. The food was very good. My kids, teenage gourmands,...absolutely love the braised beef short ribs. They let me have just a few bites because it was absolutely delicious. The red curry was a bit spicy, but I have princess mouth. All the ingredients were tremendously fresh. All in all good food in a very romantic setting.More

Dear Management, In response to you, regarding my review - There was no issue with the service at your restaurant, as you suggest, other than the fact that I would not say it was overly friendly when we came in to pick up our food. I understand that many restaurants charge an additional amount for take-out items, however, we typically still tip 15-20%, even on our take-out items. This time was no different. Since we have been to your restaurant several times before, we are familiar with your portion sizes - the amounts we received were atypical...particularly with the Thai Holy Basil with Beef. Trip Advisor did not choose to post the photo I took of this item. It was a very scant portion, to say the least - I do not like your implication that we are unaware of your portion sizes, nor do I appreciate your 'tone' in implying that this meal was typical of your entree portions received (whether in a take out item or as a sit down customer). The amount of rice for 2 entrees was also very small and atypical of our previous experiences in your establishment. As for the quality of our meal, the Pad Thai was tasteless (I asked for medium spice and it had none) and the Red Curry was also bland (with medium spice requested). The reason I wrote this review is for your establishment to be aware of the fact that the quality of our meal was subpar. This is the only way you can improve - unless you feel you are above improvement?
