We dined at The Great House twice during our stay at Nisbet Plantation. Both experiences were a delight. We enjoyed dining on the screen porch while listening to the crickets. The food is delicious and the menu changes daily offering something for everyone. The service...is excellent. We enjoyed live music in the lounge following dinner.More

We had a pleasant evening at the Great House. We've been traveling to the islands for the past 25 years, and when we started, jackets and pants were required of the gents during evening meals at most white table cloth restaurants. Although the dress codes...are now relaxed a bit, the feel of the place reminded me of the old days. We were warmly greeted at the door, and welcomed with the sounds of live calypso music from the lounge area. The food was excellent, but for the quality of my steak, which was choice at best, but still flavored and cooked to perception. My wife had the Tiki Massala which she found excellent, although she thought she had ordered Chicken Marsala (she forgot her glasses) :) We finished with the CremBrule and Pecan Pie and both were exceptional. Overall a great evening and perhaps the most attentive and warm staff we experienced on the island. We look forward to our next visit!More

The Great House is a fine dining experience in Nevis that you can enjoy as a twosome or with a larger group. I went thinking I'd have a nice quiet dinner with my companion but ended up having dinner with new friends! This was a...nice surprise but the kind of thing that's common at a restaurant like The Great House. It's so easy to meet people here over appetizers and drinks in the lounge. There are 2 sides to the lounge/bar area that are super cozy with lots of couches. The walls are decked with photographs of repeat guests and their families, celebrities who once graced the property and decor that will surely spark a conversation about Nisbet Plantation's history. You'll be seated in a fanciful room with nice white table cloths that always indicate a restaurant takes its food seriously. And this place sure does! My table overlooked Nisbet Beach (most of them do) and I could hear the Nevisian frogs chirping from outside (this is normal for Nevis and such a comforting sound). Try and get there for sunset and have a dry martini while you're at it (they're very good) so you can have something beautiful to look at before nightfall. The menu is a nice balance of seafood, poultry and meat dishes. I recommend their broccoli cheddar soup and grilled salmon entree. But I can't be certain they'll be available since the chef likes to change things up pretty often. The poached shrimp cocktail is spectacular too (it comes with a tropical pico de gallo). The portions here are generous, so come hungry! This is the type of restaurant I know my family would love because everyone would find something they like on the menu. You may very well run into Tim and Tina Thuell at The Great House. They are the managers of the Nisbet Plantation Beach Club. They're sweet as can be, so welcoming and want to make sure everything about your dinner and stay at the hotel (if you happen to be visiting as a guest) is perfect. I found out they've worked at some of the best inns and hotels in the world, and they've been residents of Nevis for many years which means they've got a lot of skin in the game. The staff love them, and from what I saw they embody the aura of Nisbet, which is a place you bring your family to for unforgettable moments. Like I said, this is a family place. Dress nicely. It's not uptight here at all but has a country club like feel. After dinner, stick around for an apertif and laughing the night away. This is exactly what I did :)More

From the time you are greeted at the front door until you leave you are treated as if you were the only one dining! The hospitality and atmosphere is genuine and wonderful. They make you feel like you have stepped back in time and are...the "Lord of the Manor". The menu changes daily and is very inviting. The offerings and preparation are the best in the Caribbean. Kudos to the Chef and everyone in the kitchen. After dinner I suggest you visit the Great House Cocktail Lounge for a nightcap. Dan or Kaddie will take good care of you in a very relaxing atmosphere. Oh, and please tell Roslyn who will meet you at the door that Hal says hello! She and all the staff are the nicest people you will ever meet!More

Dinner on Thursday evening at the buffet was worth every penny spent. If the freshly grilled fish, steak, shrimp, muscles, & chicken is not enough.... the sides, salads, and desserts will get you. Ms. Roslyn and her staff took great care of us. Definitely worth...the price and a return trip!More

This place depicts the island of Nevis, very peaceful, quiet, relaxing, and calm. I stayed very close to here and this was a very good 20 minutes early morning walk to gather my thoughts. The beach is next door to Herbert Beach, which is popular...for the locals. The beach is combed every morning very early by a member of the staff and the sands on the beach is silver and idyllic, this is also ideal for a nice swim. Thursday nights here is also very vibrant with a live local band, BBQ, food and drinks for the staying staff where they join up with the locals to let their hair dawn. Very good for a visit if you are on the island.More

This old plantation great house is well kept, the restaurant area is like walking into another era. Staff is polite, and know their business well. The food is gourmet, delicious, well presented and the chef creations are great. Prices are close to what other hotels...charge, maybe a little more considering the portions, but the quality is great!More

My family ate at the Thursday night BBQ and were not impressed. There was no value for the food offered. The sides, like potato salad sat in the heat long before they were eaten. There was also nothing unique to make a basic BBQ worth...the hefty price tag. I suggest looking elsewhere.More

Nisbet Plantation knows how to take care of guests. That seems like a simple statement but they do it so well and it seems to happen naturally. They set the tone having quality people meet you at the airport, on the tax ride and on...the water taxi - it's well coordinated. The staff know you by name and they share information - so they can anticipate your needs. Recommendations meet expectations. Cabs arrive when they say they will arrive. If something isn't right, then there are personnel that will spring into action and make it right. And the staff does all of this with a smile. We wanted to relax on the beach - great spot here with plenty of waterfront. We wanted to fish - box breakfasts arrived and taxis appeared at the appointed time. Breakfast at Coconuts was fantastic - the mango is the best we have ever had, and who doesn't like French press coffee. Lunch was very good and right on the beach. Dinners in the great house exceeded expectations - executive chef Tony clearly loves what he does. We went beyond fish and were not disappointed. Went back to fish and loved the ceviche and curry dishes. The salads are fresh. The wine list is good and reasonably priced. The waitstaff and bartenders are simply great. I was concerned the musical entertainment would be dated and low quality but instead it was downright excellent, varied and played to the mood of the crowd. I sang along with new found friends and joked with Dan and Caddyshack. But the real value here is Ros as hostess and fixer. She dotes on you in a good way - recommending activities and places to venture out for meals and drinks. If you want to feel genuinely cared for, then this is the place to stay. We met people who have been returning for years - it's easy to see why.More
