Not at all what was expected in this restaurant which overlooks the courtyard of the landmark El Convento Hotel. Oddly out of place in its ancient setting the cheap plastic furniture doesn't add up to the overall look of the gorgeous old hotel. A disappointment to say the least.

This is a great place, within the El Convento Hotel, to have a bite to eat while visiting Old San Juan. There is no a/c, but there is a cool breeze that miraculously flows through. Service is excellent, without being overbearing, tapas were authentic, well-flavored and arrived quickly to these two famished travelers. Prices were a bit high for the... More

All of the tapas were pretty good. The bartender also did awesome pours of rum on the rocks. I ended up paying for it the next day via hangover!

This is a tapas bar where we were excellently served by Jean. He made recommendations about the menu and we had: Lamb shanks which were amazing Ceviche - served traditionally Calamari Cheese served in a tomato sauce with pita House Salad Flan Chocolate Tarte I loved all the tapas and look forward to going back. The flan and the chocolate... More

It's a shame the food is - well the title of my review says it all - because the setting is beautiful. I ordered the salmon tapas and it was overdone and dried out. The drinks were watered down and without much flavor. We stayed in El Convento so it would have been very convenient to eat here a few... More

We dined at El Picoteo because it was convenient for us...we were staying at El Convento. We absolutely loved the atmosphere and the service was very good, but the food fell short of our expectations. We had ordered a pitcher of red sangria and an array of tapas, but not one of them was to our liking. Not sure why... More

Stopped here for a light lunch on a hot day. The setting is gorgeous and it felt like I was transported to Spain when I walked into the courtyard. Tried the gazpacho, which was perfect - light, cool, flavorful - and the hummus, which was also tasty. Service was good, though we drained our water glasses faster than the waitress... More

After a long hot tour of San Felipe del Morro Fortress, we needed this restaurant/bar. The food was wonderful, everything we ordered was perfectly made and very shareable (tapas). Sitting in the shade with a glass of wine, eating delicious and interesting food revitalized us.

Great food and drinks, the place is lovely. You feel like you are in old san juan because the bar is in a ex convento type of arquitecture so it makes it lovely.
