So glad this restaurant is only a block away from our Airbnb! After a few days in Puerto Rico eating at several places we decided to give this place a try based on recommendations. The food is fabulous - we have ordered take out twice...already and love the pollo en criolla. The rice and beans that accompany the dish are melt in your mouth authentic and full of flavor. We also ordered an appetizer - bacalitos -- tiny slices of fried fish with accompanying sauce that hit the spot. I will say it is a tiny, crowded spot and we have not come here for sit down service; however both times we have ordered to go we have received our food very quickly, within 5-10 minutes. Lastly, this place is extremely affordable with most meals @ $12.00 with generous portions to share.More

We all know this restaurant is a great option to taste puertorican food. Two things: 1- Please play pleasant music, this is not a drink bar, is a family restaurant. 2- Train the servers to be outstanding. Visitors chose this place looking for great cuisine...and great service. You are one of the mirrors of Puerto Rico. Shine!!!!More

I visit my Island of Puerto Rico at least once a year to catch up with family. We Always stay local and eat here every time. The food is always hot, fresh and delicious. Our visit this time was very dissapointing. We were seated and...our drink order was taken. We ordered 2 pina coladas with rum. Our drinks tasted as if there was no rum in them. We then ordered our food which was delicious. No server came to us to offer water or to see if we needed further assistance. I even tried waving to a waiter bit he just ignored us. After waiting about 10 min. With empty plates before us we decided to leave. We walked up to the counter and the waitress gave us the total. I said we really wanted some water and dessert. She gave me an annoyed look and asked "well do you want your dessert now?" I said no thank well be leaving. She handed me my slip with not even a thank you. I signed it and I did not leave a tip. I know the stress everyone is under with Covid going on but I have never been so dissapointed with service and I have Never Not left a tip before because I personaly know how much waitresses rely on tips. Please try and improve on your customer service and your place will once again be Excellent.More

If I could provide 0 stars, I would. The hostess didn’t communicate the wait time. She sat a party of 16 prior to our party of 3. We kept waiting because I heard the food was amazing. After 30+ minutes of no updates or communication,...with several open tables, we finally demanded assistance. They sat us at a table that had been open the entire time we had been waiting. Once seated we were never helped. We sat watching as people rushed around, yet no one had drinks or food. We gave up and found a delightful spot around the corner with great service and wonderful food.More

This restaurant is tucked away on a side street in Old San Juan and it is truly a gem. If you’re a tourist looking for an authentic Puerto Rican experience, you’ll get it here. We stoped by for an early lunch (around noon) after three...hours of walking around in the hot sun. The greeting was not necessarily friendly, but I think we surprised them when we walked in. They were just opening. There was a bit of a language barrier. Not every server speaks English. But between the five servers and my 20 word Spanish vocabulary, we got by. We both ordered Medalla, the local beer and it was about the coldest beer I’ve ever had. Quite refreshing. Then we switched to frozen pina coladas, which were delicious. For lunch, we split four appetizers. They were all great. The staff was very helpful and gave us great selections when we asked for a recommendation. We also noticed that all of the other diners appeared to be locals. This is not a tourist spot. But the food was fantastic!More

El Jibarito is a great spot for non-touristy Puerto Rican cuisine. It’s a casual, busy place with lots of character and a mix of locals and tourists. Cocktails were great. We had grilled steak and shrimp in garlic sauce. Both excellent. Try the Sorrullitos for...an appetizer (fried corn sticks). Prices seemed reasonable. We must have been lucky because we got a table right away (around 6:30) and it was jam packed with people waiting when we left.More

We went to this restaurant based on a recommendation from our hotel. It was very busy with tables very close together. A menu of local cuisine. The service was good and quick and the food was delicious. It is easy to get to if you...are in Old San Juan. A great option if you want something different than Burger King or KFC.More
