Excellent, high-quality food. The watermelon mojitos are a can’t-miss!! We took our four kids ages 8-12, to get a high-end Puerto Rican meal and no one was disappointed. Would highly recommend and absolutely go again!
My wife, brother-in-law and sister-in-law visited the rooftop version of Santaella, which is called Azotea, and only opens on Sundays in the evening. Our order came to well ove $400.00, and I can honestly say I was quite disappointed, given the price range (we averaged...over $100.00 per person). The tables were white plastic, with no table cloth. The menu offerings were limited, and lacked any vegan offerings (my sister-in-law is vegan). The two small bathrooms are really glorified porta-potties. I asked for three different beers on the menu, and they did not have any of them.
While the appetizers were quite good and very well prepared, and the service was acceptable, for the prices they charge, this part of the restaurant is not worth a return trip.More
My husband and I booked our reservations a bit late though able to reserved seats at the bar. BEST place to sit. Best of both worlds. The bartenders are true scientists making these fabulous looking cocktails which taste heavenly ✨ Their customer service is five...star. They served us drinks and dinner. The food was divine. Santaella could be Michelin Star. One of the best restaurants we have dined in, we are avid travelers and big foodies.More
Fantastic Restaurant with a great indoor atmosphere, awesome bartenders, and a excellent menu! This restaurant is a hidden gem in La Placita. I would have never known it was there if I didn't check truck advisor.
We had the rooftop experience at Santaella and hands down it was the best meal of our trip. The starters are huge so you only need one for 2-3 people and the entrees were expertly prepared. Can't wait to return.
Our experience was really poor because the service was extremely slow and uncared. We received our drinks and the appetizer timely, but after that, we received no more attentions until about 40 minutes later that we received our main course when we were about to...leave the place.
Food was good but honestly with the quality of the service, for that prices, we will not come over again.
I've been in the place before and this time it was really disappointing.More
One if the owners Kris Toro doesn’t really want to hear anything negative about his restaurant. He would rather have his customer get disrespected pay top money and leave! Really Kris!!
If you do complain he cancels your future reservation on Open Table. Sadly the...site allows it.
Actually he beat us to it because based on his response and reaction we would never go back.
If he is so unprofessional what can you expect from his staff. Many better restaurants with better service in San Juan area; 1919, Mario Pagan, Lucia and many others.More
The food and drinks here were delicious. It was some of the best food we had not just in puerto rico but in a long time. Recommend the filet, popcorn chicken, tuna and spicy paloma, which was actually carrying some heat unlike a lot of...similar drinks elsewhere. Certainly worth the price.More
I say hidden gem because you walk up to an unassuming building and the door opens up to a stunning restaurant. I found Santaella to be exceptional, from the meal to the cocktails to the service, everything was on point. The goat cheese quesadilla appetizer...I am pretty sure I will dream about for the rest of my days, and probably try and recreate with mediocre ability ha. We also had the escargot, caesar salad, and a garlic shrimp dish with trifungo... which was heavenly. It is pricey, but we expected that and felt like the entire experience was worth what we paid. Sit down, order a great cocktail, and just soak in the cool vibe.More
High Points: the black-clad model servers, the host who set up our fone for wifi alone instead of giving just the password, the food combinations & presentations & service, and buzz; Sancerre by the glass, great single-glass wine selections
Low Points: the noise, lack of...music
Unique Points: Baked Alaska in Puerto Rico: suggestion: change the alcohol for something w/better taste and substitute the red fruit sorbet for guava, add a layer of cake (which Baked Alaska requires) and call it Baked El Yunque to keep with your tropical and Latin-based theme!
Ambience: loud and bustling with no music
Service: deft and anticipatory, friendly and not snobby at allMore
Appetizers, cold appetizers and main dishes were excellent. However, beware of some waiters that want to impose themselves an automatic 22% gratitude of an all ready expensive dinner. There are other restaurants — that do the same quality dish in Puerto Rico— which charge $28...instead of $50 for the same exact dish.
In summary: they need to work on balancing real prices, managing greedy waiters, and dessertsMore
We made reservations prior to coming to PR for the first time to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday which was the day of the reservation on Feb 8th. We had our car valeted and walked up to the restaurant. My wife did not have her...vaccine card since it was left in Georgia but she had a valid PCR test for her and my children and I had shown her my vaccine card. We were all masked up and we were turned away at the door and had to celebrate at a Condado Vanderbilt restaurant. Meanwhile, all of the other high-end restaurants performed temperature checks and accepted our documents during our stay.More
Santaella has a great variety of very sophisticated entrees. Since we were three family couples we were able to taste the different orders. The food is served just right and well presented . If you are in San Juan you must try it. The grilled...octopus appetizer is very tender.More

I will dress Casual Elegant, the bar gets REALLY crowded after 7:30-8:00pm, so enjoy your dinning experience in a regular table. I would recommend a sample of both experiences since they have the BEST bartenders in the Island. Get there 45-60 minutes prior your reservation time, seat at the bar and talk to the bartenders on your specific tastes so they can recommend a wonderful Martini or other mixes tailor to your taste.
