About
Established in 2010. We are an interactive culinary environment. At our restaurant we create and interpret the culinary ideas inspired from different cultures, products, and techniques. Our always evolving menu is a result of the interaction and interchange of different experiences. An open kitchen, eclectic and without limitations. Because cooking is our passion. Historically cooking evolved through the interaction and exchange of cultures. Through this premise and advances in technology our project, Cocina Abierta, was born, designed for the sharing and development for our passion.

We had an amazing meal at Cocina Abierta. We loved that we had the choice to order the number of courses we felt like eating. My husband and I ordered different things and we shared everything. All of it was truly exceptional. Our meal at...Cocina Abierta was twice as good as the meal we had at 1919 and half the price. It was so good that it makes me inclined to come back to San Juan just to eat here. The service was also excellent.More

I took my girlfriend here because she is a vegan and they had many optionals for both of us. We ordered a bottle of Le Naturel and each did the tasting flight, her's the vegan and mine carnivore. Food was not only delicious but presentation...was beautiful as well. We were able to dine on the patio with the lights. They even put a candle and brought her out not one but two birthday desserts. It was a special treat and experience for both of us. Check them out when you are in PR.More

We ended our last night in San Juan with an eight dish sampler of Cocina Abierta's retrospective menu which basically included the best food that they've served since their inception, each as ridiculously gorgeous as the other. Best meal of my life, and definitely the...best meal in Puerto Rico.More

I had been here twice, pre-Maria hurricane, but was not impressed. At the moment, however, things are very different. They are remodelling the bulk of the space, so only the back kitchen is open, with not many tables. The menu is only 3, 4, or...5 course tastings (from about 10 choices). At $40-50 for this, it is well worth it. A few dishes were not my taste, but many would like them (cilantro: yuk!). The tuna and duck were some of the best things I've had in Puerto Rico. The service was perfect. I wasn't thrilled with having only an online menu, but I'm old school. I hope they keep these dishes available when normal times return.More

Being a hardcore meat eater I was surprised how the menu items that jumped out to me were mostly vegetarian. The way the chef prepared and put together these vegetarian dishes was amazing and delicious and no meat was needed. Our server was very friendly,...although seemed to have A LOT of tables to himself, did a great job explaining the menu and recommending different dishes. All questions that were asked about the menu he was able to answer which is usually a good sign at a restaurant. This will definitely be a staple to our trips when we are in San Juan.More

It was a rainy Thursday afternoon and I went in to Cocina Abierta by myself since I’ve always visited the restaurant with big groups. I sat down outside and Carlouis came to assist me and give me the menu. He was kind and smiling even...thought the table next to mine was extremely rude towards him. They belittled him and were very disrespectful. He said that the food was taking a bit longer but it was coming, to give it a minute. Btw the clients already had two huge full plates in front of them. He went inside and got their plate and a little later he brought my ceviche, which was delicious. The clients continued to be arrogant and impolite to the waiter. I was thinking about stepping in but he handle it very professionally and even apologize to them, when they were bad-mannered. The presumptuous clients left and didn’t even tip him. He later brought my favorite dish, which was gnocchi, divine. Had a wonderful late lunch/early dinner by myself at cocina abierta.More

We had researched restaurants before our visit and were looking forward to eating here. It did not disappoint. The dishes were not only delicious, they were artfully plated. I would recommend almost everything on this menu. The lamb wellington was sublime, as well as the...octopus and the sirloin. The desserts were great, avocado ice cream, black sesame seed ice cream, etc. were paired with cakes and key lime pie. We managed to eat here twice during out visit, and heard that Bill Clinton had visited the day after our first visit, so I am guessing this is a well known spot. We would definitely return here again!More

Their refined take on regional food is generally very, very good. Small plates like the tuna tataki and croquettas were superb, as were our cocktails - especially the Spice Run, which was a rum version of a good bourbon punch with lots of bitters. Main...courses were uneven, with the fish plates being quite bland while the jerk marinated pork and strip steaks were absolutely delicious. Service was friendly and attentive.More

I arrived and sat at the bar. It wasn't crowded when I went and the bar tender was attentive and nice. My first choice, goat pastillas wasn't available, so I asked for a recommendation. The bartender recommended the organic chicken thighs worth roasted vegetables. I...thought the balance of spices like ginger and turmeric were perfect. But Unfortunately one of the chicken thighs was a bit dry and chewy. Not bad, mind you, but not as moist and tender as the other chicken thigh. Would definitely go again to explore the menu some more.More

Yes they do and they can also prepare items specifically to your needs just tell the waiter. Their menu is changed. Book in advance as they are very popular.

I dined there with my nine and four year old. Not sure about food allergies but confident that if you disclose it the rest will accomodate.
